I just watched it, it had been a while. I had an absolute blast. However, my house curve may have helped in the bass department.

@RobertR
I agree, the lack of dynamics just kills the experience for me.

Video bitrates never exceeded 56 mbps from the few random spot checks that I did. The video quality did not particularly impress me on my calibrated 85" Bravia 9 TV, which is why I checked the video bitrates in the first place. I expected better than what I saw.

The audio for me on my 5.1.4 system was definitely underwhelming. I had to raise my usual volume setting +6 db for the sound to begin to have any life to it. Another neutered Atmouse presentation.

I like the steelbook case, anyway. Had I the chance to preview this 4K disc in advance I would not have purchased it. I do not feel that there was much of an upgrade here to justify the price that I paid.

Maybe if I revisit my blu-ray copy I will appreciate this 4K disc more, but I very much doubt it.

I just had to reply to this....weird ass post. Some of you on this forum take movie watching to seriously and this post just proves it. I am sorry but the who 4K presentation of this movie along with the audio is mind blowing, full stop. A lot of you literally cannot enjoy anything, you have to find fault in anything and everything from the imperfections of the sleeves to the cover art to the spine of the steelbooks to the imperfection of everything to do with the video to the audio to everything. It is why i cannot read most of the posts here in the forums, it is just to much.

Saying "it doesn't look like what I expected it to" and then blaming the bitrate alone is a strangely 1999 way of doing things.

Actually, I seldom complain about how any of my discs look or sound; if you knew any of my post history, you would realize that. I also rarely make such comments more than once or twice. I have only posted six times in this thread and I gave my opinion about the presentation twice counting this post.

I am glad that some of you enjoyed this 4K disc more than I did. I thought the video quality was mediocre and the audio was disappointing. I like the movie itself a great deal. I like the steelbook case, too.

I only checked the video bitrate because I was unimpressed by what I was seeing, which is something that I only do infrequently, either when I am very pleased or when I am not.

I never actually blamed the bitrate for my lack of enthusiasm; I simply observed that it never climbed above 56 Mbps during my random spot checks.

I look forward to reading your review of this 4K disc; have you done so yet?

Oh, it just seemed like you were attributing cause and effect.

I am wary of assigning a technical cause to my reactions as I lack that expertise, but I know what I like, and what I do not, and everything in between.

I plan to revisit the blu-ray soon to do my own compare and contrast with the 4K disc. Maybe that will improve my opinion of one or the other?

While I agree with you about the audio, I didn't find the video disappointing. The cinematography of this film was never going to wow anyone. I'm happy with the look of it, and muxing solved the audio issue for me.

I was hoping to see a demonstrable improvement over the blu-ray, and maybe I yet will when I do my comparison, but the audio was really where I was disappointed.

For these prices, $40+, I expect both video and audio to impress me. They were lazy on the extras, too, which is a lesser matter, but still for these prices c'mon.

I think they dropped the ball big time on the audio. This new mix should have easily blown away all previous efforts in every respect. Just no excuse for compressing the dynamics and nerfing the bass. And let's not forget the failure to put the upper deck footsteps in the heights.

I've never seen the film, so I wonder how the audio will come off to me w/ my audio setup.

If it's your first time (watching the movie, that is), you should enjoy it just fine. You'd only find it lacking if you were familiar with the old DVD.
