T2 Future War scenes are in 2029 and Connor is clearly a lot older than he was portrayed in T:S (but we now know how he got that facial scar he has in T2!) They also have laser firing weapons.

So, they could set the next one just before 2029 and the last one shortly after to wrap things up; following usual movie cycles we wouldn't see the next one till 2011/2012 and the final installment 2013/2014

I hope they make the rest, I enjoyed T:S, it was fine. It did have a tough time being a Terminator movie but not set "now" so it was always going to look out of place compared to the others.

I was blown away by the Arnie sequence; one of the best effects I've seen

Terminator Salvation was highly improved movie and all of my friends had watched it already. They enjoyed their spare time watching that movie.

IMO each time they came out with another movie that followed the formula of the first, it diminished the impact of the original while Terminator Salvation brought relevance back to the first.

Yeah, T3 was REALLY stretching suspension of disbelief. They send one, we send one, etc.

Although, I have to say, one of the reasons I still like T3 is the ending. Completely took me by surprise and I loved that they finally had the b@lls to have J-Day happen.

Yeah, Kate Connor could have completely had the T-850 stop Judgment Day. Pretty much, if they kept delaying it over and over again, Skynet could have been like; "Aw, f*** it!"

i love the ending of T3
especially when arnold says "i'm back"
corny, yet awesome to me

actually the last 40minutes to an hour is really good imo
it just takes a while to get going

I was ready to walk out of the theater in the beginning. The part where the girl terminator increases her bust size, the part with Arnold putting on the flamoyant star shaped sunglasses - I was thinking we'd keep seeing this stuff throughout the movie - luckily, that was it for cheap laughs.

I totally agree, as the movie when on it got better - the last hour was great.

So, what do you guys think - are we going to ever get to finish this series. Will the studio support a sequel?

I looked at box office mojo and as of Friday, T4 hadn't even passed the $100 Million mark. In fact, it made only $10,000 more than Star Trek (again, this isn't a Star Trek vs. Terminator comment, just using it as a reference since ST came out 2 weeks before T4.)

Even though T4 isn't the story I was hoping for - I'd still like to see this franchise finished, the story completed.

This would be a cr@ppy way to leave the series. Hope it's not finished.

But I personally don't think a 115-120 Million dollar run is going to be enough for the studios to push forward.

Don't know. I sure hope so.

We have to remember that T2 and T3 had greater than 60% of it's box office over seas. If that holds true for T4 then it could bring in close to $300 million world wide. Add to that home video sales which should net another $50-$100 million.

The TV deal is 12% of it's domestic gross so it should be just over $12 million more there. Then there's also Pay TV (and HBO). It could gross close to $400 million when all is said and done. They may decide to move forward.

They must do a better job marketing if they do decide to follow through

It is going to cross 105mil after todays receipts are in

i think with overseas, home video, and tv rights (which is worth whatever 10-20% of its final gross turns out to be, or something like that) it will squeek out a profit or break even.

If the sequel gets made (Which i really want it too) it will be a much smaller budget
probably closer to 100 or 120 million

maybe, but in 3 years time (or however long it takes to get out if it does) ticket prices will have gone up a good bit at most locations, so making back a 160 million budget would be easier, probably along the lines of making back a 130-140million budget today

Terminator Salvation could have made so much more profit if it had been released in a less crowded month. I agreed the maximum amount this movie will sum up is over $200 including the international take. Last time I checked the box office numbers it is was ranked #6. But I was really hoping this movie to be successful so they can justify another sequel. Maybe the next movie their cost budget will be lower so they can squeeze more profit in. But if a sequel does get made, I don't see how they can budget it under $150 million with the rising production cost.

They won't be able to go back and film the effects like they did this time in the traditional manner. It's too expensive. They may also need to cut loose Christian Bale as I imagine his salary is quite high.

It would need to make $500 million or greater to actually turn a profit for WB. Like I said above, it should hit $400 million. It would've easily made $500 million after all is said and done if they would've marketed it better and released it later in the summer.

The reason they would do a sequel is if they think they could get everything together and make a profit (enough to make back the losses from this film).

I'm not sure what his fee is. I would imagine it was huge after Dark Knight, but the gross of this film will hurt his demand a bit (he's not shown he can open a non Batman movie). Maybe he'll take it personal and take a reduced fee with a backend deal and they'll make a hell of a sequel.

that's what i was thinking

as for release date, like i said in that other thread where you posted the story about the front loaded may, terminator would have done much better to be released at the time TDK was released last year, mid-july, more specifically July 24th, there is nearly no competition for it around there, all the may movies will be insignificant by then, transformers will have been out for a month and already have made the majority of its box office, and harry potter would have been out for a week or so. had it came out there i think it would have made a much better take

as far as bale's fee, i doubt its incredibly high
he doesn't strike me as a $20million club level actor
i mean he may have got that for TDK and maybe this, but considering he has made so many small budget films, i'm sure he knows how to take a smaller pay check, so i doubt his fee would be difficult to overcome.

i also think ditching bale would be a huge mistake, yet another John Connor recast

They wouldn't put it within a few weeks of Potter because both are Warner Brothers releases. But I agree later in the Summer and the movie would be +$50million at least in the first two weeks. Maybe move Potter a week earlier and put T4 on July 24 like you said. But they screwed up. And WB moved T4 to Memorial Weekend after all the other May releases were set.

yea i totally spaced on the fact that Potter is a WB film

i doubt potter would be moved up though, seeing as they are expecting Transformers to be such a juggernaut, they'd probably want that to be out about 3 weeks at least before they put out their big gun, it would probably stay put and terminator close out july
and like you said it would have probably easily opened to much more money than it did on Memorial Day

While Transformers is a huge movie, internationally, Potter will best TF2. You're right they're both set up with perfect dates.
