I loved The Thin Red Line when I saw it recently, whereas I really liked The New World. I haven't seen it in a long time though, well over a year now so I need to watch it again soon. I loved Days of Heaven as well, I need to watch that again. Definitely check out DoH, but I'm thinkin it might be the same as TNW for you. A lot of people find it quite boring.
oh no that kind of worries me, but a lot of my favorite films are slower moving, even "boring" to some people, so i think i can withstand that. hell, i love Michael Clayton and almost no one can sit through that and stay awake!

true. he's relentless! (this is Squid every time he comes on here and sees you have yet to watch / review it: )

another way to maybe get him off your trail is to watch a really artsy film, or a Criterion, that way he'll be all caught up in that and he won't realize you've still yet to watch Troy

[Show spoiler]i wasn't a real big fan of The Hangover. i own it, yes (blind buy), but i'd probably give it a 3/5, maybe a 3.5/5? i haven't seen it in a long time.
and what does The Hangover have to do with it anyway?
ha well most people that didnt like this movie like the Hangover, i am a big hangover hater though.. probably the most overrated movie ive seen....ever

And I have absolutely zero interest. I've seen all the trailers, even a clip or two, and it just looks incredibly lame to me (no offense to anyone who likes it of course, different strokes for different folks and all that).

I know I'm probably Foggy's mortal enemy because of that, but I can take it
Diesel i couldnt agree more with you, the trailer and marketing for this movie was awful and that team should be fired, if i didn't read up on so many great reviews i would have never gave this movie a shot.. when i first saw the trailer i thought it was a comedy or spoof movie, i coudlnt be more wrong, just check it out it won't kill ya

oh and while 500 days was decent, i thought Shes Out of My League was one of the most funniest movies that has come out in recent years, i loved every minute of it

You bet. I've always wanted to see it and love Penelope. In case you're wondering, what I heard was that it was the most "flavorless", bland and generally terrible performance he has ever seen and a prime example of Tom Cruise's "bad acting" reputation. He uses it as an example every time we joke about bad acting. But I will take up your suggestion and give it a view with an open mind.

I watched Last Year at Marienbad and it didn't help!

I searched the thread for Troy to see when we originally had the discussion about it, and I found this post by him a few days ago that I didn't even see:

That's the thing though, I've read up on it as well because of all the praise it was getting...and I didn't like what I read

The fact that I'm not a fan of over the top violence in movies doesn't help either

Bearcat is going to let you have it now saying that about 500 Days of Summer

I thought it was a very solid movie, not the kind of movie that was hilarious throughout, but it was hilarious when it needed to be. Very strong.

She's Out of My League I thought was just average romantic comedy stuff. The genre isn't really my sort of thing most of the time. But occasionally it will work for me. It didn't in this case though. It's far from the worst I've seen though.

okay nolfoc, i respect your opinion on Kick-Ass and all, but now you're tip-toeing a dangerous line with saying my beloved (500) Days of Summer was... "decent" and i'm not tolerating such foolish language!

[Show spoiler] as you may know i'm a BIG fan of (500) Days, and i get ragged on constantly for watching it so much i'm actually looking forward to seeing She's Out of My League, but i always forget about it when i'm at the rental store. i need to make a list when i go there

nope, not yet i was planning on watching it tomorrow after a day of watching football figured once i'm bouncing all around with adrenaline from watching the cowboys curb stomp the packers (not a cowboys fan at all but i hate the packers, and yes, i live in WI) that would be a good way to unwind. i'm assuming there is wrestling in The Wrestler, but not positive

haha ironically enough this is the only film i've seen Zooey in, and while her presence / personality in the film (don't know if that's actually her or just the character) does kind of bug me, i enjoyed the movie 100% of the time and it's one of my favorites

lol I don't even know what to say to that. I will just say it's a drama with a very raw look at life.

You don't need to be a wrestling fan to watch this, and there's actually not too much wrestling in the film. Can't wait to hear what you think.

at first i was very because i didn't know what you meant but i'm guessing Zooey is in those? and those are 2 films that have been on my "rent eventually" this for a long while. i just fall into the pattern where i feel like watching "super important" films and if i'm watching something simple and fun i feel like i missed an opportunity or something. dumb logic, i know, but that's how it goes sometimes

the girl LOVES Zooey, so she'll be all when we go to rent these soon. moved them up on the list

you should have saw Elf a long time ago, its a Christmas Classic, and Will Ferrells best work right behind A Night At the Roxbury, Yes Man had its moments but didnt do much for me.. but Elf is the best!

Well the majority of us "regulars" in here can appreciate films that aren't mainstream, some being considerably slower types of films. I can't wait to hear what you think about it, but it's definitely a polarizing film. Malick's not for everyone.

Squid and I are more or less on the same page, but you and he share the indecisiveness. In reality, that's pretty realistic because most people wouldn't know what to do in that situation. I think a lot of people would act in a much different manner than they would've expected. There's no way of knowing what you'll do when you fear for your life, but it's fun to discuss

I think you'll like them a lot

And you gotta mix it up man At times, I'll end up watching a few slower, critically acclaimed films in a row and then I gotta switch it up and throw in a comedy or an action flick. After I watched a few Criterions recently, I got home from the bar and was gonna throw on something serious, but I was in a pretty comedic mood. I needed some Super Troopers therapy Do you ever have moods for certain genres or do you generally end up trying to watch to a lot of the greats and/or recommended ones out there?

I know it's hard to get to some of these, being that we're the young f*cks who got all this catchin up to do

i remember always being over at the girl's parents house or having friends over or something and someone would bring it over and throw it in, and i'd catch glimpses of it, but we'd always be eating, playing games or something so i never actually "saw" it. i'll make sure i get to it this year
