I like it, but it's never scared me. Exorcist III has some genuinely scary moments.

I'm happy Cruising has gotten lots of love in the last few years.
And Manhunter followed by To Live and Die in LA is one of the best double bills ever.

You liked Manhunter more than Collateral, Heat and Thief?

Yup. I'm a big fan of both Michael Mann and the Hannibal Lecter books. So seeing Michael Mann's take on those books is a great combination to me.

Allied, I think, got really mishandled by the marketing. It's a mature spy movie in the tradition of the 40s studio output, and the marketing completely ruined the twist (which is a major question throughout the second half of the film but the very fact that marketing brought it up kind of answers the question for potential audiences) while selling it as an action spectacle (which it decidedly is not). I think it's wildly underappreciated, and the steady downfall of Zemeckis' later career feels so unearned.

He hasn't forgotten how to make a movie. He's evolved as a filmmaker from the guy who made Used Cars to the guy who can make serious drama like Cast Away and Flight, and no one seems to care anymore.

It pains me that he's making children's movies now because it doesn't feel like it's coming from his heart. It seems like getting funding for something like The Witches (which I liked) and Pinocchio (which I'm sure will be fine) is impossible unless he's appealing to an easy audience since no one wants him to fund him making movies for adults.

He's always had that kid playfulness at heart, and you can see that shine through in his more brighter films. Very much similar to his friend/mentor Spielberg. So that's why he's making these more kid friendly affairs.

His next few films sound more adult though. Ares and The King sound like Contact and Flight/The Walk, respectively.
So there's a chance those could be a new yet return to form.

Mann is great, definitely at directing action scenes. His resume got worse after Collateral though.

Heat, Manhunter, Collateral and The Insider are all great.

I'd say Thief and Ali are good. The ones I did not enjoy are Miami Vice and Blackhat.

You know what? I might be sure now that Lynch atleast made one masterpiece.

I am convinced the story of Mulholland Drive despite two scenes, makes sense.

I love me some Raimi, and I love me some Darkman.
BUT The Crow is easily in a Top 10 Best Comic Book Movie list (aka my own subjective tastes).

Yeah Public Enemies is the first Michael Mann film that underwhelmed me. I don't remember much of Ali. I've seen it, but that was a long ass time ago. I have to rewatch it again at some point.
