Why not restore a movie that is much more visually stunning. But you have a point.......I'm kinda 50-50 on it but I just hope they know what they are doing. Personally I don't really care THAT much. I'm just glad I get to see one of my Favs on Blu Ray again. |

The only point of this release (besides the Maleficent cross promotion) is to give people who didn't buy the first release a chance to have it, otherwise it will have a horrid vertical logo, it will have one BD disc only (with no artwork of course) and tons of extras missing from the previews relese, which will always remain as best Disney Bluray of all time.

Disney's going to have quite a task if they want the Diamond slipcover to stand equal to the Platinum. IMO, it's the most beautiful of all of the Disney Classics slips:

This thread has inspired me to join the forum and the discussion.
While far from being the worst effort from Disney on Blu-Ray, I'd argue that Sleeping Beauty is certainly not perfect. In particular there are some glaring anomalies from the restoration/post-processing work done, particularly evident in this screenshot, @ 10:13: ![]() For comparison, here is the same frame from the 2003 DVD, above from the widescreen transfer and below from the 4:3 transfer, which devotes more resolution to the area of interest: ![]() ![]() For me, the edges are distracting at many points throughout the movie, but in this shot everything just really falls apart. If they fixed this and did not cause any new problems I'd see an incentive to upgrade it. However I don't expect them to because they approach these titles as moving outlines to be repainted and composited rather than works to be respected and accurately transferred from film to video. |
