Lionsgate’s much delayed $100M YA gamble Chaos Walking starring Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland is poised to lose money just like any big wide release coming out during the pandemic where 50% of all 5,8K U.S. and Canadian theaters are closed. Industry estimates show the movie with a $1.3M Friday and 3-day of $3.7M.

Thumbs up

I saw this at a Dolby Cinema yesterday and really enjoyed it. I went in completely blind never having seen the trailer, nor did I read the premise. I just knew Holland and Ridley were in it.

It's a really cool action adventure film. I like the world it's set in and "The Noise" aspect is done really well. That's one of the best things about the movie. It's got a great cast with Mads Mikkelsen, David Oyelowo, and Cynthia Enviro in supporting roles. It definitely feels like it's Tom Holland's movie. His character is really young and somewhat insecure, but he proves himself to be a badass as the film progresses. Lots of humor and heartfelt moments as well.

All in all it's a fun popcorn movie. I don't know why it's getting so much negativity. I know it was adapted from a series of books and I'm not sure if this movie just covers the first book or all of them, but I definitely wouldn't mind a sequel to see more of the world as well as the characters. I'm not naive though and know it probably won't get one.

I highly recommend it. I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars. I might not like it as much on a rewatch, but I'm definitely looking forward to picking up the Blu-ray when it's released. I may even go for a second viewing in IMAX.

It was just okay. I understand the bad reviews. It's only 1 hour and 40 minutes before credits, but feels sluggish and much longer.

I'd only recommend it if you were a Tom Holland fan. You get to see his amazing arms for the first half, he gets shirtless for one scene, and he even skinny dips revealing the top half of his butt.

Where did the $100M+ budget go? The film is just the two young leads running through the woods trying to escape men on horses.

It felt like a low budget, super sized TV pilot. And the "noise" was a bit too much at times. Those who get headaches easily, beware.

While I gave them props for trying something new, it was pretty annoying to watch a story with that happening over almost all the actors.

Hearing Holland say 'I am Todd Hewitt' over a hundred times gave me nightmares.

2/6 for me. Critics were right, this was bland overall.

Saw this Saturday in a Dolby Cinema. It wasn't great or deep, and definitely didn't realize its full potential, but it was enjoyable enough. Better than average.

I saw it last night. Both my wife and I thought it was pretty good.

Thinking of watching this on Saturday. Will be the first time in a theater since Onwards. Hows Mads in the film?

Someone told me that
[Show spoiler]his character isn't that big of a part and that he dies in the end by pushing pushed into a pit?
I don't mind spoilers, so if someone could confirm.

He has a major role
[Show spoiler]though yes to the pit
. I’m thinking the most screentime after Holland and Ridley

The movie is basically 2 hours of Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley running through the woods and the rest of the cast chasing them on horseback.

Hahahahah!

As a gamer, I have a slightly different appreciation of this film because of its predictable nature: it's, in essence, an hours-long fetch quest, the bane of many a gamer from many a game.

In fact, my buddy and I were the only ones in the theater and so were able to quietly discuss how much like a video game the entire film was, right down to the arrival at each new location. We joked that the fort town had a minimum of 50 collectibles, lol.

Visual effects were nice, sound design was better. Acting wasn't anything extraordinary but it certainly didn't need to be, either. Concept was cool, I thought, and the repetitive nature of the thoughts really sold the "chaos" aspect of it, especially when the thoughts started piling on top of each other.

The Spackle were not really developed, and the villain thread of the plot was pretty blah.

Still, I'll end up buying this, and you get free Holland butt if that's your thang.

I like how Ridley's costume for the majority of the film seemed to be a low-key homage to Leeloo from The Fifth Element!

A solid 3 stars, I reckon, another surprisingly enjoyable flick alongside The New Mutants, which I also found deceptively better than its production and release woes made it out to be.

Will be available to rent on digital this Friday.

Looks like Lionsgate said F it after it flopped.

This had to have had a full-on rewrite. I can’t find any of Charlie Kaufman’s dna in this.

That’s a four week full theatrical window, more than most films get now. And I hate being too hard on any box office performance now, as it’s obviously extraordinary circumstances and I appreciate the films which are deciding to release during this, it’s uncharted water for studios and exhibitors.

The thread title (like many on here) is out of date. Kaufman isn’t credited on the final film and it went through other writers between him and the finished product.

I’ve read interviews that said a few of his lines made it in. Highly doubt that.
