Unhappy Genie Outtakes?

Has anyone seen the Genie Outtakes on the Digital version yet?

(Optionally, can you explain the Surfer-Dude-Genie one, teaser on page 65?)

I just watched sequels on iTunes, both have an aspect ratio of 1.78:1

Now here's a question: since both are direct-to-video and intended for the old 4:3 TVs, weren't they originally animated for a 1.33:1 aspect ratio? And if so, why crop it?

Also, the video is filthy. There are spots here and there, with visible dirt on the frame. No clean up was taken, it seems.

I checked on Vudu HDX a 2 minute preview of the sequels.....

Aspect ratio: 1.78:1 for both (no black bars at all)

Both not remastered, seem like an SD upscale....

Maybe these movies were finished in SD, since they were the first ever direct to VHS/Laserdisc Disney movies ?

I don't know....

That would explain why it doesn't look like HD.

It's a good thing I got the Microsoft bundle. I'd be pretty upset if I paid full price for these.

I know for sure that the budget for the sequels was very low, it's possible the final master was done in SD only to save some money.

Nobody could have imagined that HD would have been possible in home video 20 years ago when these were made.

These movies were meant to be seen in VHS and at best Laserdisc. Even the DVDs were sub-par in image quality

Does anyone know what the two Aladdin titles are that are listed for $36.99? There is still no cover art for either one. They both still say "Cover coming soon".

Yes but when you attach the letters "HD" next to it, you'd expect HD quality. That's what's upsetting. That Disney is passing SD quality video off as HD.

Disney should of just had them labeled as SD...

I chatted with a DMC cast member on their chat support an hour or so ago, and she told me that they are preparing Aladdin for shipment for those of you that didn't already know that. So if you haven't had your card charged already, then you should either tomorrow or early next week. I just wanna get my copy early .

I bought through DisneyStore, not DisneyMovieClub. Do you think mine is also preparing to ship?

I agree with you, but the file itself is 1080p so they can get away with it....

It's the SOURCE that it's not HD....

Again don't be surprised, Fox has shown its first Ultra HD 4K discs: They are all movies finished in 2K Resolution...

Story Book... Didn't previous Story Book versions come with a CD Of the story?

I have both titles. They are Definately NOT upscales and they have undergone remastering and even some minor restoration work was done on Return to Jafar. (There are sections where the grain field is completely frozen, a tell tale sign of retouching.) They were finished on film. The reason they look poor is because the budget was very low, they have not undergone a massive restoration like the other Disney titles, and in addition they are cropped on top and bottom. If they were not cropped they would appear to have a slightly higher resolution simply because the image would be zoomed out. Both films appear to have been finished on 16mm film vs 35mm as well. This was the standard for a lot of tv shows on that era, so it would make since that the films appear similar in quality to Anne of Green Gables, Friends, Seinfeld and the BBC Pride and Prejudice films, which were all from 16mm negatives. I think the presentation itself is actually pretty good if it weren't for the cropping. The cropping is what ruins it.

I would say so. I have ordered two diamond editions from the DS before in the past (Cinderella and The Little Mermaid), and they were both shipped out early so they would arrive on the release date. DMC tends to ship out their orders a little earlier, but your DS order should be shipped by the middle of next week.

Those were shot on 35mm film and finished on video.
