The UHE transfer is a travesty in 2D, but it really does seem like it was tailor made with a 3D release in mind. It works exceptionally well, and many of the UHE transfer's flaws are masked in 3D (which is often the case with 3D conversions where the grain is scrubbed and a generous amount of DNR is lathered on).

I'll still watch the 2008 release for my 2D viewing, and it's still the best Blu-ray release of the film to date, but the 3D conversion is a heck of a lot of fun. If you're a fan of the film and a fan of 3D at home, you shouldn't hesitate on picking this up (especially at the very reasonable $14.99 release week pricing). Just make sure you have the 2008 release as well.
The night sequence at the end and the jungle base raid come to mind as some of my favorite 3d moments. So much debris and sparks flying out of the screen lol

I was really impressed with the conversion too and while the limits of the JVC conversion method really showed alot, it's tremendously encouraging how much they amped it up and I hope that strong sales mean we get to see the tech's full potential

Easily the best Fox home conversion period.

Said screw it, couldn't hold off haha, if someone bought me this for Christmas looks like I'll be exchanging..

Another great direct to disc conversion by fox. I really enjoyed this, watched it on the projector. Very clean conversion, lots of layers, couple stretch errors but overall excellent work.

AAHHHHHNNAAALLD!

Hopefully you won't get it again for Christmas JSmith82, but a different 3D movie instead.

Good point about sales. If it sells well enough, they will hopefully put more time into the conversions to give us stronger 3D. What is here is acceptable and looks better sitting farther back than usual.

Most of the DNR smoothing isn't as obvious as certain shots with Carl Weathers' face, smoothed out to the point of being blurry at times to reduce the grain. I agree, they should just leave the original grain as is, as they did with GI Joe Retaliation's awesome 3D conversion.

When Billy Sole stands off, take his knife and cuts his chest from shoulder across - there is a shot of him standing on the downed tree looking into the jungle, the camera was behind him. Definitely the strongest 3d shot for me in the movie, they did a fantastic job converting that image.

Like many others have mentioned, I really enjoyed the 3D aspect of this release. Very well done.

Lol ahhhh hearing that in Arnold's voice will never get old lmao

If I find I Robot and Jumper for cheap, is it still worth it adding those to my 3d collection? I still have never seen Jumper and have been dying too

that and the long shot of seeing him standing on the bridge. I thought the hyper stereo in that image was awesome!

Definitely, both are cool films. i,Robot I enjoyed more than Jumper but that's just my own taste in movies. As for the 3d quality, if you were to watch robot->jumper->predator it feels pretty obvious that the conversion team has settled in and are learning from previous mistakes, each film seems to have just a bit more depth and detail with less error.

IMO, all 3 films are good conversions and at the price a no brainer addition, that being said I feel like I stood alone with i,Robot around here LOL, argued (defended) that films conversion for quite a while . So take my opinion for what you will, not many others agreed with it at that time LOL

edit*: we watched Jingle all the Way last night with my son, I've been walking around the house yelling "Jaaaahhhmiiieee" in AHHHNAALDS voice, I think my wife is over it hahaha

Ahh thanks for this. Any significant difference? From FoxConnect to the UK version?

Just to add my tuppenceworth...I know many people like a balanced argument so here's my thoughts...yep theres plenty of smoothing and DNR but it still looks good.

AS for the 3d....well its nothing better than average....no real pop and no real depth...I watched it this morning on an epson 3d tw8100 and a 108 inch screen so I feel I comment on the immersiveness...it's a decent / relatively flat conversion, so please dont rush out and buy it....the depth is nothing more than decent and indeed forgetetable Please remember this was converted by an automated tool, unlike the JP and Titanic conversions, which were subject of laborious months of effort ...and it shows

I have come to the conclusion that some people are saying things have great depth when in fact we are being sold short by modest / poor conversions..and ultimately many are starting to view conversions as acceptable in place of actual proper native 3d....this seems to be the nature of the beast nowadays...some people on here are essentially trying to present the Emperors new clothes as acceptable when in fact we should be calling it and saying it is sub standard

If you frequently look at JVC 3D conversions it becomes easy to forget the thrill of what a good native-3D feature can consciously evoke. Just looked briefly at "The Great Gatsby" 3D checking out a question for another member and a rush of the 50s kind of Golden-Era-3D overwhelmed my senses.

excellent reference point PaulH...I have Gatsby but have not watched it...so on your advice I stuck it on and it looks brilliant As you say once compared to a JVC conversion there is no defence

I don't know to be perfectly honest with you. I think (but don't quote me on this) that the bust is probably the same as the US version and suspect that the only difference may be the actual blu-ray discs. (i.e. UK version with UK labels and possibly region coded).

I guess it all depends on if you're buying it for the actual movie, or for the collector's head. I managed to get an order it at FoxConnect. Had I not been able to do that, I would have gone with the UK set. In best case the movies play fine, in worst case, you may have to buy a US replacement disc.

I personally think the great gasby, was a huge disappointment 3d wise, very little depth in most scenes, not as good as Pacific rim, or jurassic park.which or both conversions.thought predator 3d was pretty good for a low budget conversion.

I must have watched a different Gatsby.

I think it is perhaps the best 3D presentation of any non action, sci-ft, etc to date.

Default stick around

Picked this up the first day at Bestbuy, and yes, it was on the bottom of the island rack and not very easy to find. Can't wait to watch since a majority of your reviews are positive. My friend has a new Samsung 60" 3D that we will watch hopefully watch it on this week. He grabbed the movie this weekend. Too bad now I have an extra dvd with bonus features - the 2 disc special edition Predator with the paper case is too pretty for me to sell.

Yeah the bust looks amazing on this. Mostly want it for that. If the bluray is region locked no biggie since I can just buy a US disc version.

Thanks for the input
