I think a lot of people like the di/bi-poles(RC-R) because they are less directional, however, I have never noticed any directionality from my C-100s, their imaging is great and I often think there are sound directly behind me ....

(2) C-300 (1) C-C100 (2) C-R100 Plus shipping came to $969.00. Now that's $460 more then I paid but since they are hard to find you will have to pay a premium. |

Or perhaps call and get them to discount the shipping. That does seem high. However when I had the local dealer price me out the CF-50s and CC-10 it was about $900 with tax.
That said, I paid $517 for my system, but then I bought it right when they got discontiued. |

As Callas pointed out RCR would technically be the better choice but Those RC-10 speaker offers such good imaging that i think you be more than satisfied with them if price is an issue plus if you can get them in rosenut that would be aplus for ya.
RCR only come in Black. I experience the same thing as Callas when watching movies in 5.1 you really feel at times that you have back surrounds even with C-100. |

two things...totally off topic, but what the hay...
1) i've recently been on an instrumental music kick. in college i was really into bands like godspeed you black emperor and mogwai, but over the years i haven't kept up with the indie/post rock/whatever the crap you want to call it scene. anyhoo, i recently discovered an instrumental band...explosions in the sky...friggin awesome to sit back and listen to. i was blaring the c500s today while getting ready today for work. great stuff... 2) i'm really considering possibly downsizing. i've come to the realization that why do i need tower speakers if they're being crossed over at 80hz? i've got two subs for the everything below 80hz. i'm going to be buying some pretty nice bookshelves to experiment. i also really like the much more flexible placement options, as well as the probable imaging improvement. i don't know for sure if i'll be replacing the c500s yet. i'm also planning a two channel set up for a workout/relax room upstairs so i could move the bookshelves up there if they don't work out in the ht. the rc 10s have my eye, but the scarcity of centers to match rather scare me away. the psb b6's look like they'd be an excellent choice. but i really think i'll end up w/ some axiom m3s or m22s. i almost bought some m3s off of ebay last night, but i think the m22s would be a better choice. this will probably be a long and drawn out upgrade process, but it gives me something to look forward to. we all need that... |

in terms of towers, in a purely HT application yes a 2-way bookshelf speaker can work just great, it seperates the mid and highs and lets the real work get handled by the sub. For 2-channel music typically a 2.5 or 3 way speaker works best because there is more seperation of the frequency ranges. I believe the C-500s are 2.5 way speakers. There will still be better mid-range detail coming from the 2.5 or 3 way towers for HT tho... In terms of speakers I would suggest PSB B6, Monitor Audio RX2, Axiom M22, B&W 685, And the real winner Dynaudio Excite X16 $1600 or the Dynaudio Focus 110 $1400 Try this X16 and read below one for each speaker from Dynaudio Quote:

![]() The RC-10 is a wonderful speaker, no question. Having owned a pair myself for a few years, I can attest to the quality of their imaging and depth. However, for surround use, I would only consider using them as surround backs in a 7.1 setup (direct radiating), rather than as side surrounds in a 7.1 setup or as the only rears in a 5.1 setup. For that would I highly recommend going with the RC-R's. I say that confidently for a few reasons. First, the addition of mid-ranges to both sides of the speaker introduces superior fullness and natural warmth to the rear sound field. The sheer variety of settings (bipole, dipole, direct, output control) and numerous placement options (on-wall, on a shelf, in tight places, etc.) make them far more versatile for any environment. They're priced comparably to the RC-10's ($400 or less for a pair, though you could probably find the RC-10's a little cheaper) and are half the weight (14 lbs vs 28 lbs). And the use of foam port plugs is a non-issue if you're wall mounting, so the sound quality isn't diminished in any way. For my money, I would choose the RC-R's any day. (Hopefully that didn't sound too much like a commercial...) ![]() Last edited by Bluray_ne1; 02-17-2010 at 08:03 PM. |

Today i received my RC-50's but when i hooked them up to my Pioneer Elite I wasn't getting my 6.5 woofers to respond. I have the wires hooked up to the bottom set up inputs. am i doing something wrong? I have banana plugs going into the receiver and then just naked wiring to the speaker. I wasn't able to mess with them for too long since i had to work tonight. any info would be great
