LOL. I hear you. I actually went to FSU after UGA, so as long as they're not playing each other, I can cheer for the Noles.

Recruiting, though, is such a crapshoot. Guys here in my office were going crazy over their classes on signing day (UCLA, UF, FSU, etc.) and couldn't understand why I didn't care that much.

I don't care because you never know what's going to happen. These are young kids. UGA has had top 5 classes in the last decade, and that hasn't materialized into much for us (especially last year). Then you get other teams with "bad" classes that end up having great runs.

Just my take.

In the same boat as you. I'm a firm believer that you don't know anything about a recruiting class until Year 2 in the program. If someone contributes in a big way immediately, they are something special....

Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott said Tuesday that the window for expansion by the conference is open for the next year as the conference begins negotiations for a new television deal.

Speaking on a conference call to introduce former Big 12 commissioner Kevin Weiberg as his new deputy, Scott talked about possibly adding new teams to the conference and launching a new television network.

Scott, the former head of the Women's Tennis Association, took over the conference last July. In his less than eight months on the job, he has seen growing interest from the membership over the possibility of adding teams for the first time since Arizona and Arizona State joined the conference in 1978.

"It is really over the next six to 12 months that we'll start having serious analysis and serious evaluations," Scott said.

While there has been major upheaval in conference alignments in recent years, the Pac-10 has remained stable for more than three decades. But with a new commissioner and television deals that expire following the 2011-12 academic year, the time is ripe for a fresh look at the issue.

"To me, the logic if the Pac-10 is going to think about expanding, now is our window," Scott said. "The reason being if you're going to consider a reconstruction of the conference, there's a value proposition associated with that. Given that we're about to have negotiations regarding our media rights, it makes sense that if you're going to do it, to do it when you can monetize it and get value from it commercially."

The Pac-10 isn't the only major conference looking at expansion. The Big Ten said in December that it would explore the possibility of adding a 12th team in the next 12 to 18 months. The SEC, ACC and Big 12 already have 12 schools, while the Big East has 16 teams for basketball and eight for football.

Scott said there have been "no serious discussions" with any schools. He said the primary factor in the decision will be finding schools that fit into the conference culturally and academically.

"I know that's of paramount importance to our presidents and chancellors," Scott said. "There are other economic and athletic considerations such as increased costs that would be involved, increased travel that would be involved, splitting the pie in more ways. You look at how that is offset against potentially greater revenue, potentially greater exposure into more markets, possible recruiting opportunities, the impact on media negotiations generally. There's a whole analysis you would go through in terms of cost benefit."

The conference is also looking at the possibility of starting its own television network. Scott said the priority in the new television deal will be to increase exposure and revenues.

"I always knew that there's a lot of interest in the possibility in a network," he said. "But that's not the only solution to achieve our overall goals."

Scott said the conference will undergo a rigorous evaluation of whether to launch a network in the upcoming months. Weiberg, who helped launch the Big Ten network, will play a big role in that process.

Weiberg said assuring wide distribution of a network is paramount to its success. The Big Ten Network had trouble getting on cable systems in the Midwest when it launched in August 2007 and was initially only available in about 17 million homes.

Within a year, it was available in about 75 million homes.

"Clearly for a network to be successful, you want it to be distributed as broadly as possible not only in the region but hopefully to have distribution that is national in scope," Weiberg said. "One has to think carefully about how to achieve that. It's fundamental to the economic success of such a network."

So it appears both the Big Ten and the Pac-10 will be having conference subdivisions with a conference championship game. This is great for college football and furthers my theory that college football is in the process of consolidating the conferences by making all the strong ones a bit bigger and will eventually eliminate one of the smaller ones. Now if only we can get a playoff system in place when the current BCS contract expires we really can get excited about the great changes coming to college football!

I would think the Pac 10 would definitely want to add Utah. That's pretty much a given, as they seem to fit well with the Pac 10 and add a decent sized TV market with Salt Lake City. After that it's more questionable. Colorado has been mentioned as a possibility if they were willing to leave the Big 12. BYU is also a possibility, although it's questionable if they'd want to add 2 schools from Utah. A Utah TV station reported that if Colorado were to leave the Big 12 BYU could take their spot. Boise State could be a possibility but their lack of success outside of football probably would keep them out.

Great news! You'd think OSU and PSU would fight that so they don't have to play schools twice that might show up the second time around.

It seems both the Big Ten and the Pac-10 are going to raid the Big 12. I know I heard that Iowa State is a near lock for when the Big Ten expands, and Missouri is a toss up at this point. After these expansions I think you'll see TCU headed to the Big 12 and perhaps BYU as well. Once you get past those two teams it gets a little hazy for the Big 12, I know some want Boise State but with them you basically get one sport. But having said that, Boise State's football program could bring the conference a lot of money. This is going to cause a pretty big realignment for college football, it'll make the sport better and more competitive.

I live in Iowa and have heard almost no rumors of Iowa State joining the Big 10. The Big 10 is looking to expand to big markets and Ames, Iowa doesn't fit the bill. The Big 10 already has the U of Iowa, which is by far the most popular team in the state, and thanks to that they've already got the Big 10 Network on all the main cable systems statewide. The schools I've heard as the most serious possibilities are Missouri, Pittsburgh, and Rutgers, and some wild card candidates include Cincinnati, Louisville, Syracuse, and their ideal candidate (as well as the Pac 10s), Texas, who isn't going to leave the Big 12.

I believe I heard it on CBS late during the season and it was from an 'inside source.' It could be true, and it could be BS. The same source said the only holdup with Missouri would be them wanting to continue the yearly border war rivalry with Kansas. I'm interested to see if the Big East decides to expand as well, I suspect they are already considering it.

ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia has one less contender for its starting quarterback job.

Coach Mark Richt announced Sunday that touted redshirt freshman Zach Mettenberger was kicked off the team for violating team rules.

Mettenberger threw two touchdowns in Georgia's April 10 spring game but already was facing at least a one-game suspension after being arrested on alcohol charges during spring break. The team didn't reveal if Mettenberger was involved in another incident, or if his dismissal from the team was the result of more details becoming known from his arrest.

The Bulldogs now have a two-man race for starting quarterback: redshirt freshman Aaron Murray and junior Logan Gray, who last year backed up Joe Cox during a disappointing 8-5 season.

The 18-year-old Mettenberger was arrested March 7 in Lowndes County and charged with underage consumption and possession of alcohol, possessing fake identification and disorderly conduct-obstruction. The school never made him available to comment on the charges.

"He's already matured from it," Gray said during spring practice. "Zach wishes he could take it all back. It's definitely tough ... especially going through the scrutiny."

Murray (6-foot-1, 206 pounds) and Mettenberger (6-5, 230) were top recruits. Murray, from Tampa, Fla., was rated the No. 3 quarterback in the nation by Scout.com and Rivals.com and was a Parade magazine All-America pick. Mettenberger, from nearby Oconee County, was rated the No. 11 quarterback in the nation by Rivals.

Both quarterbacks graduated from high school early to get in extra work with the Bulldogs, knowing they would likely be battling each other to replace Cox after his lone season as the starter.

Now, it's Murray vs. Gray, who has an edge in experience but has never been looked at as the long-term solution at quarterback. He has appeared in 25 games, but much of that time came on special teams; he has more yards on punt returns than passes.

In 2009, Gray completed 5 of 12 passes for 31 yards and two interceptions. He considered a position change after the season before opting to compete with Mettenberger and Murray for the starting job.

In the spring game, Mettenberger completed six of 10 passes for 150 yards, including touchdowns of 24 and 39 yards. Gray was 10 of 17 passes for 132 yards and one TD. Murray was the least impressive of the three, connecting on 10 of 22 for 96 yards with one interception.

"They have played well all spring," Richt said after the game. "They have been hitting their targets. They have had few interceptions and few bad decisions. It has been good competition. I feel we have players who can get it done."

Now, the Bulldogs have one less.

O_V_N, how do you feel about this? What a waste of talent is what I say, a damn shame.

Reggie Bush settled with Lloyd Lake in the civil case over whether Bush owed Lake money for reneging on a deal to sign with Lake for a management deal in exchange for housing for his parents. If Bush hadn't settled and been deposed the NCAA could have potentially gotten a hold of the deposition and sanctioned USC's football team and taken away Bush's Heisman but now it appears likely the USC or Bush won't be punished, even though there's plenty of evidence that Bush and his family were receiving illegal benefits while in college.

What are you implying? You don't think USC is running a clean program?

I guess the Hopefully is for owning the ACC... cause Yow already resigned at UMCP even though the deal isn't finalized at NC State.

How about my boy Trevor Booker being taken a few spots ahead of Vasquez Sadly, how about my QB getting drafted at #26 by the Rockies I think he'll be leaving after the CWS.

Yeah, Parker is as good as gone. He's not going to be able to turn down the $2 million or so he's offered. For some reason the Rockies love drafting college quarterbacks. In addition to Parker they drafted NC State QB Russell Wilson in the fourth round, although he is going to keep playing football. Their best player in franchise history, Todd Helton, was Peyton Manning's backup at Tennessee. Their current left fielder Seth Smith, was Eli Manning's backup at Ole Miss. Matt Holliday signed a scholarship at Oklahoma State as a quarterback but instead chose baseball. They even drafted Michael Vick in 2000, even though he never played high school baseball (he never signed).

Its a real shame Kyle Parker looked like he had such talent every game I saw him in... And while I was hoping he'd lose to MD every time they met I still was excited to see his potential

I got to see 5 of their games and while some he was average you saw the potential.

On my hand, it's a shame to see Parker leave Clemson because he has a lot of potential at the quarterback position. It's really a downer for Clemson fans as well, but I won't miss having to play that kid. He gutted our secondary last year!

Parker's a Junior in Baseball (have to be for the draft), but was going to be a sophmore in the fall for football. We have Taj Boyd waiting in the wings, with TONS of potential, but he's raw and missed his senior year due to knee surgery. Parker really could be something in football if he stays. $2M now is tough to turn away though. We lost Roscoe Crosby, WR (bust) to the baseball draft as well a couple years ago.

If he would stay at Clemson, he certainly has all the tools to make it at the next level and could potentially earn a lot more than $2 million in his first NFL contract. Obviously this is his choice, but if I were him I'd keep playing football. (As football is my number one sport) But if likes playing baseball more, then more power to him and I wish him lots of success.
