The very first Mortal Kombat is the game that really got me into gaming. Sure I played games before that, but I didn't really start getting into it until MK came around. And it's the only game I ever played in the Arcade enough to beat there.

My friends and I did a lot of hanging out and playing fighting games. You lose you pass the controller to the next guy on the couch. you win you keep playing until you lose.

I played online with the Dreamcast and had fun with it. But then I got an Xbox and never played online with that. And have not since. I gave up gaming for a while, skipped a couple generations of consoles.

Now, I've taken up the fun again, and am set on getting a PS4. But to be honest, I don't even care about online play, or even connecting the machine to the internet at all. I'm perfectly content to play single player offline mode.

However, since one of the games I really want to play is online only, (Destiny) I'll probably give it a go. And I'm sure since I get connected for that I'll play some of my other games online a bit too. Particularly DriveClub.

But yeah, I could easily do without it. I'm having fun playing my old games offline right now, actually. Just looking forward to getting some great new more advanced games. Been looking into Assassins Creed: Black Flag. That looks like it could be a really fun adventure game. I'm stoked to check it out.

"Explore uncharted islands all harboring mysteries of their own." That line gets me. Tickles my adventure bone.

Sorry about the ramble. Getting sleepy. Didn't sleep much last night.

I don't miss how gaming used to be, all that has happened is I have got more. With that being said I mostly play on pc and how you play and how that has changed on pc is very different to consoles.

I grew up with the NES, so I miss the relative simplicity of gaming. It seemed like it was more fun to play those classic games. I still play my PS3 occasionally, but I'm not into gaming like I used to be.

Yeah.. I got my first PS back in 1995 Oh man I played the crap out of it, it was no BS just gaming! I still game but not as much as I used to due to work but it seems games now have you do a bunch of work for only little rewards and ends up making you lose interest.

For those of you who MISS the way gaming used to be, I got a game with your name on it and it can be had for $12.99 and it contains two other games!

Its called Jak II. Its part of the Jak and Daxter Collection.

Its oldschool in every way.

Be prepared for the following old school pleasures!

1. Ridiculously LONG checkpoints. If you die be prepared to go back to beginning OVER AND OVER AND ****ing OVER.
But thats OK, because its THE WAY GAMING USED TO BE.

2. A bad camera- Be prepared to deal with awkward camera angles when you have multiple bad guys attacking you or when you have to make a difficult jump. Works GREAT with pleasure #1.
But thats OK, because its THE WAY GAMING USED TO BE.

3. A gun with piss poor aiming. If you want challenging and old school in this game has it for you with these guns you have to be still to aim properly, but you also have to be mobile because enemies shoot at you continuously. Who wants JUST tough enemies when the controller can be a bigger one?!
But thats OK, because its THE WAY GAMING USED TO BE.

4. Unresponsive controls. Go back to 1. Be prepared to fall into the abyss and have to start back at the beginning after the game fails to register that you did a double jump OR the camera is in an awkward position that makes it impossible for you to see how far you need to jump.
But thats OK, because its THE WAY GAMING USED TO BE.

5. Vehicle controls. You will be asked to go and kill 5 bad guys on a bike. Be prepared to drive a vehicle that is hard to control and combine it 1-4.
But thats OK, because its THE WAY GAMING USED TO BE.

All kidding aside I would love for anyone to explain to me how they missed that kind of crap in games. Its one thing to be a tough game, its another thing to be STUPID hard, tedious and aggravating beyond belief.

^ Games that involve shooting and use a controller always have piss poor aiming. But some are worse then others.

Most people just let nostalgia get the better of them. I remember hearing the same thing 10 years ago and so on, and does anyone really think games like pong are better then games like Bioshock?

This sums it up quite nicely. But I have a hard time TRULY believing that anyone would find those old school mechanics to be fun.

People complain about games hand holding the gamer. Well old games didn't NEED to handhold the gamer because games were about going from LEFT to RIGHT!

I'd be more impressed, if they were 5.5 inch floppy disks.

I miss the simplicity of older games and appreciate it when games like those come out these days.
Too many games are too complicated and some overly complicated. It's as if there's a rule to include rpg elements and movie quality storylines just to be considered a deep experience.
I don't want to think that much on everything. Sometimes, just a fun pick up and play experience is what I'm looking for.

The little point and click games of the early and late 80s were fun, but I think when the PS2 and X Box systems came out was when I really got into playing games. Games like the first Halo and Silent Hill 1 and 2 were incredible.

The heart of gaming for me were the SNES days. There were so many fun JRPGS like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, Secret of Mana, etc etc. Definitely gotta throw in the Goldeneye and WCW vs NWO gaming sessions with your friends. Thats when games had so much charm now even my favorite developers are sleeping on putting on original games but bank crappy spinoffs of popular franchises.

We have way to many damn shooters, its not even funny. Thats where the money is but man...

The next gen games have me yawning. Everyone is in a frenzy to get the latest and greatest and I still sitting here saying," where are the games?"

I was never a huge gamer but there are things that I do miss. I think much like movies, the game companies have the idea that as long as it looks good the rest doesn't matter. I have read a number of reviews for games where people talk about how good it looked but they were able to finish it in no time. I miss the story aspect of it. You didn't mind that the graphics were lacking because it had a good story to it to make up for it. There seem to be a lot where either the story is lacking or it is so overdone that you get sick of it part way through.

I've been playing video games for over 30 years. Back in the "good ol' days" there were good and bad video games, just like today.

The one thing I really do miss about those days is being able to insert a game, turn on your console, and start playing immediately.

That's so much better than insert game, sync trophies, check for downloadable content, show publisher splash screen, show developer splash screen, show copyright holder splash screen, show title splash screen, hit start, select game save, hit start again, wait while game loads, then start playing.
