It's quite small too, I thought it might have been some kind of subservient species, but it may just be a small alien, bowing to Princess Leia in reverence!

I too always thought it was Tatooine, until Abrams confirmed it wasn't at the panel. I kinda like that it's a different planet, I like Tatooine but I think we've seen plenty enough of it.

Could that be Ahsoka? That would be awesome.

No. Ahsoka has a more human face and eyes. Ahsoka would be what, like 50 years old at this point? So age-wise she could still be around, but I doubt she'll be in these.

I really hope it's not Ahsoka. I know a lot of people want her to appear in the film, but I think there should be no Jedi alive during the OT except who we see. I can just see "Empire Strikes Back: The Disney Special Edition":

Obi-Wan: That boy is our last hope.
Yoda: No. There is another.
Obi-Wan: Wait, we forgot Ahsoka - she's pretty bad-ass.
Yoda: Oh, yeah. And Kanan, too. He's improved quite a bit.
Obi-Wan: And Ezra's got powerful in the last nine years.
Yoda: OK, screw Luke, let Vader have him...

I know you could argue that they were in hiding, but I think the OT is more powerful if Luke is truly the last (and first) of the Jedi.

And I'm not a hater of "The Clone Wars" or "Rebels", I just want all the Jedi (ex-, Padawan, whatever) to be dead by the time "A New Hope" starts, except Obi-Wan and Yoda, obviously.

Yeah, that's true. It pretty much throws the "Luke is the last of the Jedi" thing out the window if there are other Jedi still around.

There's a difference between been a Jedi and the person that can bring the downfall of the Sith, Luke and Leia, were possibly the only ones that could influence Vader. A lot of Jedi were killed during the battle of Geneosis, they weren't all game-changers, like Luke. The last of the Jedi was a bit of a fib, but Luke, been described as the "last hope" isn't far off the mark.

There was almost zero real interaction between him and the actors, and I'm not making this up, watch the special features! i think those movies would've turned out better had he just let someone else with passion direct them, because it's obvious by AOTC he had none (maybe it was all the negative comments about Jar Jar and racism on Phantom Menace????).
The bolded part made me laugh out loud. It's not entirely true though. I did talk to his actors quite a bit too.

No, that's not it, but all the other points I mentioned. Good job misinterpreting my post though.

Just read this great post on IGN with regards to the trailer analysis and how the film could pan out.
I'll put it in spoiler tags in case anyone doesn't want to accidentally read it

My Theory on the Plot of Star Wars: Episode VII

WARNING: If on the off chance I am correct in anyway and you don't want the movie spoiled, don't read this post. Also, Holy long post Batman! Also, I may over explain some things that IGN users will already know. I'm doing that for people I will share this with, who are not the rabid devourers of content we are here.

There have been a lot of leaked rumors over the past year, but I'd like to focus on three as the basis of my theory. I've focused on these three for two reasons. First, they seem the most plausible of all the leaks. The rest would've made Twilight look positively Shakespearean in comparison and I don't believe Lawrence Kasdan capable of penning such shallow tripe. Second, they came from Latino Review, which has an uncanny ability to get the scoop on Sci-Fi and Comic movies, months in advance. I'd kill for these guys sources. Seriously, they rock.

The first rumor is, the new trilogy will revolve around the Solo Twins. Second, is that at the beginning of the movie, Luke Skywalker has been missing for some time. Finally, we are told that Han and Chewie have not used the Millennium Falcon for awhile and will be reunited with the ship in the movie. Now, let's fit some of the clues from the new trailer and information we have learned from the Star Wars: Celebration Panel and the Exhibit Hall to these rumors.

Lets start with the character Finn. We know he was a Stormtrooper. I think that at one point, he was either a true believer or, joined under false pretencies to learn about this new Empire apparently called, The First Order. From the trailer, we also suspect that he deserts his post as Stormtrooper and somehow ends up on the run from The First Order. We see him on the desert planet in both trailers. Thanks to JJ Abrams, we now know that this planet is called Jakku, it is not Tatooine as many suspected. Jakku is a spaceship graveyard which explains all the crashed ships in the trailer. There Finn runs into Rey, played by Daisy Ridley.

From the exhibit hall at Star Wars: Celebration, it has come out that Rey is also known as Kyra Rey. Now, here's where it gets interesting. Kyra Rey sounds suspiciously similar to the name of who we believe is the main villain of the story. The man with the Revanesque mask and crossguard lightsaber, Kylo Ren. The same illiteration has been used before in the Star Wars universe with Luke and Leia. So, what if Kyra Rey and Kylo Ren both have the last name Solo!? Yes, the central light figure and central dark figure of the new saga are the twin son and daughter of Han and Leia, just like in the old EU! Ah, now I have your attention. Remember, while they did toss the old EU out of canon, they did say they could use any characters, places, plots, or themes they wanted.

This brings me back to Finn. What if his heading to Jakku wasn't a coincidence? What if he went there specifically to get help escaping The First Order from his childhood friend Kyra Rey Solo, because Finn's last name is Calrissian? Ah, the plot thickens and I'm not even done yet. Now that Finn has lead The First Order to Jakku, which we know will happen because we see Finn and Kyra Rey running from an explosion, caused by an incoming TIE fighter in the trailer, he and Kyra Rey need help getting off planet. So, Kyra Rey reaches out to her father, Han Solo and his trusty Wookiee, Chewie. This trues up the last scene with the thrid rumor, with Han and Chewie fighting their way through The First Order troops (Hence blaster and bowcaster raised on the Millennium Falcon) and saying, "Chewie, we're home."

This brings us to the second rumor and third of the new characters. We know from the Celebration Panel that Oscar Isaac's X-Wing Pilot, Poe Dameron has been sent on a mission by a certain Princess. I believe that mission is to find/rescue her lost brother Luke. Once Han, Chewie, Finn, and Kyra Rey are reunited, they will look to rendezvous with Poe Dameron and Luke, why? Well from here on out, we go off the rails of clues and hints, and I delve into supposition based on Star Wars history and the film makers desire to make this new trilogy feel like the old one.

If Kylo Ren is indeed a Solo, why is he fighting for the "bad guys" you ask? Well, as I stated, the film makers are trying to make this feel like traditional Star Wars. Well Star Wars at it's core has always been a family saga about the struggle between good and evil, light and dark. What's more Star Warsian than having a family member fall to the dark side and hopefully, be redeemed over the course of the trilogy. If somewhat tragically so, a la Vader?

So, let's assume that at some point, Luke was Kylo's master and for whatever reason, Kyra Rey decided not to train to be a Jedi. Luke, never having the full training that other Jedi had, fails with his first apprentice, much the same way Obi-Wan did with Luke's father. Kylo falls to the Dark Side and betrays Luke to The First Order, which explains why Luke is missing at the beginning of the film.

This betrayal would've drive a wedge in the Solo family, Which is why we find Kyra Rey living a solitary life on Jakku as a scavenger, hiding from her brother and the forces of The First Order. Once reunited, Kyra will realize that it is her Destiny to finally become a Jedi to help stop The First Order and try to redeem her brother. She will take up her grandfather's original Lightsaber, lost by Luke at Bespin and train under her rescued Uncle, Luke Skywalker. I also suspect, that either Finn maybe Force Sensative too (This is called The Force Awakens after all. We may have more than one new Jedi) or he is simply delivering her grandfather's Lightsaber to Kyra Rey. He is shown in concept art in the Exhibit hall, carrying a Lightsaber.

Now, what is this First Order I've been talking about? Well, in the Exhibit hall, all of the Stormtrroper armor was listed as, "The Armor of a Stormtrooper of The First Order." So, let's say for argument's sake that at the end of Return of the Jedi, the Rebel Alliance goes on to rout the Empire and set up the New Republic. Over the next few decades, the defeated Imperial Remnant (nod/wink EU fans) goes off to lick it's wounds, regroup, rebuild, and reorganize into The First Order.

Now, sometime before the beginning of the movie and just before the fall of Kylo Ren, the First Order invades and takes the New Republic by surprise. The Galaxy plunges into Civil War. Some planets of the New Republic jump swiftly to The First Order's side, either out of fear, or because they never wanted the Empire to go away. Remember, some systems had it really good under Papa Palpatine's rule. This accomplishes two things; first, it's a wink and a nod to the EU fans who loved the story of Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO. Secondly and more importantly, it sets up Episode VII in a very similar position to the beginning of A New Hope, with the Galaxy in engulfed by Civil War. Once again, the film makers are going for that classic Star Wars feel.

In the initial years of this new Civil War, The New Republic government crumbles and they lose a lot of ground to The First Order. The New Republic is reorganized into The Resistance, as they are called in the Exhibit Hall at Star Wars: Celebration.

So, there you have it. The movie will begin with a Galaxy in Civil War and our heroes scattered across the galaxy. Finn will find something that will cause him to bring the heroes together, possibly Anakin Skywalker's Lightsaber. Kyra and possibly Finn will train to be Jedi to help stop The First Order and bring Kylo Ren back to the light, if possible.

What do you think?

Hat tip to user Patriot8813-tk who made the connection that Kyra Rey and Kylo Ren are the Solo Kids.

Ugh, you can't spell ignorance without IGN.
It's not Anakins sabre, it's Luke's for starters.

It's a style over substance movie, but the style isn't there so...

The main offenders in Attack of the Clones to me are the performances/love scenes between Anakin and Padme. They're some of the very few scenes in any movie I've seen that are just painful to sit through. The performances and dialogue are so awkward and stale and it really looks like the actors are not comfortable acting together. (Not sure if that was true, but it really comes across that way.) Aside from that, I don't really remember the movie too much. I just remember it being a bore and practically nothing else stands out (aside from Christopher Lee's part).

None of these elements are problems with the original trilogy.

Episode III was a lot better in my opinion, at least towards the end. They played to the (very) few strengths that the first two films had (i.e. JarJar doesn't speak, less of the prequel characters and more connection to the original trilogy, etc.) There were still elements to dislike, but Episode III came the closest to matching the original trilogy.

I agree with just about all of this, and I would encourage you and anyone else who was disappointed by the prequels to watch the highest rated fanedits at fanedit.org. In particular, Secior's Return of the Sith Revisited comes as close as possible to eliminating most of Jar Jar from TPM, and most of the embarassing dialogue. It is substantially better than the theatrical release. Also, the l8wrtr edits of Attack of the Clones and and Revenge of the Sith are great improvements.

Do prequel fans get mad at all the talk of recreating the "magic" of the original trilogy, because by default that means the opinion is there was nothing magical about the prequels?

I know IGN are not the best but in their defence I think they mean it was Anakins/Lukes Light Sabre as it was handed down from Anakin to Luke by Obi Wan

Every single Marvel movie to date . Monsters University. Big Hero 6. Wreck it Ralph. Pirates. Toy Story, Up, Winnie the Pooh, Apparently the majority of the new SW7 cast. Should I keep going? Did you really just complain about the lack of male representation in cinema, let alone Star Wars?? And the importance of princesses to Disney? Two words: Snow White. You're not wrong, but it still feels strange to think they put all their hope in a relatively untrained Jedi (even one with the potential that a son of Anakin would have) and don't even call in the others for some help - we know from Rebels that Yoda knows they exist. I think it's clear that in the OT there were supposed to be no Jedi left except who we saw. That can be retconned, just like anything, but I think it's a much more powerful story when Luke is the last.

I liked how they called that zoom during the Falcon chase "battlestar galactica style", as if that's the only thing that ever used a crash zoom. Lucas did actually employ a few during the battle of Geonosis in Clones, but why give the prequels credit when you can reference something far more hip?

Not reading the article, as I am avoiding all spoilers, but your lightsaber commented reminded me of something:
after the trailer debut, on the official livestream, they had 4 idiots analyzing the trailer shot-by-shot - a guy from AICN, one from Slashfilm, a couple others...
and they were making themselves look SO stupid. They were flat wrong with most of their "observations" and didnt seem to have a clue.

Apart from the fact that it is anakins lightsabre? It always has been, Luke inherited it when obi wan picked it up and gave it to him.

I asked earlier if it was Luke's/vaders sabre in the new trailer being handed over and got some snarky comment. Fact is, it is technically both, vaders sabre that was given to Luke. Didn't want to be pedant though.
