During this time I have seen the movie business change like the weather, that is, wet seasons and dry seasons. Right now we are in a dry season. As to TV and size. The TV will be around a long time and get larger in screen size. All IMHO.
Thanks. What are your feelings on AR as a potential option for large screen viewing? I feel there are many obstacles to overcome like how prescriptions would work, how people with poor eyesight would use them, audio options etc..
I do think there is a chance they could be mainstream though. Unlike other stuff like 3D, you can still see your surroundings.

For me, none. There is no sub for a real, large space which requires a large screen and sound system. My Yamaha CX-A5100 has a lot of pre-programed concert halls available in its DSP and many are very good but I never believe for a μsec that I am in one of halls. I am the same way about 3D.

At work we had a fair size auditorium and we installed a Hughes/JVC DILA projector using a large screen. I used 3 large commercial JBL (THX) speakers for the fronts, 2 JBL (THX) sub-woofers and 6 JBL (THX) surround speakers. The experience of watching DVD's there beat all home theaters I have been in by a wide margin and I have been in some pricey places. Size does matter

Thanks for that. Nothing can beat HT.

Eh, I can already have pretty much the screen size I like. In the past year I've moved into a house and a 65" should be more than enough for the smallish living room and the unattached garage will be a perfect space for both a 120" projection screen and one or two sports TVs.

The garage TVs will be the only ones where I might feel like I had to compromise a bit. I'm going to be pouring a lot of cash into that space and as much as I'd like two 75"+ I don't know that I can justify it.

As for VR/AR generally, I'm skeptical of but also intrigued by goggle tech.

It's hard right now for me to imagine every wanting to strap a headset on for hours at a time but who knows what the future might bring.

No, I mean glasses rather than a headset.

I would imagine that packing VR/AR into glasses is a ways away but if they can figure some way to work all that tech into a comfortable pair of glasses (that can accommodate astigmatism) then color me a little less skeptical and a little more intrigued.

14.2 million Americans over 40 have that (I have it) so Apple would have to find a solution there. Everyone can use a tv, smartphone, tablet (with accessibility options) everyone will need to be able to use AR if it’s going to be the next computing platform. Apple and others would have to work with opticians.

My Astigmatism is in my left eye, -4.00. Not great!

I say no to AR for the Average Consumer, that's one of the major items that failed 3D wearing glasses. True HT will survive, but it will be a niche market. You have to have the space and the deep pockets. Now a versatile Media Room, that's a different story. It will depend on what people want, and what will sell homes. The Builders of my last two homes had Structured Cat5 and Coax, but Wireless 5G will influence these Builders and the Wiring they use.

He buys disc, you do not, therefore he supports this site, you do not. Don't like his post, put him on your ignore list and you will not see any of his post.

Will point it out again, this site rules say: If you do not support Blu-ray then you are not welcome here.

Not sure who blu Ray is, did you mean Blu-ray? After all, that name was officially released on February 19, 2002 so by now a supporter should know how to spell it.

Sick burn Wendell

Also, about the site rules you mentioned....there is an entire section on this forum dedicated to digital streaming.

Also, the female celebrity section/threads are pretty creepy and embarrassing. But hey, as long as they support Blu Ray amirite?

What’s creepy about admiring the female form? All straight men are programmed to find woman attractive. Unless you are talking about specific comments?

Of course the guy that's afraid of progress has no problem with objectifying women as sex objects

it’s the way we are made. Show me a man that doesn’t find looking at a shapely woman a pleasant experience? As long as you stop at just looking and don’t overstep boundaries, I don’t see the issue. Woman ogle men all the time, it’s the way the world spins. Stop being such a (imo) snowflake.

I’m anyways sceptical of new members at this stage of Blu-ray’s life to be honest. I suspect people who join now probably just want to bang the digital (rather poor sounding) drum or are on the wind up.

It would also make discs obsolete as the Augmented reality glasses are 5G and WiFi focussed. It will utilise digital services such as Netflix, Hulu etc..

That scenario (more likely than people think) would give us useless coasters. Yet another reason to despise digital.
AR will be as big of a failure as VR.

This is all your sick delusions. How could someone invite people over to watch the big game with ****ing glasses?
