Once again, thank you
I'm not sure, but were the posts above saying the theatrical subtitles (when Elvish is spoken etc) were redone on the UK edition? I'm not saying thats a deal breaker, but in one way, they are part of the film imo and shouldnt be touched,
Are those untouched on the US version?

I watch both. There are still some things I like about the theatrical version compared to the EE, but I prefer the lower resolution DVD EE to the darkened, tinted BD version.

No the subtitles are the same font on all the Blu-ray versions. But MacEachaidh is right, they're not the same as the ones which you saw on the R1 DVDs.

Bought this at Best Buy, and with a combination of a Reward Zone Certificate and Amazon's price match, It was an epic amount of savings.

Timing isn't that great for me i just spent my 'play money' for the month, lol. I have the really nice DVD Box/Box set, though (https://www.blu-ray.com/dvd/The-Lord...ogy-DVD/23746/)so I don't feel too bad.

Gonna have to pass for now. (Besides, I found myself getting a bit anxious and bored when I tried to make it all the way through the extended editions of the films. Just too long for a movie. Too long...

These movies could never be too long, at least for me. And now I have them on Blu-ray. So, so excited to have a marathon.

Peter Jackson said at CC that he is thinking of adding a few more minutes to the LOTR EE versions when the entire 6 film box set comes out.

Hopefully he doesn't replace Gandalf with an CGI monkey and add a dance number when Frodo and Gollum fight for the ring at Mount Doom.

I wonder if he'll change some of the flashback scenes to match the corresponding ones he filmed for The Hobbit trilogy.

I should think so. Even before they made The Hobbit he wasn't happy with the opening prologue of FOTR anyway because the Gollum they used is different from the final design, now they might as well kill two birds with one stone and put Martin Freeman in there too. Jackson also says in the commentary for Two Towers how disappointed he is with the Warg CG, so that's probably a contender too.

It'd be cool if he looked at re-editing a few bits here and there, I could do without Gimli's flatulence and the pre-emptive reveal of the Dead Army in ROTK.

And the transfers hold up really well with excellent audio.

Are there any grabs somewhere comparing them? Thanks

Oh. I was going to ask why you didn't just get the US release, until I realised it doesn't have French language or subs.

But speaking of that, why on earth does the US release have Portuguese? I mean no slight of the Portuguese, but it's not a major language of the US, is it? Or is that edition also sold into Brazil, maybe?

Would I really notice the difference between PAL and NTSC on the DVDs extras discs (I mean, wouldnt it change the pitch of the music, voices etc?)

I dont mind not having French audio, but it's useful when you dont understand the scene correctly. it's not an easy film to understand with very low & mumble voices but I'm trying my best. I just re-watch them after that to be sure i've understood everything.

After careful consideration (and looking at pictures), I've decided to go with the Blu Rays - the outer box does look quite nice and has a similar look to the DVD sets

Yeah, absolutely fair enough, mate. I wasn't questioning you; I'm just often surprised when the supplementary languages of a release don't seem to match its target audience. I would have thought (am I naive?) that North American releases would have French and Spanish, pretty much as standard.

No because that content was shot on 50 or 60Hz video, which can be translated to PAL without speedup. It's actual 24fps content that's the problem, hence the warbly pitch-correction on the movies on the PAL EE DVDs.
