Arrow would be perfect to release the Santo movies. My favorite are the western and action movies starring Mario Almada, Jorge Rivero, Valentin Trujillo. etc. All those gritty westerns and action films from the 60's to 80's.
I am from Mexico, actually from the other California near the border

You seem to have seen much more mexican films than me, I think most of the older ones are not in very good shape sadly.

There is one I can throw that I think is a classic which I thought was pretty good and would be nice to have at least in one of those World of Cinema boxes, it is Fernando de Fuentes Vamonos con Pancho Villa, pretty early stuff, is from 1936.

There also aren't any comedies, but that's not uncommon for these kinds of polls. People just don't take comedy seriously

Ooh, tough call. I'll give it a shot, though.

Three Colors Trilogy: It's absolutely brilliant. Kieslowski at his best, IMO. Honestly, if I had to get rid of all my Criterions except one (well, three in this case), this would be what I held onto.

Mulholland Dr.: One of the best, most intriguing films ever made as far as I'm concerned. And Criterion gave it a beautiful treatment, both in packaging and with excellent extras.

L'Avventura: As the review on this site says, "Words cannot possibly describe how beautiful the new restoration of Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Avventura is." And if you're a fan Antonioni and this film, I'd recommend La Notte and L'Eclisse as well. Also, all three films have pretty strong extras, especially L'Avventura.

In The Mood For Love: One of my favorite films, the presentation is quite strong. The PQ isn't what it could be. But the extras are extensive. And it's such a stunning motion picture that I can't imagine not owning it.

Hiroshima Mon Amour: Certainly, this isn't everyone's cup of tea. It's a love it/hate it movie in my experience. But it's provocative and challenging. Criterion knocked it out of the park with this package, too. The extras are worth the price on their own, AFAIC. And it's simply a beautiful film with a haunting score that will stay with you ... well, probably forever.

Persona: Again, probably not everyone's cup of tea. But it's my personal favorite Bergman film. Criterion did a fantastic job all around, and the film just looks so gorgeous.

The Red Shoes: From this site's review: "Simply put, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's The Red Shoes belongs in every respectable film collection. " I couldn't agree more. It's such a beautiful movie, and the extras are wonderful. Actually, this reminds me that it's been too long since I've watched this. I know what I'm doing tonight now.

Breathless: IMO, one of the most important films ever made, as it kicked off the French New Wave. Film has never been the same. The extras are extensive and there is a very cool *80* page booklet.

The Thin Red Line: Arguably Malick's masterpiece, the PQ, AQ, and extras are all top notch. And by "top" I really mean top. I don't think it gets much better than this, when you consider the quality of the film and the quality of the presentation.

Black Narcissus: Another Powell & Pressburger to go along with The Red Shoes, this is a gorgeous film and a fascinating one as well. And one can never have enough Deborah Kerr, right?

Fanny and Alexander: Finally, Bergman's final film. Beyond the magnificent film itself, the wonderful PQ and AQ, and the hours and hours of supplements, you get both the theatrical cut of the film (~3 hrs.) and the Swedish TV cut which runs over 5 hours. This package is sublime in every area.

Those are some of my favorites, and some of the Criterion releases I believe have the best combination of technical aspects and content.

Now I have to get ready to have a Powell and Pressburger 2x feature tonight!

But I don't really think Tree of Life needs a Criterion release to be honest.

I really like the cover art on the current blu-ray release and I doubt the special features would be significantly better.

I would much rather see Jon Mulvaney get off his sorry butt and get the Le Samourai release taken care of.

Did you hear that Mulvaney?

...I'm done playing around.
I was going to add that The Tree of Life definitely does not need a Criterion release, because the existing blu-ray release, which I also happen to own, is amazing.

I would still piss my pants if The New World got a Criterion release though. I think its my favorite Malick film aside from The Thin Red Line, and I think because its less violent than the latter film, its also more accessible to the general public.

my collection is not respectable. probably even less so considering that I blind bought the film only to turn around and sell it a week later.

I learned Spanish from my parents and the movies I watched. My uncle, who lives with us, got DirecTV around 2000 or 2001. I would watch my cartoons in the living room. I had to give up the TV to my parents and uncle, so they could watch the news and after a movie from channel 22. Channel 22 would show a whole bunch of Mexican movies. I had to watch them because I didn't have a TV in my room.

In honor of some movie called "Star" something, which apparently a few people have shown some mild interest in, and which comes out today ...

ha ha! well, you should know that in adulthood I revisited the Star Wars original trilogy and got about 25 minutes in before turning it off. I saw them when I was a really little kid, but for all intents and purposes I haven't seen them and don't plan to.

Natalie Portman on the other hand...

I'm the same, never was a fan of the Star Wars Trilogy. For all intents and purposes, one of the very good things to come out of that trilogy was Indiana Jones.

Come on, announce the titles already.

Add me to the list of those who don't care for Star Wars. I've only seen A New Hope and was thoroughly disappointed. I also expected Yoda to be there, but, nope, no Yoda. I have zero interest in seeing the other films.

I am glad to see a Blu-ray release of Bicycle Thieves, though!
