The new(?) flimsy-ish cardboard mailers BB uses for shipping are making me rage me because my mailman is folding and jamming them into our community-style mailbox and they're impossible to get out. Because there's no lip when he has them open, but a slight metal edge when closed, which means you have to bend it MORE to get it out. Ugh.
The Max Max SB was thankfully undamaged, but an Amray I received yesterday was crushed in places. |

I had the exact same thing happen to me a few months back -- the front panel with all the doors in it has smaller openings than the boxes themselves, so when the mail-lady stuffed -- and I mean STUFFED -- a letter parcel in diagonally, you couldn't get it out...

Same here, they forget (or don't know) that their opening is larger than the one we have to get the mail out of. I haven't had anything damaged so far, but I sure have to mangle those envelopes to get them out.
I've had a community mail box since 1983, I think the year they started (in Ottawa area). In those days, when the standard installation was designed, I guess people didn't get as many "parcels" as they do now, so they didn't design in as many over-sized compartments. My current comm. box is much newer, but is the same re that. Sometimes they bring stuff to your house (since it's obviously nearby) when they run out of compartments, but I don't think they like to do that. There is an exactly-right-sized paper/bubble envelope that's perfect for a BD disc/game case. I notice a lot of the amazon 3rd-party sellers use them. It doesn't have any excess size to fold/rip and is easy to get out of our boxes. Got to think it costs less than the standard larger ones too. Proper mailing materials that acknowledge the realities of mail delivery means less returns for the company, and less dissatisfied customers. You're gonna love those mail boxes if you don't have them yet... Last edited by cfraser; 09-12-2015 at 10:06 PM. |

^ What you described is what UK amazon uses for steelbooks (only, AFAIK). Fits in (and out!) of the regular community mailbox opening.
I don't like paper envelopes either, but it's the reality of our postage system pricing. Under $2 for thin paper/bubble for a standard BD/game case, or >$11 (in Ontario, incl. tax) for solid cardboard with a bit of protection. They base the rates on thickness. At least for small users, businesses/large users can get much better rates. I have a bunch of those cardboard mailers from the CD days and they cost a lot to use nowadays, their thickness for current rates, and people won't pay for me to use them. Also, amazon has a fixed rate you're allowed to charge for shipping ($3.49 for a "video disc") so sellers in Canada use what's cheap to make their price appear lower. I've never had a single problem with those "right-sized" envelopes though, they are actually surprisingly solid (yes, joe-cheapskate here saves them) and they stand up a bit better because they don't flex (when filled). I'll take a guess that Canada Post may require BB and amazon etc. to use a standard-sized paper/bubble mailer in order to get preferred (low) rates. Pure speculation. Did anyone see the Bond Steels at any best buy? Most are showing sold out online and in store, but some still show preorder with a release date for next week. I was in there first thing yesterday and didn't see any, nor did I see the bond box set but it's showing all stores had it in stock.

Saw in store:
Prometheus 3D Combo $9.99 Predator 3D Combo $9.99 Used to be part of the BB 3D 2 for $20 deal. If you are interested in a site that has the price history of BB Canada I found a site that does it: https://www.pricetracking.ca Last edited by uther; 09-19-2015 at 05:27 AM. |

Saw 2 copies of Spring last weekend at Best Buy with a clear case. I didn't realize until afterwards that it was never released in a clear case in Canada. Fast forward to today, and I decide to get it and both copies were gone and replaced with a copy with the regular blue case.

BB's selection is pretty sad these days. Unfortunately, I won't be surprised to see their movie section disappear like their music section did.

I'm finding myself shopping at HMV for a lot of my in store purchases these days. Pricing is far more reasonable than they used to be (sometimes less than any competitor including Amazon). Most of my blu-ray shopping is done on Amazon now. The only thing I've found myself buying from Bestbuy these days is their exclusive steelbooks.
