Michigan will hire Doug Nussmeier as offensive coordinator to replace the fired Al Borges, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad.
Not the biggest college fan but this seems like good news, yes? Is this Doug fellow supposed to be good?

It's hard to say how good Nussmeier is because by the time he came to Alabama they were already a powerhouse and the defending national champions. He can't be any worse than Borges, that offense should have been much better with the players they had.

CBS Sports says Lane Kiffin will interview for the Alabama OC job.

Not a surprise, I think this is a good hire:

lane kiffin to interview (possibly as early as today) for ALABAMA OC position.

more info here.

there is some info (more like rumor) that Rick Neuheisel's name has come up as a potential interviewee as well. i don't know how true this is, though.

Please, no. Didn't he damage the conference enough the last time?

I wonder how good a job Vanderbilt is. Outside of Franklin's tenure the school has been historically bad, and because of their academic standards they'll never be able to compete with the top teams on a consistent level. Still, it's an SEC school and if a coach can keep them at a winning level they'd likely be able to use it as a stepping stone to a top-tier program.

Doesn't Stanford have the same academic standards you speak of?

It's a terrible job. The program's history is that of mediocrity. I suspect with Franklin gone Vandy will be back to being a 3-5 win a year program like they were before.

Vanderbilt's best player in recent memory was Jay Cutler, and they went 11-35 with him as their starter.

Yes. But Vanderbilt is in the southeast. It's harder to find athletes who are good academically in this region than it is in California. By nearly every academic measurement the southeast tends to be the least successfully educated region of the country.

When I was referring to how good a job I was more wondering how good a coach they could get. Would Clemson OC Chad Morris, Michigan State DC Pat Narduzzi, or 49ers OC Greg Roman take the job, or would they rather stay in their current jobs for another year and try to get a better job?

I don't think Chad Morris would take that job. It's a dead end job plus I listed some other factors for Morris as well in an earlier post. I think he's in Clemson another year for sure and maybe 2.

Could there be something to Morris to Texas? Would they hire an A&M guy? I know they can afford the $6 million buyout and it would get him back in Texas.

Who is going to be the quarterback next year? What are the prospects on Jim Kelly's nephew?

Jim Kelly's nephew, Chad, is an arrogant little shit. I believe he is a 4-star prospect. He has a good chance of becoming something if he gets his attitude in check. Hopefully Morris can handle him.

I think he's made for this offense. I also think he would have been the backup over Stoudt if he hadn't torn his ACL in the spring. That being said I believe you'll see them both next year. Chad can run the ball great but Cole has been in the system for 4 years and knows how to run it. Chad is a better talent but Cole has NFL bloodlines too. DeShaun Watson is an early enrollee and is going to be the man but I believe he will redshirt next year but if they will play him if blows them away. He ran a very similar system in HS and has everyone very excited. Chad Morris included. He could be the next great freshman QB.

Yeah, he certainly can talk some smack. You will need someone like that to stop the dry run against South Carolina.
