Crypto currency mining has bolstered the video card market. I know one person who bought TWO DOZEN 8-11 gb video cards at a cost of over $20,000!

And as we all know a single anecdote proves everything.

Data caps suck.

My plan caps me at 999 GB per month, which for a bachelor who streams as sporadically as I do, is WAY more than adequate. Still, for a streaming fanatic, especially one with a family, that might not be enough.

Caps are imposed when there is limited capacity, usually with Copper connections. My ISP doesn't have caps.

Caps are imposed when there is limited competition.

You live in area where you have the choice of more than one broadband provider. I live in area where I have only one broadband option and they operate like the greedy monopoly that they are.

So, how about those digital purchases of yours? What and when? Show us all that love you profess to have for digital.

There was one more thing I wanted to bring up, Vilya you are right there is a lack of Competition here in the US. In the UK the Real Estate Agents Post the Broadband Speeds, and it could drop the price down 20%.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/bi...prices-20.html

Here in the US most people don't know or care about their Broadband Speed until it's too late. That is the last thing on their Priority List, if it's there at all. Broadband here in the US is pathetic, it averages around 25Mbps because they think that is High Speed and plenty for what they need. They believe all the hype with 5G Fixed Wireless, when what they need is FTTP. Google Fiber woke everybody up, but they failed. Even AT&T and Verizon were banking on 5G because upper management doesn't have a clue. Fiber is the Future Bank on it!

Movies have been bad lately, but I still buy the latest. Let's see Yellow Birds, Peppermint, Goosebumps 2, Predator, Alpha, A Simple Favor, Bad Times at the El Royale, Venom, Equalizer 2, Fallout, Crazy Rich Asians, Ant-Man Wasp, The Meg+ many more Top Movies!

That's a significant quantity, but over what time frame?

Crazy Rich Asians? A Simple Favor? Those doesn't sound like you at all, especially among those other titles. 2 out of 13 to please the wife?

Fiber to the node is as good as it gets in my little village, but yet they are now offering a 1 Gbps plan here at $140 per month. More than I am willing to pay.

Actually, internet speeds average just under 26 Mbps in the U.S. overall, but if you only look at those with broadband access, that average is 95.25 Mbps.

The global average, overall, is just 9.1 Mbps. In China, it is just 2.4 Mbps.

The internet providers have a lot of work to do if the whole world is going to be "rudely" awakened like you predict.

That’s why I said ages ago that I think things will settle on 720p. Still looks nice, not that much bandwidth. Can be upscaled on 4K tv without looking disgustingly bad. 4K streaming will be for the elitists (like us) or those that can afford it. Caps, caps caps. So glad my blurays don’t have such limiting crap.

By the way, how is Twin Peaks going?

It's been delayed. I have been too popular lately, hard to believe I know, but people keep contacting me and dropping by. When I dive into a binge marathon, I need to have no, or at least very few, interruptions.

I now anticipate starting on Tuesday once this popularity anomaly subsides.

My family and friends know not to call on movie night. . That’s my time after a hard week at work. It’s just me, my HT and my pizza. They go along with all my little traits I’m delighted to say. I need my alone time.

This is where you will insert your "it's all digital" mantra, I suspect.

All intellectual property owners want to maintain control over their content. I do not feel that feet are being dragged regarding disc delivery. I get discs delivered every week I'll have you know.

Some titles come to digital before disc, but the time difference between them is usually small. The occasional short delay doesn't faze me in the least.

For an avid movie collector like myself, the real control provided by actual tangible physical ownership is one of the greatest assets offered by physical media. I insist upon it when purchasing movies and TV shows. Having this control means much more than not having to worry about movies disappearing from a digital collection, temporarily or permanently, it means that revisionism can not occur. The version I bought on disc can not be modified in any way. The music will never change, nothing will get edited out due to political correctness mood swings, or for any other reason. The version I bought is the version that I keep.

Physical formats evole. DVD is 22 years old this year; blu-ray is 13 this year, and 4k discs will celebrate their 3rd birthday next month. We are getting a new physical format roughly every 9-10 years. The likelihood of there being an 8K format, digital or physical, seems improbable as things stand now; there's essentially no content in 8K to deliver via any method.

Technology continues to advance and we are likely going to see many marvelous innovations across every facet of our lives. There's nothing rude about it at all; these new discoveries will be amazing!
It's infuriating that it's still around.

It really makes no sense.

N64 and PS1 were new back then. People used pagers and pay phones. Let it die

It might hurt sales, but let's face it, the guy that upgrades components as soon as a new component are available does that because he "wants to" not because he "needs to" and the game will be unplayable. will things really change in a streaming world? I don't think so, the new video card could have better processing where the decompression happens slightly faster, it could have better scaling, better Heuristic Algorithms to clean up compression noise....

Plus streaming movies/Tv is a simple subject you can stream diifferent resolutions, different audio feed depending on different cappabilities. When it comes to game streming the imagination of the people that develope the games and the system are the only limits.

look man I am not alchav21 to say everything is digital and so the same I can tell the difference between a 100$ bill and a 1$ bill even though they are all money. Unless everything changes drastically * streaming will always be a lowest common denominator tech and I will be looking for the best and greatest I can afford and so it will do more harm then good..

*
- free 100Gbps satelite connection to the internet
-"local streaming" comes with it (i.e. you can play game/content without being connected to the internet)
- storage that costs less then 1$/TB

It's a local ISP called Cable Systems, I have IPTV and Internet. They just upgraded their Fiber Backbone, and offer up to a Gigabit in Speed. Like I said, if the capacity is being used up then they have to control it with the heavy users.

Have a look at this. Doesn’t sound like another option. It seems to suggest they can replace films. Talking about the merging of games, film and tv.

You don't say? Well, one can hope that you didn't.

At least the TV is still safe!

In bigger news, my pizza was YUMMY!
