Casablanca and It's a Wonderful Life...but don't ask me to pick between the two because I can't.

Who cares about being PC? Films like Triumph of the Will, Battleship Potemkin, Birth of a Nation are all fantastic!

My favorite film from the classic era is Sunset Blvd.

Palm Beach Story comes in a close second.

I'm having a difficult time deciding between Double Indemnity and Casablanca. I believe Double Indemnity just barely has the edge over Casablanca.

Not much plot there, though!

Melies' THE HAUNTED CASTLE (1896) and THE ALCHEMIST'S HALLUCINATION (1897) are sorta fun with their ghosts and vampires, creepy spider and green snake, and pretty impressive special effects.

Far too many people, unfortunately. I know your sheltered from a lot of bullshit down in Texas, but it's pretty bad here in the North.

too many people. unfortunately most don't realize that being "PC" is bull as it creates more problems than it solves. with movies, do the disclaimer like Warners does on the Looney Tunes cartoons and release them as they were. shouldn't ignore the past and pretend it didn't happen - see why things were that way and learn from it instead.

I agree, we should preserve the past as it is and perhaps we may just learn something from it. Some people have this mindset that "un-PC" art, whether it's literature, music, film or whatever, should be destroyed, and I think that's so disturbing. Our history is what it is, and destroying/burying all traces of it won't undo anything.

Personally, I'm more forgiving the older a work is, because I realize that was the spirit of the time, and as much as I personally may not agree with, for example the racism and antisemitism of H.P. Lovecraft and Richard Wagner, those were common beliefs in their time and I can still appreciate their work on its own terms. We're all just products of our time. Surely, due to advancing medical knowledge and a changing social and political climate, in another 60 years or more some of the things we do and believe today will seem "wrong" to some, just as wrong as the racism in some early cinema, or doctors smoking around patients in some films from the mid-20th century may seem today.
