I don't know how unexpected this is? I have heard Predator as a rumored conversion more about a year. So it seems like we just moved rumor to confirmation.

lol you misunderstand then. I'm not trying to sell you that it's unexpected. For me this is unexpected. Didn't know anything about the rumors. But I don't keep up with unofficial stuff much. Back on track, it would be a monumental disappointment if the studio squanders the opportunity to correct some previous wrongs. Still I'm going to keep monitoring this thread for updates.

Then you will be monumentally disappointed. There is no reason for a remaster. What 'previous wrongs' are you referring to? The studio has already said that the criticism of the UHE was undeserved. They have no regrets, whatsoever. The Ultimate Hunter Edition continues to sell well, nearly 3 1/2 years after release.

Yeah... Why would the studio ever admit they f-ed up? Oh wait... They did go back and fix Patton and then re-released it.

If the release is profitable, they have no reason to change it. The 2008 release wasn't profitable. It still isn't. The 2010 UHE was successful. The market has changed. According to NPD there were 26 Million Blu-ray buyers in 2011. (probably closer to 30 Million today)
The 220,000 members of this forum represent less than 1% of Blu-ray buyers. You are overestimating the effect of the negative reaction to the Ultimate Hunter Edition from reviewers, some members here and on other forums, most of whom stopped discussing it a few months after it was released in 2010. It certainly hasn't affected sales. So, why should the studio be concerned? They can modify Predator any way they choose. They own it. The next modification will be 3D. It remains to be seen how profitable that will be. If they haven't improved the JVC VideoTek conversion process, it probably won't do that well. I will buy it, if only to satisfy my curiosity.

For a shoddy 2D to 3D conversion? You're Fox's target audience for sure. They nailed that demographic down with the I, Robot abomination for sure.

No, it wasn't. But all indications are that Predator won't be either.

I never thought about it that way, but true and if you're paying for additional people (girlfriend, wife, kids, etc.), that $15 or even $20 BD will be cheaper.

I'm hoping for a lenticular slip.

Instead of this: http://www.google.com/search?q=preda...ra%3B707%3B600

I would prefer one of these covers: http://www.google.com/search?q=preda...w=1366&bih=620

If Fox wants to consult with John McTiernan on the 3D release, they wont have any trouble finding him. He started his one year federal prison term in North Dakota on 3 April.

Still won't work, the prison only has 2D projectors and equipment.
Plus, why consult the director when you pay monkeys to do dnr application and color-timing anyway.

I hope to god it isn't the Ultimate DNR Edition converted to 3D. Come on Fox, give this film a new high quality scan from the original negatives, it deserves it. After all, 3rd times a charm.

The first two Alien films got extensive remastering, why not Predator? It's a well known fact that Fox only did the UHE because of complaints that the 2008 edition was too grainy. They should have stuck to their guns and ignored the ignorant folks who don't understand that the film is supposed to be grainy.

I know I may sound harsh, but come on, we all know it's true.

I dont think the natural film grain ist the problem. Its an old transfer and most from it are digital and the old codecs makes this not better.
Predator and Predator 2 needs new scans.

Hate to break it you but from their prospective they have no reason to remaster the film where the shoddy UHE with the grain wiped away and the contrast pumped up is a product that looked like it was designed for a quick and cheap 3D conversion.

I would be happy if they used the UHE for the 3D version (because I have no interest in 3D) and gave us a new scan for a new 2D remaster with a better encode and bit rate on a 50 GB disc, but that's wishful thinking..

Anyway the 2008 Blu-Ray will do me just fine, thankfully we Predator fans aren't limited to the UHE as the only Blu-Ray release...
