Any chance you'd ask him to create slipcover versions, too?

"Work In Progress" I had this idea in mind for a The Collector/The Collection Collection because both posters could merge together. I tried once and it didnt work but now i'm trying more. I don't know what to choose, the sepia or full color. Tell me what you think

I felt able to make the change to the "Kelly's Heroes" TT because I noticed a poster that used red, white and black (instead of the "rainbow" colors used on the US poster)...and through the color replacement tool I was able to make the switch.

Incidentally I was ablr to locate a higher resolution Titlecard from a different poster for DD, but that was in yellow so I switched the spine TT to yellow.

Working the British Quad for "The Dirty Dozen" was a big challenge which I recounted over at EFX.
F***ing BADASS! Only thing I'd have WB do is have a re-release but 2-Disc. The Dirty Dozen as 4K AVC on the disc with lossless original DTS-HD MA, same extras but a few new ones. Even the second disc be BD25 with the first TV movie.

Kelly's Heroes

Force 10 From Navarone

The collection so far:

I finally learned about creating paths for text when it came time to do the back synoposis for "Kelly's Heroes" and then measures to alleviate what are referred to as text "rivers". The "Kelly's Heroes" custom also had me using the color replacement tool for the first time when it was impressed on me to change the TT colors from their original rainbow poster colors.

Why not have the full year of release between the spine image and the Blu-ray logo? For the OO7 and the World War II line? I'd love to see a custom The Damn Busters cover from you and also Twelve O'Clock High. The Train especially with THIS poster, in high resolution too.

Crap compression though.

I would but I am pretty maxed out money wise on each of these covers, don't wanna mention the price but I will say it's enough for Nissen to buy a new blu-ray for every one of these he does for me And he is already doing 2 versions of each cover because I have him doing a custom 14mm spine versions that has a completly customized spine for each one just for myself and then the ones I am having him share with everyone here.

Ooof! I hear you, bud. Maybe if/when you have him do "Hellboy," I'll chip in to get it converted to slipcover size.

Please forgive a newbie when it comes to custom covers BUT I am looking for purchase custom cover art for about 10-15 blurays. Does anyone sell it? I want to replace my digibook blurays with custom art to put in a traditional blue case. Thanks, Iamspartacus.

While selling custom covers is illegal, it is ok to commision someone to make one specifically for you, otherwise if your just looking in general, browse through this thread, and if you see a cover you like, just PM the artist. Otherwise join a cover site. Usually like at euphoricfx.org it only takes 5 posts (comments, uploads etc) to open your access to 10 downloads a day.

I will gladly have him do a slipcover for Hellboy. I would probally want it for my own collection anyways. I have 11 of the first 12 Reel Heroes blu-ray on there way to me right now and I will probally end up keeping the slips for them even though I really dont like slipcovers :lol

I have Nissen doing so many different cover collections (both blu-ray and dvd) for me that i wouldn't be surprised if he forgot half of them

It certainly is a grey market area but a user on here does offer artwok for sale so it's available. I personally use to buy covers from a guy at $2 a pop and did so for 10+ years and then all of a sudden he decided to rip me of of $75 so I decided it was easier to just buy my own printer from wal-mart and some ink and do it myself. Ink isn't cheap but it's worth it to me.

There is NO gray area...selling custom covers is illegal if you use ANY item that is copyrighted by the studio.

However, it is OK to pay for the EFFORT and TIME that custom artists put into their creations.

When you hire a custom artist to do a commission, you are paying for their time and effort, NOT for the custom cover itself.

Yeah...I don't do any commissions but the logic that I mentioned was provided by Nissen when I considered doing them.

Work progressing on "The Dirty Dozen"

I understand everyone's comments on the TT. As I thought about it I realized that the artist that created the TT for the theatrical posters in 1967 created it as a thematic element to reflect the unkept, sloppy, unshaven, scruffy dirty dozen.
In the movie, as I'm sure you recall, Marvin's character bars them all from shaving and keeping up with even basic hygiene. I am guessing that the artist came up with the notion of the "sloppy" background as a response to this element to the movie.
I'll think it over some more.
In the meantime I assembled a few elements and repositioned others. Having those images at the top was creating an issue making everything fit so I moved them down the side.

This is likely my next movie in the growing collection. I have a 3000x2254 pixel resolution poster for "The Train"

Looks awesome for The Dirty Dozen! Though it's VC-1 at 17.67Mbps. Glad you took some of my random idea for it. Especially for the year on the spine and the smaller poster for the TV sequel. Also it's NR and Region ABC. I prefer your cover far more compared to WBs one for it. What about some very small 1.78:1 screenshots where those three are? Not to the left of the back, those could be for The Next Mission
Awesome for The Train! Looks more of a UK one sheet compared to a USA one. Impossibly awesome. But what about the placement for it on the front?
Are there any specific cut-off dates for the World War II collection? Meaning which decades it falls under. Maybe 1940s to 1980s? Saving Private Ryan wouldn't probably fall into it. If you have a list for them I'd like to look at it. Agreed on The Damn Busters needs to be on Blu-ray too.

What about a small infographic about the beligerents for both sides similar to how Wikipedia has it set up for specific conflicts? Actually that could be for a small pamphlet or booklet.

EDIT: Any plans for a World War I, Napoleonic War, Vietnam, Korean, Civil War Collection?

Hey guys I have a friend making me a custom cover for the first time using photoshop, how does it need to be sized, saved and sent to me so that I can take it to a printing shop and print it?

Thanks for correcting some of the information for "The Dirty Dozen". A lot of the times I have to resort to IMDb or Amazon for the legal info.

I'm not sure there's enough room to include everything you mentioned. I do think the list of belligerants is more fitting for a booklet. I used to love those collectible booklets that MGM released with their DVDs and have thought about using my InDesign to put together Blu-ray booklets in that style.

I haven't thought about a date range but given the style of the customs it would probably cut off in the 1980s. The problem with the 1990s and onwards isn't because of the change in tone (which there is) but the fact that for posters they started using photos instead of hand drawn and painted posters. That tendency is precisely the reason why 90% of my customs are for pre-1990 movies.

So, I guess the range would be 1940s to 1980s though the only 1980s WWII movie that comes to mind is "The Big Red One"...that decade was dominated by Vietnam pictures.

I also made a change to the cover of "The Longest Day" per Nissen's suggestion. Here is the lineup...though obviously DD is still a WIP:

Upcoming:
  • The Train
  • The Eagle Has Landed*
  • Escape to Athena
  • Where Eagles Dare*
  • Bettle of Britain*
  • Bridge Too Far*

* = modified version of a previously completed custom

For Battle of Britain and A Bridge too Far, will you be listing the DVDs of the Collector's Edition of both and then for the third disc have the Blu-ray? It's another two early Blu-rays from MGM which they should remaster and re-release on Blu-ray.
For me, I'd have them still organized on my shelf alphabetically but if it's for this specific series, I'd have them organized by year. No need for numbering.

Battle of Britain
[Show spoiler]

A Bridge too Far
[Show spoiler]

The Great Escape
[Show spoiler]

The Inglorious Bastards (1978)
[Show spoiler]

What I'd add to the World War II collection based on your guidelines: (Spoilered code list. Asterisk "*" denotes it's on Blu-ray somewhere or eventually.)
[Show spoiler]
Code:
Across the Pacific
Air Force!
The Big Red One
The Bridge at Remagen
The Dam Busters* (Special Edition UK. For USA 12mm Viva Elite?)
The Desert Fox*
The Desert Rats
Desperate Journey
Destination Tokyo
The Devil's Brigade
Edge of Darkness (1943)
The Great Escape*
Hell in the Pacific
Hell is for Heroes
The Inglorious Bastards (1978)*
MacArthur
Northern Pursuit
Objective, Burma!
Pork Chop Hill*
SAHARA
Stalag 17
They Met in the Dark
They Were Expendable (Because I'm a Robert Montgomery fan.)
Twelve O'Clock High*
Uncertain Glory
Von Ryan's Express*

There are quite a lot made by WB in the 1940s and many other British companies.

Don't forget "The Sea Wolves". That's a personal favorite of mine so you can bet it will get the treatment. Then there is the classic Tora! Tora! Tora! which is on Blu-ray.

My native UK produced a number of great WWII movies including:
  • The Dam Busters (of course)
  • Operation Crossbow
  • The Man Who Never Was
  • Sink the Bismarck
  • The Cruel Sea
  • The Colditz Story

etc etc

Really the list is very long, I could spend years putting together custom covers for them. I'm thinking that I would prefer to tackle Blu-rays that are already released since that way the specs will be correct.
