But according to this reviewer he states there is:

So is there subtitles or not? I've held off from buying this title because of what the person said in this thread.
English subtitle is on the disc if you turn it on but when you encounter the non-english speakers dialogue.....it doesn't come on automatically as it's suppose to. Unlike the original first non 4K blu ray release, it works properly without needing to turn on english subtitle.

The differences between the two Karate Kid editions are negligible as well. Was the first edition also taken from a 4K source?

Not too sure but due to 5 star picture rating and it's Sony, I say yes. Worth the upgrade only if your a fan of the movie otherwise most can do w/o new edition. I like the new higher bit rate video but that's me only

Yes. If it's a Sony Pictures film shot on 35mm in the last 3-4 years, odds are it was mastered in 4K.

Which is why The Amazing Spider-man, Battle: Los Angeles, and Angels & Demons look hardly any different.

N.B.: I've just found out that these test patterns are common to Sony Blu-rays, you just enter "SONY" (7669) on your remote to access them.
Indeed , starting as a complimentary feature since back around Spring of 2011

The models pics were shot for proper skin tones and detail (with a 20 mega-pixel camera).

Yeah I don't get any of these releases. Other then Ghostbuster and arguably Glory, all of these look the same. Why would I choose these barebones versions over the original discs, or for that matter double dip on these? And Ghostbusters new transfer could have easily been released next year with part 2 as an anniversary edition and included all its previous extras. These releases are nothing but a confusing waste of time.

And I agree with others on here, what is with the reviews on here throwing heaps of praise upon Sony? Did Sony secretly buy the site? How about they mention how Sony doesn't release catalog titles on the format that they created, instead selling them off to companies like Echo Bridge or Mill Creek who put out cheap and shoddy releases or to Twilight who charge $30 for limited usually barebones releases. Lets see them put their time and effort in releasing some of their catalog titles instead of wasting our time with these barebones re-releases.

I believe Total Recall (remake) was also mastered in 4K so that'll also be a waste of money. Thus far the only worthwhile "Mastered in 4K" disc is Ghostbusters and that's because the previous transfer was crap.

Default Angels and Demons Remastered in 4K

Why am I seeing more detail in the older release, going by the screenshots on this site? Thoughts? (I know the deal with screenshots so... but I was still surprised to see this.)

Well, the main reason to avoid Total Recall is because the superior extended cut was not included.

+1: Just think, they can hand off some new 4K transfers to TT and then TT can charge $60-$70 a title.

Is Mastered in 4K on Bluray the DVD equivalent of "superbit" today???

Superbit was a farce with barely any improvement. Most DVD transfers where hitting 6-8mbps just before bluray came on scene in 2006-2007.

Sure, before that, most standard DVD titles where lucky to see 4mbps, where as "superbit" was 6 or better.

I'll wait for the 120GB 4K-Ultrablu disc before upgrading to 4K transferred movie titles.

The Amazing Spider-Man does look different, but only a little bit. The standard blu-ray looks really soft, while the 4K mastered one has better sharpness and thus looks normal.

Same thing with Total Recall. Original looked really soft. A shame about the Extended Cut.

No they don't.. Get your TV calibrated, or your eyes checked if you think either of those were "really soft". There's barely any difference between the 4K and the standard release of Amazing Spider-man.

Doesn't matter because the older release has a seamless branching issue causing some players (particularly Sony players) to experience audio dropouts.
