I've quite enjoyed all the doom and gloom physical media articles in light of the Samsung news

"“Some devices, such as DVD/Blu-ray players, are in the declining phase of their product life cycle as streaming devices gain prominence,” reads Nielsen’s Q2 2018 report, adding that only 66 percent of TV watching households have one now, compared to 72 percent the year before. Nielsen also says the average US adult spends just 5 minutes a day — by far the least of any screen activity — using a Blu-ray or DVD player."

I quite enjoyed Filmstruck closing down. Sorry. I will piss myself with laughter when the replacement closes down. It’s a little silly to love older films and not be fully behind disc. You will learn the hard way.

I think the market is wide open for a High End Streaming Device, and people that want a 4K Player should consider a Panasonic or Sony they have good Streaming Apps. So you should have the best of both worlds.

Wrong market. High end and streaming just don’t go together.

Where did you read that iTunes will be a available on Samsung televisions in the future Steedeel? Might be time for me to review the owners thread for mine in the AVS forum.

Scattered all over the internet. It was first announced at CES. All the other tv makes are getting AirPlay 2. Samsung has the storefront AND AirPlay 2. Older Samsung models (from 2017 I think) will be getting it via a firmware update.

so the average person watches a movie on disc for just 5 minutes per day? Does that even make sense... at all?

The Criterion Channel coming in March. $89 a year is a steal considering what their discs cost even during the sales. I own my favs even when they were mainstays on Hulu and filmstruck.

Plus Criterion may be tied into the new Warner service.

You're just mad no one gives a shit about letting the UK get the good streaming apps

As much as I prefer physical media, I have never wished ill outcomes for those that have different preferences.

When Filmstruck closed, I said that I was sorry to hear about it. When the new Criterion service was recently announced, I was glad to see it resurrected.

With UV closing, I posted in the UV thread that I hoped that the transition from UV was a smooth one. I said there, and here as well, that I do not want anyone to lose the content that they have purchased.

Sure, I wish more people valued physical media like I do, but I want them to make that choice because they see (and hear) the benefits of it, not because it is their only choice. A product, or service, should stand upon its merits, not rely upon a lack of competition. As much as I love movies and my method of acquiring them, I value freedom of choice more.

I’m not sure what apps you are referring to. We have Netflix, BBC, Sky Store, Now tv, Itunes, Amazon, we are getting Apple’s streaming service, Disney’s, Universals, we have Shudder, BFI, etc..

If you mean Vudu, you know the answer to that already. I’m a disc guy to the end. If you mean Hulu, we get that content via other channels, if you mean HBO, we get that via Sky Atlantic.

As usual, you are talking out of your ass imo.

By the way, Criterion is a steal because it wont be the same excellent quality (imo) when steamed, that’s kind of the point

26 films, 3 tv series. Which is 29 more than you.

I already had priority blurays on my list, otherwise it would have been a few more. That number should go up to around 50 by the end of th3 year.

Dynamo of Eternia has 104 4K films and 2 4K TV series in his collection (that he has listed).

The problem is that streaming's merits can change, even for the content people have already purchased. There's uncertainty in whether digital titles will continue to be available. I want people to be aware of the risks, but most people never even consider them.

I don't want anyone to lose content either but with streaming it is extremely likely that people will. I'd rather they realize that sooner than later.

I think he was poking disc fans with a small stick knowing that someone here would react. And that someone was you. You were the one who escalated it with the "talking out of your a.." comment.

I pointed it out to remind you that you behave no better than those you yourself criticize.
