Barbie or Greta Gerwig winning would be a travesty. We already had Coda winning BP recently, we don't need another one.

This is a no brainer. Killers or Oppenheimer are the obvious candidates and let's see how Napoleon turns out. Anything else is just ludicrous.

Barbie >>>>>> Killers & Oppenheimer combined.

Hell there are so many deserving movies better than Killers and Oppenheimer. That these 2 films will be in conversation for best of the year is what's ludicrous sadly.

Travesties is Hollywood's middle name.

Ludicrous is a word that keeps coming up. And that happens to be Hollywood's second middle name.

Given the way the Academy has thrown curveballs in recent years, anything is possible.

Just look at some of the Best Picture winners from the past few years: "Moonlight", "Green Book", "Parasite", "Nomadland", "CODA", and "Everything Everywhere All At Once".

None of those were considered early favorites to win Best Picture. As in when their years started and everyone was betting all throughout the year what big movie from some big director would be the sweeper the next Oscars. It keeps winding up being these little out of the way films.

In the early 2000s, these old white men 'legend' directors were still winning quite a lot: Steven Soderbergh, Ron Howard, Roman Polanski, Peter Jackson, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, and the Coen Brothers.

But, in more recent years, that hasn't been happening.

Honestly, I wouldn't be counting my "Oppenheimer" OR my "Killers of the Flower Moon" Oscars, just yet.

They could win, sure. But there also could be some last-minute late season new favorite, where they go for some little film like "All of Us Strangers" or something like that. It's not beyond the realm of possibilities...

As much as I loathe to admit it, I think "Oppenheimer" has a better chance at consideration than "Flower Moon" does, but I'm still not ready to count it out, yet.

Further into awards season, we'll get a better gauge of what the new favorites are.

It might well be a slow, steady earner if they just leave it out there for a few more weeks. This is a film that may thrive on word of mouth.

Then, if they can at least get close enough to recouping a lot of its budget, then between the AppleTV subscription increase and the expected spike in Streaming subscriptions when it gets uploaded on there, and also potential physical media releases down the road, it might even eventually break even and or turn a very modest profit down the line.

Of course, if it does become an awards heavyweight contender, that will increase interest in it, as well.

Killers of the Flower Moon winning best picture would be a "tragedy"? Lol. No. Actual bad choices have happened in the history of the Oscars.

I'd like to hear which films are so much better and deserve to win this year. Barbie, however, is certainly not one of them. It was quite funny but it was also a mess as a film. Tried to do too much. I thought the same about last year's winner.

I haven't seen Coda or Nomadland, but the only curveball in recent years was Green Book. I don't think anyone was happy that won. Moonlight wouldn't have been noteworthy if it won the first time. Parasite and Everything Everywhere were the favourites I think. Certainly there was buzz around Parasite for months.

Enough of them, thanks for asking. I don't think the ones i didn't saw will change my mind about my favourites for this year. Oppenheimer and Killers set the bar too high, the only i consider to be at that level its Napoleon.

I didn't watch Pretty things but i didn't like the trailer, seems like a weird Jean-Paul Jeunet movie but i will see when possible. I liked Past Lives a lot and i thought it was much better than Barbie. Anatomy of a Fall is not that good. American Fiction i didn't watch but didn't like the trailer but i will see.

Is there more i forgot?

Green Book was an extremely well made and entertaining film that deserved any awards it received.

According to Wiki there have already been over 270 films released so far this year.

I see OPPENHEIMER winning a ton of Oscars including best picture. KOTFM will get a ton of nominations with only Lilly Gladstone a possible favorite to win.

Probably about as many movies as the voters who actually decide Best Picture see. You don't really have to see the films to be savvy enough to know which ones are generating Oscar buzz and which ones aren't.

I can see "Killers" being this year's 'Gangs of New York' or 'The Irishman', getting tons of nominations and winning little to nothing, simply because that is already starting to be the common narrative/trend, sadly.

But, I can also see "Oppenheimer" becoming this year's "1917" or "The Power of the Dog" or "The Social Network", too. An early favorite that loses steam later, winning a few tech awards or a screenplay or something. I certainly could be wrong.

"Poor Things" got a surprising amount of praise when it hit the Venice and Toronto festivals, but it has died down since, and we'll have to see if it comes back and how audiences outside of critics and festivals respond to it, too. After Cannes, "Killers" was all the rage, but in mainstream release, the reactions are quite different.

There still could be some little, indie, international people drama, like "Anatomy of a Fall" (Palme d'Or winner), "The Zone of Interest", or "All of Us Strangers" or something like that that comes in and winds up stealing the thunder late in the game.

And, I'm not one of the people ready to dismiss "Barbie" being a triumphant sweeper, just yet. This could be the year that the Academy decides that good vibes and girl power is just what the world needs. It could happen.

And, no, "Parasite" wasn't the favorite. Originally, "The Irishman" was thought to be the favorite until awards season actually started, and then it became "1917" and Sam Mendes. "Parasite" had always been the favorite for Best International Feature, but I don't think anyone saw it winning Best Picture, TOO. Right up to Oscar night, everyone thought Sam Mendes (for Director) and "1917" were going to triumph (people had already discarded any notions of 'The Irishman' winning anything at that point, which is exactly what happened).

Eh, not when you had The Favourite and Roma as competition. It just seems much more conventional and "been there, done that" type of filmmaking. It's the kind of film that the majority found good enough to earn the points it needed to win. Maybe the others I mentioned were too divisive...

Well I'm glad they didn't make the wrong choice two years in a row. 1917 winning over Parasite would be ridiculous.

I didn't see Roma but I also really enjoyed The Favourite. Both of those films however receive lower overall ratings on IMDB. Green Book also has 2-3X as many votes.
