I heard all your trophies are saved on some online server or something? I would be soooo angry if this happened to me.

Yes all your trophies are saved online. I loaded my profile on my brothers PS3 and they were all there. No worries about that, but your saves are not.

You can send it to Sony now and get it fixed. A lot cheaper than getting the Slim, IMO.

I don't know about that. My friend's 60 GB died early last week and Sony said it'd cost $200 to fix. My friend went ahead and bout a new slim instead. I think he made the right call. Regardless, I am afraid mine will get this. Any way to help make sure it doesn't?

That's why you should save your saved data on your games on like a USB drive or like me I save my PS3 and PS2 saved data on my PSP and then if anything happens I just transfer it over without a problem.

That's weird should be $150 but anyways just keep it in an area with no dust, plenty of space for the PS3 to breathe, don't have it in an enclosed area, and just take good care of it.

Good to know. Only problem I have is a little dust. I try to dust it twice a week. Otherwise, it is sitting on top of a dresser, giving it plenty of room to breathe. Thanks for the info, though.

But I will say this though they may still not be enough but will help out to keep your 60GB alive longer then not taking care of it. But dust is bad if it gets into the fans so clean at least once a week if dust is a problem for you

As already said, sending it to Sony will wipe the HDD, unless you backed it up before it YLoD'd. if you dont want your HDD erased you can try having someone fix it(i believe someone on Ebay fixes them, and also can find people on craigs list) or try fixing it yourself. its not impossible, i mananged to fix mine myself on trying it for my very first time. Dont wanna have to go through it again so i went and got my self a quad intercooler(found out 60Gb models dont have a top fan). It has its own AC plug so it doesnt run of the PS3 itself. PS3 has been cool as ice ever since...

Oh hellz no! I would freak out! I try to keep it clean and it has lots of room to breathe.. My PS3 and my Onkyo receiver can heat up the whole room Still, it should be a fairly small percentage of 60gig PS3 owners that experience YLOD?

Funny; last time I had a hardware failure, it took me $150 for a repair from Sony. If you'd like to get a Slim, feel free to do so. I'm not stopping you.

I to would like to know the percentage of YLOD for the 60gigs. im sure its small. the internet can make it seem bigger than it really is since people post about it all the time.

I know people with 60gigs from 2006 that run just fine.

Does anyone know if all of my pictures and music will still be on my hard drive when I get it back ?(if I send it in)

Also there is a game still in the system.
I went with a PS3 Slim, when my 20gb PS3 died this weekend as well. If you need the disc, just take the PS3 apart, its really easy to get to the BD drive and take out the disc..

What is it exactly that kills these systems, is it the heat?

Lucky for me i have a store in new york that fixes PS3's for the same price sony does. if mine ever breaks (knock on wood) i can just take it there and get it back the next day.

Hi,

I just got the YLOD on Friday morning.

Lucky me there's no disc in there.

Anyhow... I bought my 60Gb in Nov 06 and got a 3 year warranty that would end next month.

Will be sending it in for repair come tuesday.

Very hard to be without it. I miss it terribly.
