I'm really surprised that Umbrella haven't at least given Malcolm, The Club and Death in Brunswick the Blu-ray treatment.

A 2K transfer has been done, as the NFSA did a restoration only about a year or two ago which screened at The Forum in Melbourne with some of the cast in attendance for a Q&A after the film. It looked great and still packs a hell of a punch. The audience was visibly angry and/or in tears when the end credits rolled.

The theme of the film is probably more relevant today, and interestingly the teenage lead is played (brilliantly) by one of the actresses from Hey Dad.
Would you believe we studied Shame in Year 9 English in the mid-nineties? I hated it back in the day, and felt like I was being preached to by both the film and the teacher. I wrote a scathing response to it, that the teacher returned to me as "not up to standard" which only infuriated me further. I think I literally #notallmen-d the film in my response, some fifteen-plus years before before it was a social media thing.

With age, hindsight, and learning a lot more about the impact of sexual assault, I feel far more sympathetic about my teacher's intentions in screening it (given the boys in our class were close in age to the rapists in the film) and understand that she was likely trying to encourage us to question our own attitudes and assumptions about sex and consent. It can be hard to take that kind of hard look at yourself at that age, though.

At any rate, I would like to revisit the film sometime and examine it with adult eyes. A Blu release of the restoration would be great.

Funny you say that because I recall a teacher in high school - I can't remember if it was in English or Media Studies though - also putting the video on for us in around Year 9 or 10, which would have been around 1997-98.

I don't think we studied it as a text and had to write about it though, because I don't think we even finished the whole film. It may have been something a substitute teacher just put on for us during a double-period or something.

I remember people in class were laughing at the over the top, rural 80s accents at the start but I was pretty engrossed and wanted to see what happened, but it wasn't until years later I found the VHS in an ex-rental sale and picked it up to watch it properly.

That Reel DVD is atrocious. A 16:9 crop of an old video master.

It’s interesting that Crocodile Dundee isn’t available on Blu-Ray here in Australia, that’s always a shocker, apart from that, I wouldn’t mind seeing Chopper on Blu-Ray, classic Eric Bana performance

What are the odds of Man From Snowy River II? Disney will never do it in NA -- heck, they won't even put it on Disney+ (and now they own the rights to both films).

Also:

Is this the Australian DVD that's supposed to be widescreen for Snowy River II? The link here says it's full screen.

It's getting close to the end of 2020, and still no news on a local Blu-ray release of Chopper for it's 20th anniversary
