I think I'll stop at the BB tomorrow to see if I can grab one, it's right next to Costco I have to visit anyway. Expecting to be disappointed like usual but worth a shot.
The finally shipped out my copy of The Thing also, but they charged me twice and I had to call and get that sorted out also. It makes me reluctant to do business with them in the future.

I wish you luck... It seems like stores aren't keeping these two films in stock for very long.

Yeah I stopped by BB today, big shock - they didn't have any copies or even a place for it. Now the DD code expired so I think I'll just wait until next year on this one, got enough to watch anyway.

So, I called them last night about them double charging for the thing and they claim they will have it fixed in 24-48 hours. Now DD double charged me for Carrie. It's like WTF? They shipped Carrie out like two days ago... How the **** do they end up charging me for it again???

To make matters worse, these people can barely speak English and that makes the communication even worse! I'll never buy from these people again.

Well, I guess "DD" now stands for "Double Dippers". Thanks for the warning.

I've always been tempted to open an account at Deep Discount but I think I'll just forget about these guys. Their discounts aren't that deep and everything seems to always be on backorder. I don't need the aggravation.

Back in the day the discounts were usually the best you could get on just about anything, but the service was terrible and it took forever for items to arrive.

They changed ownership, and the new owners ditched the discounts and kept the bad service.

Did anyone else notice the stuttering on a couple of the slow motion shots, like the slow pull out of Carrie's mother after she dies and when Amy Irving discovers the rope before the bucket falls? I don't remember seeing that on past versions.

I remember when they first opened and they had the best price for every DVD...and the shipping was incredibly fast. The good ole days...

Yes, had the same experience when I started collecting DVDs ages ago. When I first started ordering from them, service was great and then couple of years in it was horrendous. A couple of orders after that, I hit my breaking point and stopped ordering from them.

I wish I had known that the service was so bad. It took 20 minutes to get through this call. Long waiting times and I still think the problem has not been corrected.

Anyway, they're telling me that the problem is they keep checking for authorization or whatever. They say they will have it fixed in 24 hrs. I'm not sold on that though. I have a feeling I will be calling back again.

Didn't notice any stuttering anywhere, will give those scenes another look see.

I noticed it on the pull out of Carrie's mother. I don't remember it when Amy Irving discovers the rope.

I did notice stuttering in a couple scenes now that you mention it, and it took me out of things for just a moment. I also wondered if this happened on the previous disc. Was it intended to be that way for effect, or is it an error?

Just double checked, you're absolutely right: there's a good helping of vertical jitter on most of the slow motion shots, but that tells its own story: the camera's being overcranked, so whatever slight registration issues that camera body had at 24fps are being magnified in slow-mo. Perhaps it was digitally stabilised on previous versions, perhaps it was always there and folks have done forgot it, but in any case it looks entirely like a film-related artefact to me which is why it didn't even register the first time around, and it's not a problem going forward IMO.

Being desperate, I was able to order The Thing and Carrie, (albeit in two separate transactions) from DD.

Now, I look on BBY's site and see that BOTH are FINALLY available in-store 5 miles away from me.

Wish I could cancel my orders with DD but The Thing has already shipped.

I hate myself now.

I figured it was something along those lines since it only happens during the slow-mo shots. Does anyone have the MGM disc to compare those two shots?

I see where you're coming from. These seem easier to get on ebay now also.

Oh well.

I noticed it quite a lot in the second half and it was kinda painful to my eyes.
