With DNA and RNA being essential for life, and both being forms of acid, how come antacids don’t kill us? Their job is to wipe out acid.

All the stations up here don't sign off with Dixie
The way they did in sweet home Alabama
The people here don't sip Jack Daniels whiskey
The way they do in that Tennessee mountain land

Oh lord I'm stuck up here and got Dixie on my mind.

got that feeling of accomplishment this morning.

we gutted our living room last April. we reinsulated, redrywalled, i installed new lights in the ceiling along w/a new fan, ran new wiring and outlets, got new carpet, new tile for the entry way and closet, and got new furniture. I also built a tv stand for the corner of the room and got myself a new tv.

i finally got the base trim up yesterday. that was officially the last thing I needed to do w/the room. now it's up to the wife to find new curtains/drapes for the windows.

also got some business stuff caught up yesterday. on top of my 40 hour/week regular job, I have a side taxidermy business. the week of thanksgiving was our deer season. I ended up with 35 head mounts and 20 skulls to boil & bleach.

I've been busting my @$$ getting skins ready to be mounted. yesterday it was super nice so I set up my stuff outside and got 9 of those skulls cleaned to the point where they can now be bleached. this coming Saturday is supposed to be just as nice so I'm hoping I can get the remaining skulls taken care of as well.

I'm hoping there's a banker, financial advisor or even just someone with experience in the matter who can chime in and offer some insight into something that's been keeping me up at night these past few days. About 15 years ago I got into some credit card debt and have had to make "deals" with collection agencies to pay off some of the debt. So out of the blue I receive a letter from an agency last week offering me a "discount" on an old Bank of America CC debt I thought I had paid off around 2006. I probably do still have an outstanding balance, which I'll be more than happy to pay off, but my concern is, what happens to the rest of the money they're claiming they'll "forgive" if I agree to this? More importantly, is this even legit? How can I verify if this is for real? I know Credit Card companies aren't in the business of giving money away so why are they willing to forgive part of one's debts?

I thought after XX # of years, the bank sells the debt to a collection agency to get it off their books. then the collection agency deals w/it going forward.

first off, i am NOT a financial adviser. but i have had experience in this sort of thing. having credit card debt can be a scary thing if not handled quickly and properly.

call the credit card company directly and inquire about it. it's possible someone is doing a phishing scam to try and get some information from you. so i would call the cc company directly and ask them about it.

make sure to get the person's name with whom you speak. notate the time and date, as well. write down/type what they say and especially any numbers they give out (whether it be numbers about money or a phone number). take detailed records of the conversation to have as a backup in case you have to call again or someone else calls you back.

the cc company will have records of you either paying off the debt or them selling the account to another company (usually a collections agency). and you definitely don't want it going into "charged off" status. that will put a negative mark on your credit report for a while (up to 7 years).

[Show spoiler]"charged off" means that the cc company has given up on trying to collect the debt and has sold the account to a collection agency; who will then pursue the debt and try to claim a payment on it. and it's usually at a higher amount since they had to pay for the account in the first place. then add more interest, too.

but call them and ask about it. that doesn't cost you anything but a bit of time.

Thanks. I could try calling the cc company but it's been too long. Even if I find old statements from 2003 to look for Account info I doubt they would even still have this info in their system, especially if they sold the debt to an agency (which appears to be the case here). Plus this would open up a whole new can of worms, wouldn't it? Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the part of the debt that the agencies are willing to "forgive" is the interest accumulated over the years so if I contact the cc company and they actually still have all my account info wouldn't they demand I pay up in full right then and there? At least with the agency I only pay a portion of the debt and I can do it over time. As for the legitimacy of the offer, would my credit report list all of my old outstanding debts?

Your bank would have sold your unpaid balance, with interest included. This is how a bank can get back some of the money they had lost out on, rather than be out everything.

The agency that you made a settlement with will cover part of the balance you owed (principal plus interest). Once you settle, that's it - case closed. They can't go back and turn around and want more out of you.

Get a free credit report (you get a free one once per year), and take a look at that. That will tell you if anything lingering from the past is still around.

Once again going to add a little extra time to morning break due to people I don't like hanging out back here where they shouldn't be.

Hoping that Congress can get this government shutdown out of the way so my Sailors & myself can continue receiving paychecks!

Your thing is obviously WAY more important, but folks also can't file taxes until it's over either.

I've been playing Nioh all day, as in literally all day. My eyeballs are itchy, and I have a sense of pride considering how much has been accomplished today. This game is the PERFECT balance of skill vs luck imo. Highly recommended, if anyone is interested.

Thanks man. All in all, it wasn't a bad weekend outside of the memorial. Wife and I are looking into some things. Too early to really talk about openly, but I hope if this is how it is to be it goes smoothly. Last thing we need in our lives is another cluster ****!
