Hey BigAl,

What x-over settings do you use on your S10.3 sub? I used to have it set to bypass the x-over settings and let the receiver handle it ("A" setting). Yesterday I spent some time playing with it and tried setting it to the "B" setting and adjusting the x-over manually. I think it sounds pretty tight now, though not as tight as when the receiver was doing the work. It sounds slightly "boomier" and not as crisp. I tried adjusting both the phase and x-over but I'm still not sure I've got it completely perfect.

Well I had it just the total opposite as you before lol I had set the X-over manually at 80hz while phase was at 0, now I set my sub to bypass and let the receiver do the work, I have all my front stage at 60hz and surrounds at 80hz and it sound quite amazing.

What do you have you Receiver X-Over adjusted to right now? Make sure there is no overlap in the frequency of your front and sub, phase is kind of hard for me to tell you what you should be adjusting it to because of room dynamics but honestly I would recommend you go to the bypass setting and let the receiver do the work.

Have you read the sticky from Big Daddy?

Unfortunately, my receiver won't let me divide up the speakers for x-over settings. It's all or nothing. With the bypass set I was running everything at 80. I found that when I switched, the phase is set to the 3 o'clock position and the x-over is set to around 70-75 to give me the best sound. The bass is heavier and fuller, but not as tight as it was with the bypass on. I'll check out Big Daddy's sticky again. Thanks for the reminder!

So my understanding is that you r speaker X-over are still set to 80 hz and your sub at 75hz that is about right though i would recommend 80hz on the sub as well.

Make sure you adjust the phase where you get the best output from the main listening position.

Energy rc -30 are my surrounds, and a sub is ESW-V10.
Lij, my front speakers are about 7-8 inches from the wall, I can't give them more space now, but anyway I love the sound. I see you also have a nice setup, some pics would be nice

Thanks guys. Going from the trashy JBL HTiB I was using for 4 or 5 years, it has been a whole new experience!
I have had them for almost 8+ months now, and they can handle anything I throw at them.

Still thinking I will replace the 2 front's with CF-30's or 50's this year...and like callas01 suggested, I may look at a Marantz /Denon receiver as well. The Sony is a great easy-to-use receiver, and the sound is great...but I'm sure like the rest of the people here, we always look for new things to improve our setups

You could go 7.1 in that case, and you could keep the C-200s pulling all your surround dutys, I think I would get the 50s if the budget allows. You should post pics in your gallery.

Does the CC10 sound out of place with the C-200s, I have heard they sound a lot different, brighter and tinny?

Marantz, Denon, and Sony ES are all options to keep in mind when you upgrade. Be sure to listen to them all.

The new connoisseur serie does sound tinier mostly I think because of their higher frequency response and I also wonder how it blends with the C-200 but upgrading the front sound stage with CF-30 or 50 would make it a really nice 7.1 setup.

I find it actually blends quite well...I had the C-C50 and it was woefully underpowered, in my opinion...I find the CC10 maybe a bit brighter, but also more precise. For instance, when watching Blade Runner I notice tiny little things from the center now, such as when Deckard enters Bryant's office and the venetian blind rattles. Before it barely registered, but now I find I can hear it quite clearly...And some speech when doing the flyby's in the spinners. Just one of those minor things that adds to the immersion factor.
Unfortunately, my current setup is in a smaller room, so I am not sure if I have the space for a 7.1 at the current time

What.s great about you telling us about you r experience here is, it truly confirms our assumption on the new line of conoisseur and what they really were design for, Home Theater they are a noticeably brighter have higher frequency response but provides great detail in sound. They still can hold their own with music even if the old c-series seem to perform better in that department I think the new line perform better in HT setup but i would have to try and see for myself. I love their look

All in all I still prefer them over Polk for music as they have a better balance across the whole range of frequencies and I'm sure they outperform them in ht department as well .

Thanks for your input.

Got my A2-300 today . This thing is huge!! Hooked it up and only had a chance to try it out for a bit. I did however have a few questions. Where exactly do I hook it up to on the back of the sub? Where do I set my HZ and Phase settings? I understand (as far as HZ and phase settings go), I will have to fiddle with it until I get it right. But having no previous experience with these settings I would like to have a base setting.

Hi All,

I just wanted to be another added to list of Energy owners.

I was on a limited budget (birthday/Christmas gift), so I have paired Energy Take 5's ($150 from newegg), with the matching 8" sub ($100 from costco), and a Pioneer 819 ($225 w/ the help of a friend ;-) ). I've been watching movies on this set up for about a month now and it has not failed to impress. It doesn't knock my socks off, but HD audio w/ these speakers is a pleasure to behold.

Couldn't be happier.

Ok first of the sub adjustment as I mentioned in previous post not long ago you can read the sticky by big Daddy.

To begin with not sure if the ED has a bypass switch.

If it has a bypass switch then set it to bypass, if not put the Frequency (hz)
all the way to the max.

From sub out on receiver plug in the white input, the red input would work too.

Now go to your receiver speakers settings and set all your speakers to small with X-Over at 80hz (rule of thumb 10 to 15hz above the minimum frequency response of your speakers) if this already done then adjust the sub volme to about 50 to 60% of its max and try to find the right subwoofer placement in the room basically where it will sound the most even from the main seating position not to boomy not to tiny sounding.

Best way to achieve this is to put the sub in the main seating position while listening to music and then you crawl around the room to find out where the sweet spot is. I know you have to work with a beast but it'll be worth the time and effort.

That will be a good starting point then we can help you finetune it.

The CC10 is surprisingly good with music...if a bit "treble-y". Course, I do listen to my music direct off my PC via digital coax, itunes and onboard audio, so that could affect it as well. I was able to try a 60gb PS3 and my Dark Side of the Moon SACD hybrid and I thought it sounded absolutely wonderful.

I also had the opportunity to hear CF-30's today at my local Futureshop. They were playing some kind of Jazz music on it, and they sounded quite good, even with the insanely loud car audio section nearby. And they basically just toss those things out on the floor with no tuning...I am now seriously considering CF-30's or 50's for fronts...

I will try to get some pics up in the next few days, actually. One thing I am struck with is how much larger of a centre the CC10 is over the C-C50. Same wattage I believe, but you get the feeling of "power" with it. It's hard to explain...I can jack music or movies up and it doesn't sound like it's straining at all. The C-C50 would reach a point and that was it...like the Enterprise, it couldn't take anymore!

What about Pioneer's mid-range receivers, Yamaha, or the newer HK's?

Don't get me wrong I already gave my appreciation of them on this thread and heard it for myself in many FS stores .

I claimed to all fellow Energy owners that they did sound great but FS isn't really the best place to listen to speakers but yes they blew polks and Klipsch their mother company when it came to music but if you tried the RC on the floor at your local FS well the old conoisseur sound like that and I would dare you to just compare your c-200 vs CB-20 to see what you like most without subwoofer when it comes to music.

I said they where a very good all around performer.

I encourage you to go forward with the cf-50 but would consider waiting as I sea price dropping on them once in a while.

Not sure the CC-10 is the same wattage I beleive it's so much more powerful. probably more effecient speaker.

In fact it's capable of taking 20-200 watts while the c-c50 takes up to 100watts, probably the reason why it's not breaking a sweath but i'm quite surprised to hear that. Do you have all your speaker set to small on your receiver?

They have the same frequency response and the c-c50 achieves it with a much smaller driver.

where you have your gain on the CC-10 is the 92db sensativity vs 89 on the C-C50.

As for your receiver do you absolutely want to shop at FS or anywhere would work for ya and give us a price range and we will help you find what you are looking for. All companies make good receivers. We will help you find what you like most in your price range.
