Thumbs up

I heard they were making a real guitar to use with RB3. I think that's pretty cool.

Nonetheless, it's still pretty cool, especially considering it's just a video game.
To clarify, when playing with the Fender Squire guitar controller, you ARE playing a real guitar. And when playing pro mode on expert, you ARE playing the song, note for note and chord for chord, accurately. if someone were to plug the guitar controller into an amp while the game was being played, you'd hear the exact guitar part for the song coming out of the amp. Hence, if you can play pro mode on expert, you can in fact, play the the song on guitar.

This is correct. Further, you CAN plug the guitar into an amp and play with the game or standalone.

I wonder if this is going to re-open the Konami lawsuit against Harmonix/MTV/EA. They lost the first time because it was ruled Konami's patent didn't cover the plastic guitars which had been in use up until now.

A real guitar falls much much closer to that patent as I remember it.

I'm wondering what the price will be for the real guitar since the buttoned one is what.. $150? I bet the stringed one will be even more than that. Also wonder if they will make a bundle with the game, mic, keyboard, drums (with cymbols) & stringed guitar. Altho I don't need a new mic and only need the cymbols to add to the drum kit... Guess I will just have to wait and see what happens.

I've had the 3 cymbal kit for some time now. I have always tried to hit the cymbals when I'm supposed to even though it didn't matter. Good to see that it WILL matter in RB3.

Is there any proof of this? I'll believe it when I see it. If it's true, it's cool, but until I see that that's the case, I'll remain skeptical.

It will be very hard to have real guitar tabs scrolling down a screen in real time, because it will be too difficult to respond to them in time, unless you already have the song memorized.

When the first RB game was coming out, they were originally saying you could learn to play drums by playing expert drums in the game. And now we obviously know that's not true.

I'm not trying to take a dump on the game, but until there's proof that complete guitar transcriptions are in the game on expert guitar, I'm going to assume it's just marketing speak to hype the game up.

It'd be nice if they prove me wrong though.

And if they don't, it's not a big deal, because it's still just a game.

Looked like a double-bass pedal. Which would be immensely welcome.

I got a chance to play the E3 build of Rock Band 3 last week in Atlantic City. It's pretty brilliant. Only 22 songs were playable (aside from exports/DLC), but harmonies work great, and the keyboard is amazing.

Although a bit overkill (I know), will my Yamaha Motif ES88 work with RB3? It's MIDI compatible.

Nice keyboard, I'm a fan of Yamaha. Reports I've read seem to indicate any keyboard will work, as long as it has a MIDI-out, and you use the MIDI-to-USB converter.

What I'm wondering is if any MIDI-to-USB adapter can be used (since I have plenty of those sitting around), or if you need some special RB one.

Good information. For now, we wait.

We didn't have the new guitars available, but HMXdropslash brought the new keyboard peripheral soPro Keys were available, and it was really great. I was wondering how readable the charts would be, but it actually worked really well.

We had an Ion Kit with cymbals, so Pro Drums was also turned on at times. Quite cool.

As for the actual-keyboard-to-MIDI question, I believe any MIDI-capable keyboard will function just fine from my conversations with HMXdropslash, HMXThrasher, and Alex Rigopulos over the course of two days. In "non-pro" mode, you'll only use 5 keys near middle C, but in Pro mode I'm pretty sure you can use at least 2 full octaves of the keyboard, if not the entire keyboard.

I don't know if any other non-official USB-to-MIDI adapter will work, but I sincerely doubt it - remember that it still has to register as a controller for gameplay purposes.
