How do I remove an invalid coupon code when I can't get into the cart?
I had Nier in the cart from last week with that 20% coupon and the cart sidebar is telling me to remove the code, but it won't let me into the actual cart or checkout to remove it. Clearing the cart or adding other items does nothing. |

Are we ever going to get an answer as to what the fresh hell is going on with Gridman Universe? One of Trigger's reps said on their discord that the ball is in CR's court and to yell at them about it, which I've done my fair share of. It's just so aggravating that they're squatting on the license and doing nothing, saying nothing.
Yes, I know about the HK release. I want to see it dubbed though because I loved SSSS dubbed and would love seeing that cast back. Kristen McGuire has been wanting to come back for it and it's really sad that it's just radio silence on every end. |

Apparently someone or some people are guilty of mail theft at Crunchyroll.

Just to note, if you're watching anything on Hulu that is licensed by FUNimation, Crunchyroll, or Aniplex USA, you're supporting them. FUNimation rebranded as Crunchyroll, LLC in March 2022 after acquiring Crunchyroll (Crunchyroll did not acquire FUNimation, it was the other way around). The vast majority of anime on Hulu comes from companies under the Sony Pictures TV umbrella. Aniplex USA is attached to Crunchyroll, LLC following Sony Pictures TV acquiring FUNimation in 2017 as Aniplex Japan is also involved, and they own Aniplex USA.

I've been having some seriously bad luck with scratched discs from Crunchyroll. My Vinland Saga S2 P2 disc 1 has a large amount of circular scratches all over it, to the point where it legitimately looks like a pre-owned disc. This is by far the worst "new" Blu-ray that I've received in recent years, which says a lot because nearly every release arrives with scratches to some degree.

I understand your frustration, but it's pretty nigh impossible to avoid Crunchyroll/Funimation if you're at all watching anime given the companies own most of the anime licenses in the States. You could limit yourself to Sentai, Viz, or Discotek, but that's be a sliver of the industry, and if you're at all buying physical discs, CR's prices tend to beat Amazon's.

Probably a dumb question, but have Crunchyroll switched all their slipcovers to matte style lately? Ancient Magus Bride S2 P2, Berserk Memorial, Goblin Slayer S2 are all matte texture. They don't match existing series which is annoying. Also, for that matter, why are they still including DVDs? I don't need my Ancient Magus to be twice as thick for some discs I'll never use.

They started to go Blu-ray-only around 2018 when everyone else was starting to abandon the format. They've kept the DVDs around mostly for consistency, though some series got shafted (Ex: Free! (Road to the World: The Dream is Blu-ray-only unlike everything else), Kiss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid Season 2, Strike Witches (the chibi spin-off is Blu-ray-only, everything else was combo packs, including Brave Witches)). Ironically The Ancient Magus' Bride is another that got the shaft in some way, in addition to S2 not getting a Limited Edition, The Boy from the West and the Knight of the Blue Storm OVA is Blu-ray-only, so it's already even more inconsistent.
The DVDs now have mostly been exclusive to shows that get Limited Editions, presumably to give more disc art and such to make it feel more "premium". Some shows with LEs even had the DVDs exclusive to the Limited Edition with the standard being Blu-ray-only. Some shows without LEs still got DVDs, mostly more mainstream series like Blue Lock. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/searc...1&sortby=title When they were still known as FUNimation, they originally included the DVDs in the early days of Blu-ray because stores didn't want to stock multiple versions and overestimate or underestimate demand. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/searc...leasetimestamp Quote:
It may seem strange now, but like for example, Ouran High School Host Club sold amazing on DVD in 2008-2009, but when it hit Blu-ray in 2010, it was revealed in an ANNCast it had BOMBED on Blu-ray. Combo packs made it easier to avoid those situations when Blu-ray adoption was lower. It wasn't until around 2017 Blu-ray finally overtook DVD for anime in sales. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ans...-09-20/.121593 https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/dai...y-2019/.121502 Fun fact, Ga-Rei-Zero was originally going to be 4 SKUs, a DVD Limited Edition, a DVD standard edition, a Blu-ray Limited Edition, and a Blu-ray standard edition. It became the first show to go with a combo pack, so it was just a Limited Edition combo pack, and a standard edition combo pack. Just imagine the headache for retailers if it ended up being 4 SKUs instead. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/enc...s.php?id=18075 https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/enc...s.php?id=18051 https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...-dvd/bd-combos https://fandompost.vbulletin.net/for...74-ga-rei-zero |

Probably because it costs them $0.50 to manufacture those DVDs, which they can then use to jack up the price of the item by $5-10.

The DVDs have had little affect on pricing. Their one cour DVD pricing was $59.98, then when combo packs happened in 2011, that increased to $64.98, with Limited Edition combo packs being $69.98, later $84.98 starting around 2015. When they started going Blu-ray-only in 2018, they kept the $64.98 price point, and last year increased the prices to $69.98 for standard editions, and $89.98 for Limited Editions (what a one cour show ran you with 3 $29.98 DVD singles back in the day unadjusted for inflation).
You can see that Blu-ray-only releases currently cost the same as the combo pack ones. https://store.crunchyroll.com/collec...ule=New-to-Old Also, they now charge the same price for a release regardless of if it has a dub or not. Sub-only combo packs were $49.98, but in 2021 they increased the price of those to what the dubbed releases were. Last edited by BigOnAnime; 11-01-2024 at 05:50 PM. |
