Also the situation is not looking up for 3D movies. Disney and the industry doesn't seem to push for it as much these days - at least in the west. TLM must be the most pathetic effort to sell a 3D conversion ever. I don't see how they'd spend some extra millions to convert SB.
Well if they are willing to do the same with Mermaid, which, while I love that movie, but it's not exactly the greatest movie visually, not that it's bad but it's just nothing I would want to see in 3D.

Why not restore a movie that is much more visually stunning.

But you have a point.......I'm kinda 50-50 on it but I just hope they know what they are doing. Personally I don't really care THAT much. I'm just glad I get to see one of my Favs on Blu Ray again.

The only point of this release (besides the Maleficent cross promotion) is to give people who didn't buy the first release a chance to have it, otherwise it will have a horrid vertical logo, it will have one BD disc only (with no artwork of course) and tons of extras missing from the previews relese, which will always remain as best Disney Bluray of all time.

I'd say Beauty and the Beast is just as good.

Snow White is better than both of them.

You can still find it for a decent price now. The older edition will probably be better than what will be released in 2014.

You guys think this is the diamond edition early pre-order, with a year early date or a dtypo?

Disney's going to have quite a task if they want the Diamond slipcover to stand equal to the Platinum. IMO, it's the most beautiful of all of the Disney Classics slips:

I love how, in person, there are so many different points that reflect light. It's hypnotizing!

I got lucky and found it second hand on Amazon last year for $12. Came with everything as well (though I've given the "DVD packet" to a friend.)

It's this one.

I chatted with customer service and after a few minutes they gave me a name that isn't listed on there. Matthew Bourne.

Default Re: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Fall 2014

This thread has inspired me to join the forum and the discussion.

While far from being the worst effort from Disney on Blu-Ray, I'd argue that Sleeping Beauty is certainly not perfect. In particular there are some glaring anomalies from the restoration/post-processing work done, particularly evident in this screenshot, @ 10:13:

For comparison, here is the same frame from the 2003 DVD, above from the widescreen transfer and below from the 4:3 transfer, which devotes more resolution to the area of interest:

For me, the edges are distracting at many points throughout the movie, but in this shot everything just really falls apart. If they fixed this and did not cause any new problems I'd see an incentive to upgrade it. However I don't expect them to because they approach these titles as moving outlines to be repainted and composited rather than works to be respected and accurately transferred from film to video.

The platinum slip is indeed gorgeous, I'm guessing the new one will have a vertical logo and a huge banner saying "Featuring a brand new restoration from the guys that restored 'The Sword in the Stone'"

Not to be confused with Jason Damon.

Why does everyone hate the vertical title? I actually think it looks better, something different.

It's not only beautiful but it's Disney's first and only gate fold slipcover.

Let me ask you this. Why does the title have to be vertical when the image of the cover art is horizontal?? Does not make any sense.
