And even if they decided to try a 3D movie, how spectacular is a 3D movie going to look on their 32" HDTV? Not very if you ask me. Point is, Blu-ray is just really starting to take off. And now they're already trying to roll out new technology and expect the millions of people that just went in on HDTV to upgrade and buy a 3D capable HDTV? It's not gonna take off very fast. Like I said, it doesn't bother me as long as I have a 2D version along with the 3D version.
So, your concern is that modern technology is moving too fast?

The people on this forum may need instant gratification by purchasing new technology as soon as it's released, but who's stopping people from waiting a couple of years before upgrading to 3D TV's. Heck, I'd rather the technology get here sooner so that the prices can drop on it by the time I decide to buy. And, if your friends haven't bought BD players yet, don't you think it would be better to have the 3D ready so they can have it available when the do decide to buy?

I was being sarcastic with my quote. Your going to do 3D properly Anthony on your screen because you will be immersed compared watching it on a 50" panel.

3D on a 30" screen is as spectacular compared to 2D on a 30" TV as
3D on a 50" is to 2D on a 50" and
3D on a 100" is to 2D on a 100" and
3D on a 5' is to 2D on a 5' and
3D on a 10' is to 2D on a 10' and
3D on a 30' is to 2D on a 30'
....

but watching a movie on a 30" screen will never be as good as 50" or 100" or 10' a 30' screen be it 2D or 3D.

PS there are always people that are ahead of the curve and others behind the curve. There might still be some people that have and B&W TV, does that mean that only B&W should exist because it was good enough for them?

I can understand that spending $ is not always easy, but the faster it comes out, the faster early adopters can buy it the faster the price3 comes down for everyone else.

but why is that doing 3D properly? For me doing 3D properly is not using anaglyph and using some tech that does not ruin the picture (like anaglyph ruins the colours) If a movie is 2D would it be done any more properly if it is on a 50”? if you don’t consider 50” proper for 2D, then you need something bigger then 2D , but if it is good enough for 2D then it should also be good enough for 3D.

Because the whole point of 3D is to be immersed into the picture you ain't going to acheive that with a 50"

I love any enhancement I can get watching movie, is that so wrong? As others have said 3D done correctly is actually quite good. Problem is not everyone can enjoy the experience with you. I had to take my daughter out half way in Mon v Aliens because she couldn't handle the glasses. Left my son and wife in the theater. It's not for everyone.

Screen size does matter much more in 3d to truly get the effect and it being worthwhile. How many average tv buyers even have a clue what the proper size of screen to viewing distance should be with HD?

Yes, 3d is coming but some of you are making it sound like all new sets are exclusive 3d sets and that will be the primary goal from manufactures and studios. It's not going to happen for another good 5 years before your average buyer would even consider it. Last time I checked unemployment was still high with the middleclass dying off.

One amazing movie will not change the home tv experience. Majority of us can barely come close to replicating a Great home theater, just having a 3d set isn't going to change the industry. 3d is primarly a gimmic to get us to go out and spend money in these tough times. Some movies just do it better than others. Do any of you remember when they tried to introduce smell at theaters?

It's not just for movies, it will be sports as well in the future which is what I'm personally looking forward to the most, and there are supposedly going to be 3d TVs that are capable of using technology that don't even require glasses, all of the people in here saying it's a gimmick will be reasurred eventually, I wish I could watch sports in 3d right now, as well as movies and video games... You will eventually see first hand

the truth is in my opinion that 3D will never be anything more then a fad until holographic movies start to come out that do not require the stupid glasses. When holodecks are invented, I will upgrade. and yes, I did see Avatar in 3-d and the movie was just fine in 2-d which I also saw. with the world in a recession right now, this is a really bad time to be expecting everyone to run right out and upgrade their current tv's and bd players to 3d. imo the movie companies are wasting their time.

I watched Coraline 3D on my 50" vs in my theatre room and it was night and day. The big needle thread popping out of the screen looked cool in the theatre but it did nothing for me on the 50".

I went back to watching it on 2D because i did not care for it afterawhile.

Hang on, hang on, I wouldn't view 3-D capability as an "upgrade" at all! I don't think 3-D really works, despite what Hollywood is keen to tell us.

If you turn your body and look round the side of an object on the screen, can you see the side of that object? Nope! Because 3-D as we know it is merely a number of 2-D images placed at different virtual distances from the screen. Thus it's not truly three-dimensional.

3-D is an illusion and I, for one, am not buying into it.

I was right not to buy into HD-DVD and I'm right about this. You'll see!

I have no interest in sports. Bunch of under-educated people running about and kicking round objects up and down grassy fields. Yawn!

That's fine, but your opinion doesn't really matter in this situation, since the market at large deems it to be an upgrade, and that's all that really matters when it comes to consumer electronics.

No, I think the market at large deems it to be a "quirky".
