I just received this email from Blue Underground:
"Thank you for your email. We're glad you're enjoying our Blu-ray releases and hope you continue to purchase them! THE CRAZIES will be released on Blu-ray on Feb. 23rd. We are just beginning work now on THE PROWLER Blu-ray, which should be released by Halloween. Look for an official announcement in the coming months on our website: www.blue-underground.com" ![]() the prowler.jpg The Prowler Blu-ray Review Last edited by Blu Titan; 07-25-2010 at 04:52 PM. Does anyone here own the Australian, Umbrella release of this? If so, how do the PQ and extras compare to the Blue Underground release?

I was eager to revisit The Prowler after acquiring it via the MVD Blue Underground sale to see if a fresh set of eyes would elevate my dim appreciation for it.
The answer? Sort of...I've never wavered that its strengths, namely the titular villain's fatigue get-up and the severity of the kills, are especially strong. The movie is seriously aces up to and after the dormitory chase scene. But the lifeless investigative scenes that follow are terribly plodding and are just a major drag on everything. If they had tightened that portion of the movie up then we might be talking about the pinnacle of that auspicious '81 slasher class. As is, I can't rank it any higher than 9th on my personal top 10 from that year: 10. Happy Birthday to Me 9. The Prowler 8. Final Exam 7. Hell Night 6. Halloween II 5. Friday the 13th: Part 2 4. The Funhouse 3. The Burning 2. Just Before Dawn 1. My Bloody Valentine |

A blu-ray thats 10 years old now and many older horror movies getting the 4k treatment these days. Anyone know if the rights are with blue underground still or?
This and burning need brand new masters from original negatives. We got burning in 2016 from arrow but Prowler doesn't seem to be with them. |

I would love for Arrow to get ahold of it. It’s clear that Blue Underground doesn’t give a shit about it. They’re too busy releasing Maniac and Zombie over and over and over again.

Arrow just added The Prowler to their streaming service, in the U.S., at least. I don't know if this means anything. Whoever runs the Blue Underground twitter account recently "liked" a few tweets requesting The Prowler in 4K, so... I don't know. It could be that Arrow is working on a UK version, or maybe they just have the streaming rights.

Bill did a live stream on YouTube three weeks ago and said he still has The Prowler but only has access to the inter negative and that he's looking for better material. He also mentioned Dead and Buried had the same issue as The Prowler and that took three years to complete.

The Prowler is chock-full of trademark 80's slasher/suspense goodness, from the fast-cadence piano bass notes to the eerie droning and shrieking violins. Despite its shortcomings in the script, it is dark, taut, and rife with cool atmosphere created largely by the top-notch score, tense imagery brought out by interesting camera angles, and Savini's equally great gore-effect realism. I even think the director's effort with Friday 13th the Final Chapter was my favorite flick in that franchise, and many of the stylistic cues from Prowler are recognizeable in Final Chapter.
No doubt, the film really does need and deserve a fresh 4k scan asap. |
