With ILM doing the CGI I can't imagine why they need prosthetics.

Davy Jones is now 9 years old in technology BTW.

That's the only reason I thought of, that she's going to be fantastical character, along similar lines, but I thought with such an amazing face, it's a shame they're going to be obscure it? Bill Nighy was still leading the performance with his eyes and mouth, you knew who was behind the tentacles!

Caught the trailer in IMAX 3-D today before Avengers:AoU.

I don't think I'll go see this in 3-D. I really hate the 3-D picture pop-out book look. Too bad, no cinemas in my town show movies in 2-D on the biggest screens.

I don't want to start a 3-D debate, but isn't anyone else bothered that it makes the screen size so much smaller?
The previews in 2-D looked enormous. Then you get the SW trailer, and the feature, and the screen looks so puny.

In all seriousness though it's awesome how much of the sets have actually been physically built.

Too much blue & green screen is never good thing imo.

THe big guy in the middle reminds me if Bossk let himself go when his bounty hunting days went south. The suit, the hands, the face isn't right but maybe Trandoshans(I think) come in different sizes and shapes.

Well, for starters her character is only about 3.5 feet tall. She's standing in the trailer handing the light saber to leia. Pause the frames and look in the upper right corner to see her head.

One of my friends did something clever: she kept some of the RealD glasses you get whenever you buy a ticket for a 3D show and managed to combine 2 eye glasses with the same polarization into the same pair of glasses. So, if she wants to watch these 3D film presentations in 2D, she can use her own home made pair and watch a 3D presentation in 2D.

As for the green screen/CGI debate - I was amazed to see that BB-8 was a practical design. I have faith that they included a healthy portion of practical effects whenever possible and feasible.

She looks great. Really loving the design of this costume, and we all know she can kick ass on screen if they give her the chance.

Thanks. I didn't know that was her. It makes sense now, she's a tiny CGI Jar-Jar ...

ILM still ended up replacing the eyes and mouth of Nighy, he is entirely CG from head to toe.

With Lupita being coached by Gollum/Kong/Caesar himself, Andy Serkis, I have faith it will be awesome. Undoubtedly her character is something that could not be realistically portrayed with makeup.

I hope so. Though it's not that I really want different environments for the planets, but just it seems too fan-service that they're using something familiar to two new different planet. (And you're no Solo )

Not necessarily, but in a sci-fi that has regular interplanetary space travels it is quite important to have single-biome. As a storyteller you don't want to bother audience with guessing where the scene is taking place every time. We might not have this problem, but after 6 movies for casual audience they might get confused. Again I don't really want it, just worried they making the movie just to please the fan instead of really to tell a story. And so far the fans are really pleased!

At least it has different atmosphere, reddish and dark. I never thought of it to look like Tattooine until you mentioned it.

Well I hope the movie itself will be good. Can't wait.

Sorry to come back with planets again. Someone has suggested some interesting ones in another forum.

Crystal planet
Bone planet
Planet with inverted gravity
Planet with rapidly alternating day and night cycles
Ring world orbiting a gas giant

It's a sci-fi fantasy. Set in a galaxy, travels around, to the center and back to the outer rim. I want this to be good, but I hope they're not putting everything familiar just to please the fans.

End rant.
