How do you rent your Blu-rays? - Page 7 - Blu-ray Forum

Asked this on another thread but just want some feedback here- how can you browse the Netflix BD selection if you have not signed up for the added service yet? In other words, how can I look at the titles they have to determine if it's worth buying before I pay them in order to browse at all?

@blurayfriend - It shows for me in the "Availability" Section of each movie's page, underneath the production credits, before the user reviews. "Availability

VD and Blu-ray" is what it will say, for instance.

If this does not work for you, I suggest that you upgrade your account to Blu-Ray on the day before it is next billed, because they pro-rate the cost of that upgrade. You'll only pay a dime or two to see the selection, then you can cancel it right away if you don't like it.

But I assure you, the selection is pretty extensive. There have only been a few older titles I have had to buy because they weren't on Netflix.

As for my answer to this question: Netflix, but only because Blockbuster pissed me off. I loved BB Online, with trade-ins. Used it for a couple years. Because Blockbuster is no longer such a hotspot, they always had everything in stock on opening Tuesday (remember when you either had to get their right at opening or wait weeks!?) But I had a $50 gift-card, and they refused to honor it because the judge ruled they didn't have to as part of their bankruptcy proceedings. Contacted them and I would have stayed a loyal customer had they thrown me a month or two free of my ongoing BB Online subscription, but they didn't care. Back to Netflix I went, and I have stayed there ever since!

Blockbuster. Has anyone ever noticed that sometimes when you rent blu-ray's from Blockbuster that they are actually copies? My bf and I had this happen to use a couple times. Some blu-rays offer not just the theatrical version but also an unrated edition that was never shown in theaters, but because they are copies we can't watch them.

I used Blockbuster from 1998-2007 mainly for games, but my mother often rented movies. So I never really got the experience of renting a movie from Blockbuster.

At present, after carefully analyzing the situation, I opted for Netflix over Blockbuster and Greencine. The majority of the films I rent from Netflix were released prior to I was born and as such, are largely available. I'm a loyal customer, and have had no issues with them at all. I have no intention at any time in the near future to quit renting, and I've got over 400 movies (Blu) in my queue. I haven't seen any of them before. Another perk is that in the future, I'll be able to rent whole seasons of shows I'd never otherwise see (Heroes, Dexter, etc).

I've saved around $300 so far w/ Netflix (joined Dec 21st, 2011), and if I actually rented all of those movies, I'd save around $4000. (excluding newer releases that would be $25-35)

As for Redbox, I really enjoy the concept and intend to rent around 40 films per year from them. (Perhaps more, let's see)

BBeXpress near me doesn't have Blu-rays (except Rango) so I won't be able to give them business.
