I wish HongKongLegends were still around in the UK. They would have shown Jackie's work the love it deserves.

Looks like I'm not going to be replacing any of my JC dvd collection anytime soon.

I really love my SITES and DM on Japanese blu ray with true HD. But, its not perfect. Nor, are there English subs or dub.

even in China his films only get mediocre releases (the above mentioned titles no longer exist anywhere). The only decent releases have been in japan but of course all without any subs and super expensive.
I recently bought the un-cut version of First Strike for only $15 which I thought was fair. It's only DVD but considering the shoddy treatment Jackie's other movies have had on BR....

The funny thing is, I thought the shorter, international release of the movie was actually better, lol!

I really wanted Shout Factory to go all the way with his fims, but they dropped the ball.

I had heard such glowing remarks about Shout Factory on this site, it seemed like a company with a true passion for films. After releasing the old upscaled K&R transfers, they merely shrugged it off and said they just released whatever Fortune Star provided them. In my opinion Jackie's films have significant historic cinema value and they squandered a great opportunity. And yes, I purchased them anyway. Why? Because I want to support the market for Jackie's films so someday someone will do them justice. I used to buy crappy VHS versions until better quality versions were eventually released and so on with DVD. I would've definitely paid Nightbreed LE money to Shout for a fully restored HD Police Story 1 & 2!

They normally release much better quality product than this. In a way I'm kind of happy so many of Jackie's Blu-ray movies have looked like crap. Saves me from upgrading everything a third time.

You guys know that Fortune Star own the rights to these films and if they are supplying upscales instead of true HD then what can anyone do about it? The only option would have been to find a print from 35mm that they could have scanned and cleaned up; ala the Japanese print. But, where are these prints of these films and how much does it cost to scan and repair? But, everyone should know Shout`s intentions when it was announced that the JC movies were going to be a 2-for-1 deal. Nothing will change until FS are out of the picture regarding the Golden Harvest back catalog. I doubt that JC himself could convince FS to remaster everything in true HD. Of course, JC deserves better but nothing will get done unless he puts his foot down, if he can. He probably does not even care since the mentality seems to be that those films are old hat. The only people that really care are the people that have no say so, and, that is us, the fans. I think at this point the whole issue is

1. Not release them then. When I receive product in my restaurant, I check the contents carefully for quality. If it does not meet my standards of high quality, I refuse receipt instead of selling it to my guests at a lower price and injuring my brand.

2. Cost is an issue Shout was unwilling to invest in? Again, why bother then? It just made them look as if out to make a quick buck.

3. I think everyone did know their intentions at that point and that hurt their image as a company that focused on quality releases.

I don't think the issue is a dead horse, if the fans don't continue to express their dissatisfaction we'll never see those eventual HQ releases. Heck, even if we don't purchase the mediocre stuff it just looks like a lack of interest in the genre from a sales perspective.

The problem is people buy them anyway and say "well its better than my DVD version". So if Fortune Star see sales they will continue to supply sub standard up-scaled rubbish.
I refuse to buy any of the Jackie Chan HK Blu rays because 99% are up-scales and have awful remixed soundtracks with added sound fx.

Police Story
Drunken Master 2
Police Story 2
Police Story 3
Project A/Project A II
Rumble in the Bronx
Crime Story
Heart of Dragon
Drunken Master
Dragons Forever
Young Master

All we want is to see these classic films treated with respect and released with real HD transfers and possibly extra features.

I agree. I am not sure why Shout Factory accepted these masters from Fortune Star. If I owned the rights then I would be using the original film elements if they are even still available to be used. No idea what shape they are in. If you believe Shout`s version of what happened regarding the BL box set that they put out then they got burned by FS. FS sent them the non HD master when everyone else had it. If that is what really happened then that speaks volumes. Of course, if Shout knew all along then that speaks volumes as well.

I might disagree with you on one issue. The issue is how much FS really cares. It does cost money to remaster films. No idea how much profit they made off of JC and Bruce. It seems that mostly BL got the true HD treatment. How many letters or non-purchases will it take to make FS see the light? If you don't buy it then they think it is not selling. Why remaster then? If you do purchase the crappy version then they think that everything is ok. Why re-invest in a product that is making them a profit?

The main reason why I think it is an dead issue is because nothing is going to change until someone cares enough to do something about it. Is someone going to send FS a check to cover the remastering costs or buy out the catalog? Or, get a world-wide petition with 100,000 signatures (or whatever it will take) demanding the remaster of the catalog? Or, is someone going to throw themselves in front of the Weinsteins and beg them to give us uncut HD copies of what they might have in the vaults of the movies they raped for US release?

I certainly do not have the answer. I would certainly re-purchase the JC films if they were provided in true HD, uncut with the original soundtracks. But, honestly, I do not think that that is going to happen. Maybe I am too negative but I have been collecting these films since the early 90`s and they never really seem to get the decent treatment that they deserve. Hong Kong Legends gave it the best shot overall.

That shouldn't even count, lol. Jackie has been in some of the worst, (and best), movies I have ever seen, but this is just an abomination.
