I didn't realize they had shot in Tunisia! Interesting. I'm sorry we misled you

Can also read where Terance Stamp said all his scenes were done solo with green screen and it was the worst filming experience he has ever had.

I am so glad that JJ Abram's loves practical effects A New Hope to me looks like it newer than The Phantom Menace, most CGI effects age like garbage.

weren't all of his scene onboard a space ship surrounded by aliens and robots?

fairly certain those scenes will be done with green screen in the new movie too.

No he was the chancellor, most of his scenes were with Portman or should have been but she was never there in front of him. As for the new movie the ships were built for the most part. They Built the Falcon and Xwings that much has been spoiled in pictures.

Of course, his shots mostly on floating landing platform and in the massive senate hall. I'm referring to the scenes in Tattooine. Their approach for The Phantom Menace was physical practical effects first, then CGI when it's not possible. That is similar to what they're doing with The Force Awakens, but you can expect less green screens because of the settings and locations, I don't think there will be scenes on Coruscant.

Those leaked photos for The Force Awakens also built partially and probably has areas with green or blue covers. They're called CGI set extensions, where the sets are partially built and later completed in post. It's used in almost any movies with no real life sets/props now. It's not really new, matte paintings from the original trilogy was basically the same concept.

While Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith may have gone overboard with CGI (clonetroopers, which is the part that The Force Awakens is doing it right), the VFX shot count in sci-fi/fantasy movies today is much more than what they used in The Phantom Menace. Being pioneers in so many areas (John Knoll had to write many little programs to solve many issues which is now very easy to do), some shots may not stand the test of time, but pretty much of it holds pretty well.

The Thrawn trilogy has nothing to do with this film.

What's wrong with Coruscant? I'd love to see it at least once in the new trilogy.

JJ also uses *extensive* CG. His use of practical is just the best tool for the best job. So he will use both. But all the ships will be CG once they leave the ground.

His STAR TREK films had as much or more CG as a Marvel film.

What you don't realize is that CG tech has come a long way in the 15+ years since Phantom Menace. If that prequels were done with today's technology there would be a lot less complaints about things looking "fake", other than needless nitpicks.

Coruscant is still canon because it's depicted in the Prequel Trilogy, Clone Wars TV series, and post-Legacy novels.

Kathleen Kennedy Gives an Update on The Force Awakens Production

Lucasfilm President and The Force Awakens producer Kathleen Kennedy chatted with the BBC during 'Star Wars Celebration' last weekend, where she gave an update on the status of the production. She told the BBC.

"JJ [Abrams, the director] is editing the third act as we speak. We'll probably take a look at the film early summer. We've been working on effects as we've been moving along. We'll score the movie a little bit in June, and then throughout the summer. So it'll be a process as it comes together. But everything I've seen has been fantastic. I mean it just gets better and better and better as it all comes together."

She also discussed the casting process, specifically about finding the film's leads Daisy Ridley (Rey) and John Boyega (Finn), saying,

"Daisy Ridley was a product of a massive search that we went on for months and months and months. But when she came into the room I would say almost instantaneously she just lit up and was so obviously the right person that we were looking for. She really claimed the role.

And John Boyega was somebody we'd known of because of Attack the Block. And we'd been sort of putting him on the top of our list right from the beginning. But, then again, we went on a massive search just to see who was out there, and we kept coming back to realizing that John would be the perfect Finn."

During the big kick off The Force Awakens preview panel on Thursday at Celebration, Kennedy promised that we would be seeing more strong female roles in the new Star Wars films. She expanded on this to the BBC saying,

"We're putting women in strong roles. We're just changing things up a bit so that the characters inside the Star Wars universe reflect the audience. And that's what I think in general most movies should do, and why not Star Wars."

We've already seen some evidence of this in the casting of Ridley as well as Gwendoline Christie and Lupita Nyong'o in The Force Awakens, and the casting of Oscar nominee Felicity Jones in the first Star Wars Anthology film Rogue One And, for one, couldn't be happier that Kennedy and Lucasfilm are taking this approach. I think she nailed it in her answer, Star Wars should reflect its audience and the world around it. This way more people will become fans, which just means more people to share our passion with. And that can only be a good thing.

True, but the two movies never felt sterile the same way the prequels did.

Combine BB-8 with something like Amazon Echo, so it does what you tell it to, and it'll be:

So, we are going to have these strong female characters as in pretty much every animated Disney film these days? Princess Leia was a strong female character, to say the least.

So, they want every human being to become a SW fan? Great.

Gotta love Disney.

Sorry, but I much rather have a great natural story, not one that is shaped so that as many people as possible love it. Don't want to be Johnny Rain Cloud here, but Disney pisses me off. I am not looking forward to their almost bare bonus BD releases. The original trailer in HD, and sneak previews of The Beauty and the Beast 5: Now even more beautiful and beastlier.
