Quote:
Kevin Sumlin, the hottest commodity in the college coaching world this fall, has recommitted to stay as the head coach at Texas A&M, sources told CBSSports.com on Saturday.

Later in the day Saturday, the school announced that it has reached an agreement in principle with Sumlin on a new six-year contract, AD Eric Hyman said.

The 49-year-old Sumlin, who in 2012 led Texas A&M to its first top-5 finish in 56 seasons, is 19-5 in his two seasons with the Aggies. In his time at A&M, Sumlin helped groom Johnny Manziel into a Heisman Trophy winner last year and beat No. 1 Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Before Sumlin's arrival in College Station, the Aggies hadn't finished in the top 10 in 18 years.

Combining his time running the University of Houston program, Sumlin is 54-22 in six seasons as a head coach. In 2011, he led the Cougars to a school-record 12 wins. Last winter, Sumlin turned down opportunities for substantially more money from the NFL to remain at A&M.

Sumlin was considered to be the top target for Southern California in the wake of the Trojans firing coach Lane Kiffin earlier in the fall, according to sources.
Smart choice to stay with the Aggies.

Never a doubt. A&M is Sumlin's best possible place to be. He's raking in great recruiting classes there and the university has almost infinite resources for it's football program. Supposedly the Aggies stadium will seat 107k+ soon.

Very nice win by the Canes yesterday in national TV. 9-3 and the team has improved every year under Coach Golden. We have a monster recruiting class coming in and the dark clouds over our heads are gone. We should be heading to a nice bowl game as well.

BTW, word is that we are leading for Johnny Dixon who is expected to make an announcement 12/8 (he has an official visit that weekend with us).

As high as the recruiting classes are always ranked, TA&M isn't that good. The current team, IMO, is Manziel built, not Sumlin built.

I half expected him to bolt before facing the SEC Manziel-less.

With how OSU played, anyone think that regardless of today's outcome Auburn and Alabama both get ranked ahead of OSU?

*EDIT* Well, a 2 loss Auburn team would be tough, so maybe only if Auburn wins.

Even if Auburn loses, they should be ranked higher than Ohio State. I doubt Ohio State could be within 17 if they played. Gutsy decision by Hoke, but terrible play call.

Yeah that play was awful. Should have gave him a run pass option on that play.

Auburn's really impressive. I didn't expect them to be doing this to Alabama at this stage of the game. Having their way tonight.

No, I doubt that would happen. Auburn might be somewhat close, but I doubt they'd be ranked ahead of OSU even if they beat Bama. And OSU will get a boost in SOS as they have to play Michigan St. for the Big-Ten title.
