Uh....

Unless I'm missing something, there were no scenes filmed with IMAX cameras.

For like the 17th time, some scenes were filmed in 65mm, not full blown IMAX cameras. The entire movie is framed in 2:35:1.

BUT TDK had Vistavision/65mm cameras as well as IMAX and those scenes (IMAX and VistaVision) were cropped to 1:78:1 so we can hope for that on this Blu for the first time

Really hoping for releases with different totems, so the die, the chess piece, the gun, the top and the ring.

No it didn't. Dark Knight was shot on anamorphic 35mm and IMAX formats only. And IMAX is much bigger film than plain 65mm. Since Inception was shown in constant 2.35:1 in all venues, I don't think the blu-ray would have switching aspect ratios.

My bad then. Thanks for the info. Scratch that off the list then.

The 65mm scenes were definitely better than the 35mm in IMAX. I'm not sure how appreciable the difference will be on a puny TV, though.

Well go watch the batpod chase focus points on TDK's BD because I SPECIFICALLY remember that Vistavision cameras were utilized because they could only do the truck flip once and they wanted to get multiple angles on film...... I will check MYSELF.

No VistaVision cameras on the Dark Knight. 35mm and IMAX. That's it.

I've found some article where the editor says they used vistavision for miniatures , and for coverage of that truck flip. Nothing about vanilla 65mm though. Its native AR is 2.2:1, not exactly ideal for IMAX or HDTV aspect ratio cropping.

At least as far as the mountain and establishing city shots go, it should look amazing. I've seen the film once in IMAX and a couple times in a regular theater with digital projection. Those shots all stood out each time. Nolan and Pfister really do a great job with the overhead helicopter cityscape/nature shots.

Exactly.

If they had WANTED Inception to have shifting aspect ratios, it would. If they wanted to open the matte, they would. But they didn't. I'm going to be mad if this isn't 2.4:1 on BD, although I wouldn't mind seeing open matte made available as a choice... but then again, I'm in favor of open matte being a choice in all cases anyway. It really bugs me that they use data so inefficiently on BDs and have black bars hard coded into the picture. Either there should be an open matte with black bars added by the player during playback, or the picture should be allowed to be encoded at 1920x800 or whatever instead of 1920x1080.

Gun? Ring? Methinks you're reading too much into fanon. We only know of a totem for Ariadne, Arthur, and Dom (
[Show spoiler]which is also Mal's though we never see her with it
). Besides, a replica gun? Really? And a wedding ring? Really?

Incidentally, I was skulking around ebay the other day, and there are people selling metal spinning top replicas... and making tons of money on them, I'm sure. I'd love to have a little metal trinket, but no way would I pay the absurd amounts those things are going for on ebay.

I'm sure Nolan and a few select members of the cast already have it on disc, doubt it's 1080p though.

Nolan better not skim us on the extras like he did with TDK, i understand ledger died it was sad but we all know there is a lot of extra footage out there and enough time has passed.. where is the ultimate TDK edition?

back on track i would like to see a package deal like target or BB had with star trek where it came with the symbols as pins or whatever but with "totems"

that would be EPIC

Most of the footage filmed in The Dark Knight was added into the movie so I don't know what you're talking about with extra footage.
