I still don't own this movie because I'm still waiting for it to be released (Region A) without a redundant DVD.

![]() Just give it away to a friend or something. That's a terrible excuse for not wanting to own this film on blu ray. |

I'm sure there are specific examples to the contrary, but any time I have searched through catalog titles, the prices for the Blu+DVD and the Blu only for titles which were released in both ways were essentially interchangeable. If anything, the combo packs are cheaper, but I tend to ascribe those examples to age-related discounting of prices. They should be cheaper, but they rarely are.

I finally bought this, DVDs included, due to the price. I do own a few BDs that came with an unwanted redundant DVD. Sometimes it's unavoidable.
For the title in question, there is a BD movie disc, then two (2) DVD movie discs, each containing half the movie, one of which has special features. (This release is literally more DVD than blu-ray.) The Part 2 DVD technically isn't redundant, with the special features. I wouldn't want to gift both DVDs (both halves of the movie), even if I was inclined to do so ordinarily, because then I wouldn't have the special features (on the Part 2 DVD); and who would want just half the movie (the Part 1 DVD)? I just really thought by now there would be a follow up release that was more BD, less DVD, esp. for such a caliber title as this one. Last edited by TranceSends; 01-31-2017 at 08:14 AM. |

Picked this up new for around $8.50 shipped on Ebay and I honestly feel like a scumbag for cheaping out on it (saw it at BN previously for $14 for example). The picture quality and cinematography are both stunning right from the first shot of the locomotive but the film is so engrossing and emotionally devastating that I don't watch it like I watch other films. I'd probably have been just as affected had I been watching a DVD.
On second thought, if any film should be widely available on blu ray for $5 as a barebones release it's this one. I don't understand why they insist on putting it in a very sturdy box complete with two supplemental DVD's. ![]() |
