Here's a question for everyone:
What's everyone's favourite Bond film from each era? For me it goes: Sean Connery: Goldfinger George Lazenby: On Her Majesty's Secret Service (obviously ![]() Roger Moore: The Spy Who Loved Me Timothy Dalton: The Living Daylights Pierce Brosnan: GoldenEye Daniel Craig: Casino Royale (so far) Last edited by The Fallen Deity; 02-14-2015 at 08:29 PM. |

Ah. So you're just comparing its graphics to those of today? I was referring more to the level of fun to be had while playing it.

The game was the first properly respectable console fps but it just seems so incredibly creaky and ancient now. I downloaded the 'Goldeneye Reloaded' title (with Daniel Craig visage) off PSN quite a while back but got quite bored with it about five levels in. Best 'Bond' gaming experience I've probably ever had was playing the fantastic 'Black' fps on the original X-Box. It allowed you to play custom s'tracks during gameplay so I used to enjoy listening to Bond themes whilst causing absolute mayhem. Sad but true.

Perfect Dark fixed many of the issues it had such as enemies being able to identify you and shooting at you from different elevations and melee attacks to not allow Goldeneye "boxing grappling" to avoid being hit. |

Like I said, I'm not denying it is campy, but I don't mind campy. I love how it is balanced with really dark moments. It's a great experience. Very funny. But to each his own of course ![]() As for the eras: Connery - THUNDERBALL Moore - SPY WHO LOVED ME / OCTOPUSSY Dalton - THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS (by quite a stretch) Brosnan - GOLDENEYE (by quite a stretch) Craig - CASINO ROYALE For what it's worth I still consider the first 4 Connery films to be arguably the best 4 in the series. THUNDERBALL is my all-time favorite and I'd take those first 4 Connery films and a handful of other great ones in the series for an unranked top ten. For what it's worth I've been a huge Bond fan since I was 6 years old. Naturally I love almost every single film. Exceptions: - OHMSS - Sorry folks, as I've mentioned there's a lot to admire, but in my eyes George Lazenby is horrible as Bond. - TWINE - Boring soap opera. - QOS - Forster's attempt at an arthouse Bond film is laughable, the "subtext" is laughable, and it's just such a drab film. Bond spends the majority of the runtime in a CGI wind tunnel, covered in dirt, or mutually sullen with a very sullen Bond girl. It's just not a Bond film. Gemma Arterton was nice, but then they ruined that with that shameless GOLDFINGER reference. The plot is impenetrable and don't even get me started on the editing. Oh and I almost forgot - the bits of the film that aren't edited and shook to within an inch of their life are ripped straight from THE BOURNE SUPREMACY. There are some nice things about it that make it watchable. Craig is still trying and the cinematography is lovely when it stays away from actors' faces. Also easily David Arnold's best score. Didn't mean to get so long winded. Just my personal opinion (for you QUANTUM fans). Anyways, it's nice to see some fellow 007 fans on here! Usually have to scour the specific boards for that. I went to see Skyfall with one of my friends, who is actually a real Bond fan (like myself). I liked it (didnt love it - I admit) but he hated it. He just said it was really boring and didn't feel or sound like a Bond film.
I think what they are doing now with Bond is that they are actually trying to produce a critically acclaimed film, which I don't think they really have done in the past. John Glen, whilst a competent director, is no David Lynch or The Coen Brothers, however he made some solid films. I think they are trying to give Bond more credibility in terms of being a respectable film, hiring respected cinematographers/directors etc. In that past the modus operandi was, get some girls, some gadgets, a hammy villain and let Bond play with it. Now it seems like they want to actually get to know Bond, explore his past etc, which I don't think sits very well with people who want Bond to be throw away entertainment. I guess the box office doesn't lie though and the takings for Skyfall have to be an endorsement in how the audience feels about the direction of the franchise. |
