I agree that FVJ is the best of the new line offerings and it was a really fun theater experience.

At the time, I probably ranked FVJ as somewhere in the middle of the pack of Friday movies. For me, it hasn't aged well...at all. It's become hard for me to watch. It's so full of early 00's style and pop culture references in a way that's off putting to me. I don't get that feeling from most of the other Friday movies with the exception of maybe VII and VIII which were so late 80's it was painful.

The blatant Jay and Silent Bob ripoff characters are the worst for me in FVJ. It's hard for me to get past them and how much they drag the film down. May as well just had them say Snootchie Boochies.

I hate this douche.

I believe it's strongly suggested in Crystal Lake Memories that he was the one at New Line who most strongly advocated for replacing Kane Hodder in FvJ.

You could tell that Kane was crushed by it and still is to this day.

...I loathe this man.

I thought it was director Ronny Yu who insisted on not going with Kane and finding somebody with more sympathetic eyes? And I think Kirzinger ended up being pretty much the worst Jason. The guy was so slow and stiff.

Why are folks so attached to Kane Hodder's portrayal of Jason? The franchise was past its prime by the time he took up the machete and none of the four films that he appeared in are particularly beloved.

Also - does the Freddy vs Jason segment in Crystal Lake Memories cover a lot of the same ground as the one in Never Sleep Again?

Ronny Yu and one of the New Line execs both said he had nothing to do with the decision to replace Kane.

...he basically didn't really care who played Jason.

Interesting, I do have the Crystal Lake Memories set on DVD. Forgot that Ronny and New Line say he had nothing to do with it. I could have sworn I read something back in the day about Ronny wanted an actor with real sympathy in his eyes behind the mask.

I was never a Kane fan. I jumped with joy when they finally replaced him. Brooker and more so White are my favorites by a country mile

At the risk of being a heretic on the subject... Hodder is a stuntman under 20 pounds of latex, not an actor. He's not the only guy in the world who can "look intimidating while walking".

I didn't so much dislike Kane as Jason...but he never had the best movies to play Jason in. He came in on 7....which showed signs of the late 80's like someone else suggested. He did solid, but the movie overall was off the charts. We all know what happened with 8, GTH and Jason X.... While he did good, he was based in not so great films. I know the remake isn't much liked, but I certainly thought Mears fit the bill of a modern day Jason. Yes, this and that about how he played Jason....but the 2009 Jason felt the right mold of classic Jason in mere presence and intimidation. Kane just felt like a tank.

You'd never say that to Kane's face.

One thing really has nothing to do with the other.

...I don't think you can say Kane was responsible for bad scripts, bad directors and bad stories.

I would argue that he gave Jason more personality in subtle ways than any other actor who donned the mask.

Plus he just cares so damn much about the character.

I really dig that.

All the actors who preceded him were just in it for a paycheck.

Yeah it does. Sit there and tell me that horrible acting and writing of 8 doesn't take away from his performance. The heroes are only as good as villain is. It's writing 101. When the cast is acting a fool of late 80's tropes and idiocy....it's hard to take Jason seriously. So...I disagree with you. The Jasons 1-4 and 6 had better surroundings and a cast to dissect than 7,8, GTH and X....

I've been watching the Friday the 13th series as of late, I'm about to start Jason takes Manhattan tonight and I can totally get why people love Kane as Jason, part 7 wasn't the greatest Friday film but he really did shine as the character. Also his look in 7 was pretty dope. The only two Jason's I liked better then Kane was (C.J. Graham)Jason Lives and (Richard Brooker)Part 3.

I'm saying that Kane had nothing to do with the bad acting, bad writing and/or bad stories of the sequels he was in.

...he could only control his performance as Jason.

Now this....I do agree with! See I felt Kane deserved a better movie to excel as Jason. When Freddy vs Jason was taken from him, I thought he was robbed of finally playing the Jason he wanted to play.
