As long as we're peeving about persistence: my GoT discs don't remember subs. Every time I fire up the disc, I have to start an episode and go into the subtitles menu, find that it is always off, then select my choice (english).

This is true even if the disc had not been ejected, but I'm simply turning the player on the next day to play the next episode on the same disc.

It's lazy programming. As a software developer, I'm not being an armchair critic here.

What I was saying (I should have elaborated) is that I may watch a couple of episodes and stop in the middle of one and not resume watching until a week later. It would be nice when I pop in the disk that it rememberd where I left off in the middle of an episode.

I know it was suggested to rip the disks, but 4K discs are too large and I don't want to deal with Handbrake and compressing files. I did rip TV shows and movies that were on blu-ray since there was no resume feature. Yep, I'm lazy and I want my resume

Storage is relatively cheap these days you can rip the entire series no compression in ~2TB.

Maybe you can select in your blu-ray player that English subtitles should be selected by default? My Sony X800 player has such as setting. But unfortunately it seems to only be honored for some discs, so for some other discs I still have to select it manually.

I'm not sure why the player is not able to always auto-select the correct subtitles according to the setting in the player. Is there some "feature" needed on the blu-ray disc for the auto-select to work? Seems strange, since the player should be able to see what subtitle tracks are on the disc, and then select the one that matches the setting in the player. I.e. it should be possible to design a solution in the player SW that is independent of the disc, so it should work for all discs, right?

Any one else having issues?
I have the Sony UBP X800M2, none of the chapters froze but three separate disc did stopped playing or froze/glitched, so I had to skip or reverse to get it playing again. Season 5 or was it 6 the top menu was greyed out and I couldn't select any options, had to turn my player off then back on again to get the top menu to work right. You wouldn't think with all the audio and sub titled languages would bog down these disc, would you? It was nice to watch this show for the first time ever. Me and my wife were able to follow along together with her native language subtitles on, she really got into it except the porno scenes, LOL. Took us a week of sleepless nights to binge the series. Glad I did it this way instead of the seven year wait. Don't know how you guys kept your sanity waiting for the next season to start through the years.

So now I see it wasn't only me.

I have had a few freeze glitches on Season 3 (that is what I am up to) and if I press stop and go back it will play. Is this how something freezes on 4K because when something freezes on my Blu-ray/DVD it FREEZES and I can never play it when I try to go back and play it again.

Resume Function per my Sony UHD manual:

When playback does not start from the resume point where you last stopped playing.
- The resume point may be cleared from memory depending on the disc
– you disconnect the USB device.
– you play other content.
– you turn off the player.

And even worse I believe, if all these idiotic discs were free of BD java (or as I refer to it as BJ), they would all work with resume (so lone as a playlist with all episodes) and subtitles. It would be up to the player and memory. Same as if I stick the old Black Hawk Down Blu Ray in my playstation, it remembers where I ejected it 9 years ago. Java on discs is an abomination.

For me, it's happened maybe 3-4 times for the first time ever playing from my Sony UBP X800 Mark II. I can't recall any of my blue rays performing as this collection does. I will re-watch this again as my wife's native tongue in subtitles I could not get the English interpretation of the foreign languages, so I missed quite a lot of dialogue.

What is the reason that BD Java breaks the resume and subtitle selection functionality?

That happens with my X800M2 and with other discs sometimes too. You don't need to restart the player though, just press stop and restart the disc. I've found that if I wait a few seconds after it loads up before pressing right or left on the top menu it won't happen. But if you start trying to navigate the menu right away after loading it's more likely to happen. Just seems like a bug with the X800M2.

Glitchy disc here too, my season 4 disc 1 has a tiny scratch and froze at 3 different spots, towards the end of Ep.1, intro of Ep.2 and at the end of Ep.3.

Is this officially the most problematic release ever? I was wanting to get this eventually, but man, I feel like I'd have to do a speed watch of the entire series just to make sure I don't have any bad discs before the return window closes.

Yeah and the thing is, if you did return it, you'd have to watch your new set all over again to make sure all the discs are OK...

I have actually never had this happen before on any 4K disc I have bought. Is the studio commenting on it at all?

Encoding that many 4k discs has to have some messed up discs sadly unless there team is amazing at looking at the discs before they encode them.

You think they would do a replacement program or should have never stacked discs. This will be the last HBO 4K set I buy without knowing if the discs are stacked or not.
