Yes, i couldn't agree with you more on that , about that if they were left where they were at the end of Pirates 1 . They had way too much screen time in Pirates 2 and Pirates 3.

IDK, I liked the storyline of Will and Bootstrap in 2 and 3, plus Keira Knightley isn't too bad on the eyes

This is a blind buy for me. Hope this is as good as the first 2 movies or at least not the worst of the 4 movies.

looks like 10/18 is the official release day.

Quote:
Disney has announced that "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" will hit stores on DVD and Blu-ray on October 18th.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" recently broke $1 billion at the worldwide box office and became the highest-grossing "Pirates" film, beating the third installment, which also broke the $1 billion mark.

Ugh, I hate that they keep doing this stupid "exclusive disc" for the collections, I already had to rebuy the trilogy for the bonus disc of deleted scenes (which I think it's not even in this collection, so, are we supposed to get both if we want all the extras?).

I won't complain about them putting more extras on the 3D version only because of the $8 coupon from Amazon, but how will they know how many sales of the 3D version were actually for the 3D and not the extras (although I guess completionists like us are a small percentage)?

P.S. Sorry for the rant.

I think I'm gonna wait to buy this, and I'll probably just purchase it in a series pack or something.

If this is Disney's official break down of the set, maybe I'm reading it wrong, but that means the bonus disc that was released as the seventh disc to the re-release of the trilogy back in March is not included in this set?
so whats this short film Wedlocked then? Any info about it? The set sounds nice, but it'll obviosuly be very expensive, especially when UK import tax is added on.

Yes, that's exactly what it means (unless the extra disc includes everything from the other disc + the short film Wedlocked, but it doesn't say that anywhere).

what really sucks is the fact that the only way to get the short film is to get the box set. that's how they treat us Pirates fans that already own all 3 previous films.

Default Disney Goes with Blu-ray Combo First for ‘Pirates’

Quote:
In a first for a major box office blockbuster, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has chosen to delay a DVD-only release when it streets Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides on Oct. 18.

Instead, Disney will release the film as a two-disc Blu-ray Disc and DVD combo pack ($39.99) and a five-disc combo pack with 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy ($49.99).

A DVD-only release will street Nov. 15, a Disney representative said.

Both Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Lionsgate previously have released a title as a Blu-ray combo pack with DVD, with no DVD-only release, but none of those releases grossed $1 billion-plus worldwide.

Disney also will street a 15-disc Blu-ray collection ($169.99) including all four films in the “Pirates” franchise, and is offering the film as both a 3D ($49.99) and high-definition download ($39.99).

DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group estimates that as of the end of the first quarter of the year, there are nearly 30 million households in the United States with a Blu-ray player.

So, if you want the second Blu-Ray disc with the special features you are forced to get the 5-disc 3D set. If you want the bonus disc with "Wedlocked" then you are forced to get the 15 disc monstrosity.

I pre-ordered the 5 discs set. Should look nice beside the trilogy set. I prefer to have special features together with the movie, so the 2 discs set is out for me.

well, lets be honest here; it'll be illiegally online pretty much as soon as it's released. I dont advocate piracy, but when companies pull a totally below the belt act like this, they frankly deserve it.
Honestly, how many people are they going to get to buy this set just for this short and the packaging? Most of the hardcore fans will already have the first 3 already.
I'm quite tempted to go for the set, but it depends on the region coding of the 3D BD of Pirates4.

I was curious too and googled it. Found this clip on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Namp...ature=youtu.be

And from POTC wikia :
Quote:
Pirates of the Caribbean: Tales of the Code: Wedlocked is an upcoming short film, directed by James Ward Byrkit, based on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Not much is known about it, but it does revolve around the characters Scarlett and Giselle from the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films.

Honestly, I may bight for the box set if the price goes down. I think it's lame that they're putting the short film exclusively on it though. But it's Disney, and they're just as notorious as WB with the Potter series to repackage and resell the pirates movies with new features. But with a fifth movie on the horizon, I can just see another box set down the line.
