Lolita -- something happened at 7th St. and Central in Phoenix. Or Psycho, Marion Crane worked in Phoenix and absconded with $40K. Or Bus Stop -- the rodeo was in Phoenix. ...

Saw it in the theatre and enjoyed it. Glad there were rumors since they stopped me from importing the UK blu.

I'm just wondering how on earth this can be screened in a theater if its 10 hours long? Was there a shortened or abridged version?
To be honest, I don't know for certain how theatres projected Shoah. I know that there was never a shortened or abridged version, and I also know that some theatres showed it all the way through ... but whether others may have shown it with breaks or intermissions, I can't honestly say.

For me, one of the key benefits of having it on blu-ray is that one can pause it and not worry about missing anything. The movie is compelling, and it also builds to a cumulative effect. I have seen it twice, and both times in one long setting, with bathroom and food breaks along the way.

What has been the turnaround time on some of these newer releases?
Is this 2-3 years out or earlier?

Could it be Keisuke Kinoshita's Phoenix (1947)?

I don't have my copy with me, but I recall it being divided into parts. I've seen other long films that were broken into parts (by the director or the theater) and each part was given a separate showing in order to make projecting it cost-effective. When I saw Gance's Napoléon at a theater, its six-hour run time was broken into two showings, each with its own admission.

You'd hafta think they did something similar with Shoah's 9.5 hours. That might be why I watched it over three nights.

The clue could be for something with Joaquin or River Phoenix.

The Kinoshita is on their Hulu channel, so that's also a possibility, but I think it's the Petzold because of the phantom page and rumors.

Although maybe a double clue? Hmmm ...

Pretty quiet sale for me as I also treated myself to the complete Twin Peaks and a couple of Twilight Time titles.

Picked up:

Breaker Morant
Throne of Blood
Mullholland Drive
In Cold Blood
The Night of the Hunter

Mullholland Drive is a bit of an experiment. I recently posted that I did not care for it the only time I saw it when it first hit home video and that I'm not really one to give films a second chance, trusting my gut the first time around - but it's probably time to test this position. Also, kind of hard to go wrong at the sale price less member 10% discount and a 20% coupon.

It was broadcast on TV in Europe. I caught it when I was 12-14 years old (old enough to want to know, but too young to comprehend both the scale and the horror), when it was shown late at night over a period of a week or so. I have only vague memories of it (talking heads mostly), but I remember being drawn to it like a moth to flame.

Or perhaps Phil Karlson's The Phenix City Story from 1955? (Unlikely, I know, but it might be one of those clue that throws everyone off the trail.)
