You guys are talking about Tarantino's Oscar jinx, and his is long overdue, but don't forget about Will. I think he's a fantastic actor. Over time he's evolved into a reliable performer with Box Office draw to match. He hasn't won either (Ali and Happyness). I really hope both of those guys get a trophy soon. I thought this was as good a time as any for Will to get one. 2009 was an overstuffed year, but if Basterds had come out a year later, he would have had a better shot. Jamie Foxx won, which was a shock to many, but he's just as talented as Will IMO. He was amazing in The Soloist (and obviously Ray). I don't know, I love Tarantino and think Foxx is a-ok. We'll see.

So if he is officially cast, I can honestly say this will be the first Tarantino movie I will have ever avoided.
I take it you missed his turn in the Michael Mann Directed "Collateral", with Tom Cruise? He wasn't anywhere NEAR playing a cocky character in that movie. If yo don't like him for whatever reason, fine.

Either way, I too would have Loved seeing ELBA get the role. He's a great actor also.

FOXX as "Ray Charles" & his Winning the Oscar wasn't a shock to anybody who watched his portrayal. Maybe to you, which is fine, but he WAS "Ray Charles" in that movie.

Misread my point. I meant that prior to him playing Ray Charles, how many of us would have said Jamie Foxx will be an Oscar winner one day?

oh okay - if that's the case, then yes, Who woulda' Known!

I was just saying he NAILED the role, which is why he won pretty much Every OTHER Award that season as well.

I've seen him in a lot of movies, and I've never liked him in anything. There are far more talented black actors out there then Jamie Foxx or Will Smith. I love how they call Will "the always image conscious Will Smith" when the ego on that guy is astounding. He turns down an amazing role because taking a risk wouldn't be good for his image. Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejifor or Dijimon Hounsou would have all been better choices and brought great depth to Djanjo.

I would of rather seen Smith play this role. I have just never been a fan of Fox. I'm not saying he's a bad actor by any means, just doesn't appeal to me. Should be interesting though!

And yes, QT is LONG overdue on an oscar. He is by far my favorite director

Most def. While I can't quite say he's my favorite director (Spielberg still holds that belt despite his latest missteps), Tarantino is definitely in my top three. Probably second. He is my favorite writer though.

Best Original Screenplay everytime he does it.

Will Smith doesn't do hard R films anymore. Tarantino writing guarantees that. Just my guess. I'm probably way off.

If that were true then I find it odd that Tarantino would have spent all that time writing the role specifically for Will Smith, and then brought the movie over to his company to produce it as well. Just seems like a slap in the face to me after all that hard work of trying to secure him.

I don't think that's the reason. Hasn't he expressed interest in doing Bad Boys 3? The first two had some very salty language, and I would expect nothing but the same from the third.

i think its less about the language and more about the content. this is far more controversial than anything Smith has done. hes still that 'good guy' in Bad Boys while Django is on a mission to kill a bunch of people. hes concerned about his image.

That's more like what I was thinking, but I didn't say it. He doesn't want to play a slave.

That would be taking a risk and Big Willie don't do that.

I see. Ya I really don't think it's because of the movie being rated R. He and Martin L. said they'd both love to do a third Bad Boys. It just bothers me very much. Smith is an exceptional actor, who like QT is overdue on an oscar. Then something like this comes up that QT wrote spesifically for Smith and he turns it down. Is it because of his image? Maybe, but I just felt like this was literally the perfect oppertunity for Smith to shine in a role he doesn't usually play in and elevate his acting career even more. Too bad. Now I'm stuck with Jamie Foxx

I don't hate Will Smith, but he's never blown me away either and made feel like he's an exceptional actor. I had hoped that this would have been the movie to change my mind, but instead he will continue to play it safe and keep doing MIB movies and everything else that you'd expect him to do, nothing out of his comfort zone.

But uh Jamie Foxx.........serious Idris, Chiwetel or Djimon would have been amazing, especially Djimon. Seriously does anybody remember Amistad?

I have to agree with other posters that Djimon Honsou would have been a good fit for the role. However I don't mind having Jamie Foxx in the lead. As for Will Smith, he's pretty good as well but it's good for QT to move forward with this project.
