I did six today.

[Show spoiler]

300
My roommate distracted me and I accidentally put the spine piece on upside down forcing me to have the disc on the left instead of the right! I'll fix it in the future, but for now, I think it was a great first attempt on doing the spine. I can safely say I DO NOT like doing it. But the rest of the images I think turned out pretty good.

Beowulf

Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Smokin' Aces
I also took this opportunity to flip the spine around. Luckily, from a distance the Universal logo looks the same even if it's upside down, lol

They all look great but I love the Smokin' Aces one. How long does one take to do? You need to give a full step-by-step tutorial

Thanks, lol. I was VERY happy that one turned out. I think my favorite is the Sucker Punch one. I love that image.

I'm terrible with tutorials. I basically followed the video that's posted within this thread a few pages back. I don't use Photoshop, though, I used Gimp. And a hair dryer works best for heating up the spine enough to warm up the glue to remove it.

Those all came out awesome even the one with the little snafu.

You have definitely inspired me to get going on the few I want to do. Removing the spine is always what has kept me from moving forward. I'll have it a go with one of my damaged steels first soon enough.

Great job though mertz! They all do look great, am partial to the Smokin' Aces one.

Agreed and same here about the spines. Not only does it seems like a PITA I do not have and am a photoshop noob so I would probably mess up getting the template right anyway. I still may try the whole 5x7/6x8 photo option and omit the spine for now.

Rather than Photoshop, if you give GIMP another try, just buy some legal sized paper and print the image to its maximum size on that paper type and cut down to desired size. No template needed.

The spine is a HUGE pain. It's sad that I bought a hair dryer just for doing these. LOL. I'm going to tackle the rest of my steels soon. I'm excited for the images I chose for The Dark Knight and Casino Royale.

Is that what you use to print the images on...standard paper...not photo paper?? I always wondered how it would look using regular paper and not photo paper.

I used premium legal size paper with a brightness of 96. I didn't feel like getting photo paper I did brighten the image prior to printing, as my first Sherlock Holmes image kept coming out way too dark. That was a lot of wasted ink...

That is good to hear and IMO they look really nice not being photo paper. Knowing this now I may give it a go...never felt like paying for photo paper and was not sure how regular paper would look.

I'm impressed with my printer. I was fearful I'd have to splurge on photo paper. The ream of legal size was only $8.99 for 500 sheets on Amazon. It's HP, I think.

Good luck! Post the results when you do end up trying it.

Discovered the Blufans art cards are exact size to their respective steel. So, with extreme caution, i changed the art on the left to my preferred pic and it looks great. Didnt want to change the Mark I art though.

Love it mertz!!!

It's as it should be. I'm super jealous. I, too, saved the pic from ritmomundo last night as that is the image I've wanted to use all along. Now, I just have to commit the time to doing it, which won't be easy but I have to.

Man, I love that. Awesome!!
