That word makes me want to vomit. Sad that for some, convenience is more important than quality when it comes to HT.

People act like HT and the highest quality has to mean discs all over your house. I have two display cabinets either side of my HT with hundreds of blurays and some 4K discs. I’m a neat freak and not one guest has commented that they make the room look untidy or take up too much space. Many have commented that they look great (I have special limited edition stuff displayed also). If it’s movie time, I go to the cabinet, pick a film and I’m good to go. I do not even leave the case around, I put it back in the display cabinet, the wrong way round so it’s easy to just slip back when finished.

This space issue is just an excuse normally. People should just admit they don’t care about quality.

From many years ago, I would tell folks about movie XY or Z and how great it looked and sounded on LaserDisc, had OAR and Dolby Stereo (Dolby Surround). The typical response: “I will wait to see it on HBO or Showtime”. Little has changed for many people. To this day look how many people hate those black bars.

Yeah, or zoom the image to get rid of them! I can’t help but roll my eyes.

When you have a sizable collection, they must be neatly arranged or you'll never be able to locate anything. All of my titles are shelved and alphabetized by title within each format. Otherwise, how would I ever locate The Lost Skeleton Of Cadavra the next time I wish to view it?

As anecdotes constitute irrefutable proof to so many of our members, I again offer this observation: Almost everyone that I know has a large collection of something. People are like dung beetles, we accumulate a lot of "sheet" only the type of "sheet" collected varies from dung beetle to dung beetle. Go to a few estate sales and you will see just how much one can amass in a lifetime.

VUDU is good enough for me. I don't get why some think the quality is so horrible.

Ignorant then, ignorant now.

Today, they complain about the vertical black bars when watching older TV shows and movies in 1.33. Trying to explain OAR to them is beyond futile; they just respond with " I want the picture to fill my screen!" So, instead they choose to watch older content in Gumby Vision with the image stretched and distorted. Lopped off heads are fine, just keep that screen full!

I, for one, have never said that Vudu's quality was "horrible." Netflix and Vudu have been the most reliable SVODs for me and they have offered consistently good quality. I use both. But "good" isn't the same as "best" and this is an enthusiast website where quality IS one of the biggest considerations for many of us.

Don't you hate when people prioritize their leisure time and spending based on what's important to them instead of basing them on what's important to you?

That's the worst.

General masses not really, HT fans, you betcha.

I also despise sarcasm as a constant tool in forums. Especially from people who think they know everything because they are a bit older.

More often I find myself watching movies on the Movies Anywhere app itself. Especially since they finally added a search function on roku and enabled 4k playback.

I still buy on VUDU most of the time, but I have gotten some good deals on FN lately and if itunes is the only place with a 4K i'll buy it there and watch it on MA.

Other one offs like me having The Mask of Zorro on which is only 4K on Amazon, watching it on MA allows me to avoid their god awful UI

Why? What do you care how stonesfan129 - or any other 'HT fan', for that matter - spends his or her leisure time and money?

'HT fans' aren't obligated to spend their leisure time and money the way you think they should, are they?

So what do you care?

Why should I care? Anything that could potentially effect my enjoyment or indeed the availability of movies and my HT in general MAKES me care. Any trends, any behaviour all has a chain reaction. Mass adoption of habits/tech can impact me, therefore I have every right to be concerned. I was virtually born in the cinema, film is a lifelong passion of mine.

I care to the extent that what I value and enjoy continues to be available to me. Sure, it would be helpful if more people valued this hobby as I do, but that is not my choice to make. The ability to exercise our free will is far more important to me than the fate of any of my hobbies.

My choice is physical media and the most I can do is to promote its advantages as best I can. People are free to make their own decisions and I maintain that that freedom is more important than the choices that they make with it.

Does it, though? Your gag reflex seems a little selective at times.

People watching movies on television sets or people streaming TV shows doesn't make you want to vomit, does it?

Except of course for all the trends and behaviors that don't cause chain reactions.

Like the way TV didn't kill movies and the way cable didn't kill movies and the way home video didn't kill movies.

Do you seriously think your 'concerns' give you the right to sit in judgment of how everybody else spends their own time and their own money?

I mean, as we all know, I'm as pompous a douche as pompous douches come and even I think that's a bit much.

Cool.
As usual, you twist things to suit your own narrative. People watching movies at home is every bit as important as watching them at the cinema and should be celebrated.

The HT fans I was discussing was in direct response to posts on here, you know? The forum that goes by the name of Blu-ray?

Yep, I can judge whoever I like, you are doing just that by replying to my post and making your usual smart ass quips.

It’s human nature to judge, every single one of us does it on a constant basis.

That "junk" is a restoration project that might be really worth something if only they ever actually completed the work. I have known a few people who attempted to restore some old clunker to mint condition that never got it done. These type of projects almost always go way over budget and take far longer to finish than they estimated.

I had a friend who spent years trying to restore a 1967 Chevy Camaro RS convertible; this is as far as he ever got with it:

[Show spoiler]Robert23.jpg

Believe it or not, it looked far worse than this when he first started on it.
