My Thrid Man CC cost me about $80. Not great, but I figured I should jump on it before it starts going for over $100. Besides, considering the amount of bonus features, the picture and audio quality, and the fact it's one of the greatest movies of all time, I happily paid the 80 bucks.

I'm interested, are OOP copies of something that was in the public domain at the time yet now isn't still legal to buy second-hand?

Oh, and for those looking for Zodiac, it's still in print outside of the US. It's the single disc version though, so unless the extra bitrate is important to you, I'd just import.

OOP means that no more copies of a movie will be made. They are still legal to buy and sell, but you may have trouble finding a copy, and it could get expensive.

"Out of print refers to an item, typically a book (see: Out of print books), but can include any print or visual media or sound recording, that is in the state of no longer being published.

The abbreviation OOP (also OP) is a more general term that encompasses craft, hobby, toy, and collectable items that are out of production.

An item goes out of print when a publisher does not reprint, re-press, or reissue once all copies have been sold to retailers."

Also couldn't you import the UK edition of Blades of Glory? I'm assuming the since the US disc was region free the UK disc is as well.
Malcolm X never went OOP, because it never got released (until tomorrow). The release was held up for legal reasons. A dispute over music rights.

I know what OOP means, I was asking about stuff that goes OOP because it's no longer in the public domain, like The Third Man.

The Third Man was never PD. The Criterion version went OOP because StudioCanal gave the video rights to Lionsgate instead.

Yes it was. They straightened it it out in the mid-90s and reinstated the copyright, but before then, it was PD in the US. There are a bunch of cheapie VHS versions because of this.

Alone in the Dark 2. It was a Best Buy exclusive that never received a wider release. And now Best Buy no longer carries it either (It's still listed on their site, but unavailable). I've never been able to find it online anywhere. As terrible a movie as I'm sure it is, I still really want to own it. It's like the Holy Grail... of crap.

I went on a Paramount "out of print" spree about a week ago and ordered via Amazon marketplace and Ebay several of the OOP movies. Here is what I have in transit or just recently received:

received:

Got both of these from Amazon.com, maybe these aren't out of print??

Flags of our Fathers 2 Disc Edition
The Heartbreak Kid

In transit: (all USA/CAN Region All brand new releases)

Changing Lanes
Hot Rod
Nacho Libre
Paycheck(blind buy)
Zodiac 2 Disc Director's Cut

Needless to say that this cost a few bucks to get these. Oh Well.
