I think all the Marvel movies have really ugly, flat digital grading that makes the digital photography look worse than it should.

Hi gang,

Thanks for confirming the dark picture quality of Dr Strange. Was afraid my settings were off.

It did not ruin the quality of the 3D at all. Just didn't understand why so dark in hospital hallways, etc. But the contrast and color levels were in synch so it was just Marvell. Slowly got a bit brighter as picture progressed.

Quite a tribute that the 3D could be so strong despite the darkness.

I rewatched Doctor Strange last night. I agree its PQ is fairly dark throughout, especially in the opening scene. Having said that, the 3D is so immersive, I never noticed before. The Doctor Strange flying through the multiverse segment is incredible.

Hi Chrysagon,

Thanks so much for watching it again yourself and confirming what I noticed.

My main concern was while my flat TV settings using the 3D Video Wizard appear correct - since other films were bright enough - the Wizard itself had limitations that in order to get a nice 3D effect, I would find other discs to be darker than they should be as well.

Fortunately that is not the case. Despite the Wizard being an anaglyth device that converts flat sets to 3D, the dark picture did not mask the immersive 3D pop outs and depth in Dr Strange the unit is capable of producing.

And it just occurred to me. I could have simply put the disc on my main set up to compare the darkness level.

Hi pacman

If you can, get Dragon 2 also. Great sequel and 3D.

Just watched one of the best reference quality 3D discs I've seen to date. With the DTS-HD, it was a 5 by 5.

Lichtmond 3 - Days of Eternity.

Mind you, this is not a movie but an imaginative music video for the senses so it might not be for everyone. And taking into account this is not reproducing the natural, dizzying height from atop the former twin towers (The Walk) or the magnificent vistas of the Grand Canyon (Grand Canyon Adventure), this can still rank amongst the most stunning of displays of crestive 3D depth and pop outs one could ever ask for.

Again, this combination of music and computer generated video artistry might not be for everybody but technically, it's easily a 3D reference disc to show off to others.

I would like to thank Arcam for recommending this to me. It is one of four made by Lichtmond and I'll certainly look into the other three.

I just finished watching Pacific Rim. It looked incredible in 3D. I loved it.
I also watched about half of Quackersz…. Great 3D . Incredible 3D I have to say. Lots of sexual innuendo in this movie and I was enjoying it . Ill have to finish it another day.

Men in black 3

3d added so much to the film, but the colour and detail remained bright and perfect

Time jump, gun out the screen, general depth all really good!

Hi dhvs,

On eBay. These are the actual German discs. He's asking $16 but accepting orders so I got each for $14. Ordered the other three today so he combined shipping. $7 for first plus one dollar for each additional.

I see those Lichtmond discs have Auro 3D sound.... very appealing if I end up going with Denon as my next receiver (supposedly incredible sounding for music in audio "3D" compared to Atmos or X).

Thank you for the link. I’m tempted to buy the whole set myself. Not sure if I should just buy one or all 4. You would think they are pretty similar?

Hi cykllr,

Glad to be of help. Do a google for lichtmond and you will find clips from the different releases under "videos". Though the style in art and music has similarities, each appears to be unique so that's why I ordered the other three. Have number three whose theme regards time with vocals.

He does sell all four together which would have been cheaper but wanted to try out one first.

BTW. When you make an offer you will be notified immediately if it was accepted. Again, these are the authentic German releases. If you look at a different seller from the Russian federation you'll see they don't come with artwork or something and mention made in Russia so I suspect those are bootlegged.

Hi van,

My denon does not come with auto 3D sound so it played back in DTS HD.

We have a Lichtmond thread here - definitely a series to turn on, tune in and drop out!

I fancied some sex, violence and vehicular action so I just rewatched the very entertaining Drive Angry.

This time around I wasn't so keen on some of the CGI and I could have done with stronger 3D throughout but there were plenty of pop-outs and the film was just as fun the second time around.
